  • Hi everyone 🙋🏽‍♀️
    In today’s video we’re trying out the gelx overlay method. I was pleasantly surprised by this technique, the set came out amazing. Do let me know in the comments which nail art is your favourite.
    I’m going to try and link the products I used down below.
    Hope you’re having a good one💖

    If you put the nail tip closer to the cuticle and only leave a tiny gap you don't actually have to build an Apex so you can just put a thin layer of builder gel or rubber base coat to seal the gap which makes the overlay method a whole lot faster. This is how korean nail techs who created the method do it.

      Not Korean, Vietnamese. Vietnamese entrepreneurs revolutionized the nail industry and many of the techniques that are till used til this day.
      I know the history because I worked with them yrs ago for over 10 yrs starting at 14.

      No she doesn’t want to do that, that’s not a good technique. The way she did it is best for the nail bed.

      However, I do find if you do that there is no integrity in the nail strength. This is fine for a short term or single event set. However, if you intend to wear the set for a longer period, you need to apply a gel overlay for strength. Otherwise you risk damaging the natural nail through flexion.

    I was always taught to start with the pinkie finger first because we use our thumbs as tools to apply pressure and hold the tips in place. The thumb nail should always be done last. Your nails turned out great!

      Totally agree but because the thumb is the bigger finger it makes it easier to film in detail for my audience. TYSM💖🙂✨

    I absolutely love this method too! It's been a game changer. I stick with the Apres brand though. I've tried several other full cover soft gel tips but none of them were as flexible as Apres and for me unless it's extremely flexible it causes problems with my natural nails and how they grow in. You have beautiful natural nails by the way. If I had your nails I'd slap some rubber base gel on them and grow them out. Yours look very nice naturally too.

      I’ve honestly tried out a lot of gelx dupes and I think it’s safe to say they suck. They’re no apex which leads to the gel glue oozing out which annoys me so much. I’ve decided to purchase the O.G Alpres gel x tips, they are in my Amazon cart and I can’t wait to try them out.
      Thank you for the advice on the fluffy effect, I’ll try invest in some velvet powder. Didn’t think that I could develop an allergy by sprinkling polymer on my skin💖🙂💐

    is this as strong as acrylic nails, or is it more like poly gel nails? in the sense that with acrylic nails you can use nail polish remover/acetone to change the color without the nail melting but with poly gel the nail melts with acetone or poly gel also has to be change weekly

    • @nectanails
      @nectanails  6 місяців тому +1

      It’s as strong as acrylic nails. As far as I know polygel shouldn’t melt away with acetone use, you have to file it off the nail. Also polygel lasts for up to 3weeks, you shouldn’t change it weekly🙂💖

    How long do they last ?

  • @LaRueLady
    @LaRueLady 7 місяців тому

    I have a question, how should the nail look like underneath the nail extensions? Should the gel squeeze up right to where your nail ends or should it spill over if that makes sense? Mine are getting better as I’m learning but I have yet to find someone explain the underside?

    • @nectanails
      @nectanails  7 місяців тому +1

      That’s such a great question…the gel shouldn’t spill over at all and one of the main reasons is that if the gel cures onto the skin that’s under the nail, it could cause a allergic reaction/contact dermatitis. I’m glad to hear that you’re getting better at it💪🏾💖😊💐

    This stuff is great for at home DIY'ers, but its starting to invade salons. If im paying salon prices i want full coverage gel or acrylic. Im ok with a tip, but honestly, its just extra crap on ur nail, and often creates weak points. Its starting to bother me that techs have become lazy and resorting to this instead of putting in the work of sculpting a nail.

    • @nectanails
      @nectanails  6 місяців тому +4

      I will say that I’ve noticed that more and more nails techs are transitioning to gel extensions. But the advantage is that they spend less time around strong odours, nail dust and shaping the nail🤷🏽‍♀️💖

    • @RyanFox85
      @RyanFox85 6 місяців тому +2
