Glad it was helpful! Let me know if there are any other Hobie or sailing related things you would like to see.
That is a good trick to mix the duratech in for the air cure. Normally you can't spray gelcoat on the outside like that on a whole boat. Did you weigh the boat before and after? Also most ppl take the boat apart to redo the hulls. Maybe yours is glued together? The non skid was there for a reason, i would hate to walk out on those bows now, but it sure looks nice.
The duratec was definitely the play here as I did not even need to sand after spraying since I don't care about having a perfect mirror gloss. I did not weight the boat. I'm sure it is heavier by 40-60 pounds on the high side between the epoxy repairs. gelcoat, and metallic paint.
I probably spent 5-6 hours trying to take my boat apart. I tried everything, heat, PB blaster, a bottle jack, a deadblow, all of them combined. In the end, I was not able to get it apart, so that is why I did all the work with it together. I would definitely recommend taking it apart if possible.
I agree with the non-skid region. With the age of the boat, no one should be stepping on the front anyways or it would cause more delamns, so I decided it was best to remove it to ensure I could properly surface prep the area not only for the injections, but also to ensure the gel coat does not disbond.
I appreciate all the feedback and questions. It sure was a lot of work, but it has been holding up fantastic since I finished everything.
the go grr overheat - the downside of go pro , good info though and it looks sweet
Yes, it has been a struggle for the entire process. I put heat sinks on it and everything. Helped a little but not much.
Never seen anyone use a spray gun like a paint brush 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Most people paint in an arc motion with the rotation point at the elbow. The proper way to maintain consistent thickness is to maintain a constant distance from your work part, which is why it might look a little odd at first.
