This species will likely do better in a terrarium with soil that has a high clay content and a lot of plants like in the wild so they can dig their own nest. Harpegnathos have a complex nest design that’s very unlike this artificial nest. A natural environment will definitely make it a lot more interesting to observe and document the ants and even see how many of the behaviors a captive colony shows when they’re lacking a lot of their natural experience (Flooding, predators, etc.)
I imagined they would i may remove the dairy cows, so far the Harps are leaving them alone, i was hoping their size would keep them safe for a bit, need to add in some springtails and worms before i can rescue the dairy cows!
The dwarf whites are fossorial too and so they are a more sub terranean species 😊 they will turn over and airate the sub too 😁 I'm so glad you are happy with the new colony man and thank you so much for the links man. The fish are Hollings brand sprats get them in he gourmet treat section of dog treats
Yeah i wanted them as i knew they had a good chance of hiding from the Venators! Being partially subterranean, your channel is so under rated! More people need to jump over and sub!! Nearly at 100!!
Cool video! Congrats on ur new colony! Hope they do well for you! I really liked to hear about the ethical feeding, especially with this species, when people know they are hunters they assume they are capable of taking down anything, which isn't the case. Really want to see more updates in near future and once again good luck! Cheers! 🍻
Thanks bud! Loved your latest piece on the Harps, your channel is one of my favourites! This certainly is the best species to spread the word of ethical live feeding, best practices and standards 👌🏻
Amazing setup mate. #MossWars haha!! Good job on explaining live feeding also. Some people don’t realise that some ants need to actively hunt to stay healthy and claim their prize. It’s all about doing this the right way, good job.
Hahaha #mosswars i need to spread this tag 🤣🤣🤣🤣 thanks bud i thought they would be the perfect species to show the reality of what is acceptable and what isn't, many people seem confused about the message!
Love this video and this species I am waiting for my new Odontoponera transversa queen to arrive and plan on doing everything in my power to make it a success .
it didn't go well . Think i made it too humid . Was nice to keep her for the weeks though . Do you still have this species ? I have bought some predator mites and some springtails for a natural dubia roach Set up .
Great video mate😁 It's really nice to hear you explain the ethical live feeding and the unethical live feeding👍 I wish you luck with your new ant species😁🐜
Stratiolaelaps scimitus (Hypoaspis miles) they are a predatory mite that consumes the larvae and brood of phoretic mites, phoretic mites feed on the blood of insects, they can kill off a colony pretty quickly
Hey I don’t know if ur alright heard something about a hospital I can delete this comment if you don’t want anyone to know. But I just really wanna congratulate you with 1k subscribers you have gone such a way and ur doing amazing I hope u will upload again soon thx for all the wonderful videos. This is ur most reason video and I didn’t know were to put this comment so I just ended up putting it here be well bud
Hey thanks bud all is ok just a broken tooth, no further damage i had a suspected fractured jaw, perks of work, i was outnumbered but not out gunned 🤣🤣 I am trying to do a video before i go away again, unfortunately the job ending with the family has thrown me back into chaos with no stability, just back on the road working away all the time! I get a couple days at home a month now 😔😔😔 appreciate the support mate your a true legend!!
You would have to see the facebook post from the link in the description, moss takes years to grow, removing it from the wild can cause a big impact on the local eco system, they are so cool! Ive barely seen them since they went in, just a couple glimpses here and there! Thanks bud!
It depends on the nest Wakooshi does really good nests for Harps, but if its not possible to get a purpose built nest, i find they prefer a natural set up with a cocofibre and clay dirt mix (apologies for my slow reply)
Very nice. Love this species.
Thanks bud, they are amazing!
The set up looks frigging cool
Thanks bud! 😁
Amazing video thanks for the inspiration. I will make s similar setup

Great video, just FYI these ants are very territorial and will likely hunt down most if not all of the clean up crew in there with them.

How is this set up working now ?
Hi. What is the '10k' culture you mention will tackle the issue of mites?

Haw long will thay be able to live in thies sizes
This species doesnt have large colonies, they will be happy in this size from start to finish
@@AntsTheColonialist amazing thanks
Not harvest moss? Lol? Anyway amazing species, definitely a dream for the future. Also cool build.

@@AntsTheColonialist i never knew this😅 rip all the moss I harvested so far...
Nice tattoo
They are polygynous! There are multiple colonies on yoitube thriving with multiple queens
Would a natural setup like this be better than an artificial setup?
