I have a family of Anna’s that adopted me last year. They’re so hilarious. I highly suggest zinnias, tithonia and of course a hummingbird feeder. The hummers prefer flower nectar during the day but in the morning they really appreciate the feeder before flower nectar is warm enough to be easily drinkable. :)

I find that in Florida Zone 9A, my local hummingbirds like basil flowers. I intermix some of my basil with other plants and let them flower. That way, I get seed for the next year, along with bees, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. The best part is basil flowers for a long time in my garden - often March through November. Easy and inexpensive.

A shout out from Aurora, Oregon. Zone 8b on the 45th parallel. We have hummers year around. I am good friends with them and they keep me company in the garden. I read that they eat pitch in the winter and have to increase their bug eating for mating season for good strong egg shells. I really try to keep flowers year around as well as the feeders. Now the fuchsia is still in bloom because we are having unusually warm weather in the 80"s right now but the Pansy, Camelia, Fragrant sweet Box and heather are some of the most valuable food for them through the winter months. The Christmas Camelia blooms November through January. I have 4 other Camelia's that bloom until May. They are wild about the Fragrant Sweet Box that blooms January to March. The heather hedge is the most impressive because it blooms from December to June. I have many spring and summer hummer attractors such as butterfly bush and bee balm but the first 4 plants I named get my hummers through the winter with plenty of flower power. Do keep in mind that if you have cats you want to plant the taller plants to keep the cats from killing the hummers. PS I've always been in awe at all the beautiful birds that don't live in my area that I lost sight of how fortunate I am to have the many fascinating birds that go through my yard daily (and squirrels)The hummers have always been the most special to me. I remember watching my great grandma filling their feeders while they flew around her head screaming at her to hurry up. They are a ferocious bird for their size.

If you have any areas that stay damp to wet they love tobacco flowers and a bonus is the tobacco will get attacked by aphids before anything else and about 3 days later you will have an invasion of lady bugs. I also live in mid Michigan and plant tobacco every year on the corners of each garden as sacrificial plants for insects so I don't have to use insecticides.

Most popular shrubs with hummingbirds in my garden are Autumn Sage (Salvia greggii), Scarlet Sage (Salvia coccinea) and Baby Sage (Salvia microphylla). All 3 are native to SW US and very hardy and easy to grow. If you get Honeysuckle, make sure its a native species like Lonicera sempervirens, and not Lonicera japonica, which is toxic and considered invasive. Cape Honeysuckle (Tecomaria capensis) is a non-invasive exotic that is very well liked and does well in SW US.

It would be better if you called the plants by name people understand.

That would create a lot more confusion for people trying to look up or find the plants at a nursery (many plants are known by completely different names depending on where you live). Using the proper names is the best and most consistent way.

@@andreafragapane3141 - 100%. Love it when ppl use the scientific names because then I can look it up myself. Way more accurate that way.
