Hi Liam, my partner and I perform Harvest Moon as part of our set for open mics and occasional paid gigs. We've been doing a vocal harmony over the harmonica break, as neither of us play harmonica But having purchased a good quality G harmonica and watched your video, I'm pretty sure I can use the harmonica for the solo at last, thank you! I love the clarity, repetition, the way you build it up and go over and over, then get up to full speed and, of course, having the tab to follow along is so helpful too! A brilliant teacher. I have subscribed and will definitely be doing more, thanks to you! ❤
First of all, get the song right, im listening to this thinkin to myself "sound nothing like heart of gold" then looked at the title again. Im not a smart man but i do know what love is jenny,
liam! do the intro to "take the long way home" by supertramp pleeaasse. I know I commented on another video saying the same thing haha but I would love to learn it and you're the best teacher!
While this solo can certainly be played on a G harp, I have a feeling Neil may have played it on a Lee Oskar Melody Maker in D (an unusual but still widely available harp). On the Melody Maker, the notes in this solo (including the bends) are very easily accessible. You just have to get used to the fact that the major key (D) is in 2nd position, not 1st. I found that playing this on a G harp made it sound too bluesy. It sounds completely natural on the Melody Maker.
Thanks for the video definatly a good starting place to learning this part of harvest moon could use a little tightening up but aside from that amazing job 🎉
Love your lessons. A big help but I don't think you play the last line quite like Neil. He combines the 6/7 draw on the way down versus playing them separately. Not sure if he really intended that but don't think he would keep a bad take.
Hi Patrick - way ahead of you: ua-cam.com/video/63ZIiXJsahg/v-deo.html. If you're ever unsure, you can search my UA-cam channel or my website where I put my lessons in order of level and genre. Cheers. Liam
I have an A harp. I also have a Chrometta 8 which I think is a C So I guess I'll get a G--unless the chromatic magically turns into a G when I push the button. Does it?
Could you please do a video for the acoustic version of White Line from Neil Young’s Homegrown album? I’ve just started learning the harmonica and both songs I’ve learned have been from your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
Hi there thanks for a wonderful lesson, i own a harmonica but not very good at playing it this is a Brilliant song please can you tell me do i have to by different harmonicas for different Songs or is there one that you can Buy to Cover most Tunes Many Thanks Ian
hey, i dont know if you've done it, but could you do lonesome campfires tutorial? its a pretty popular beginner song, and ive found the tabs, but your video format is so much better.
Thanks Liam, just come across this song and thought the harp was great, is it played in G by Neil Young? Tried it in G plaing along sounds a little different, Thanks again
+Paulene Crossley Hi Paulene, yes it should be on a G. I suppose he could have done live versions in different keys. I have 'cleaned up' the tab a little as his playing is a bit looser and therefore harder to tab out, so perhaps it just sounds cleaner when you play it? Thanks for watching :) Liam
Many thanks for this Liam. I have been struggling to bend notes but was able to do it perfectly using this video. It sounds great! It helps to have a favourite song and a good teacher! One question - the original song on the guitar is in D. But this is in G. How do we reconcile the two? Can you provide the tablature for D?
Hi David, you're welcome for the lesson. The song is in D but he played it on a G harmonica, so there is no reconciliation necessary - you can play along to the original on your G harp. This is called playing in 2nd position. See this for a bit more info: ua-cam.com/video/DXGjDG95M1U/v-deo.html
Hi Liam, Thanks for all lessons...I have a question...I play Harvest Moon complete in "A" the solo in "G" with the video..Sounds good is "A" right? I tried them all...
Hi John, I'm not sure I understand your question, but if you play the song in A then you need a D harmonica to play this tab along to your guitar playing. I hope this answers your question! Cheers. Liam

Hi Ian, glad you liked the lesson! It all depends on the key of the song, most harp players have a case with lots of different keys.
Getting one today♥️
