1972. How we all love to be back in time to that year. Lot's and lots of things happened in '72: Nixon's re-election and the start of Watergate, the Munich Summer Olympics Massacre, Vietnam War, "The Godfather", the Miami Dolphins perfect season begins, "All in the Family" remains the #1 sitcom (w/ new shows debuting on CBS that fall, which includes Maude, M*A*S*H, The Waltons, and The Bob Newhart Show), NBC's Sunday Mystery Movies (Columbo, McCloud, and McMillan & Wife) returns for a second season with the Wednesday version debuting, etc.
When i was a little kid , we had that GE washer and dryer combo . They lasted about 20 or 25 years. Won't find a home appliance that will last that long anymore.
As time-sensitive as they might seem now, the prizes were actually well made and manufactured in the United States. What a rare privilege. The people were calm and well-behaved. This is what I miss. :)
I was only 9 years old when this episode was recorded. I still can't get over how the contestants win their games and the showcase, and still less than $4300 worth of prizes. Of course it was different back then. Still a great game show.
Rare alcohol reference with the Cocktail Mix in the grocery game (with the loopy contestant). I don't think I've seen anything in any grocery game that even refers to booze besides this. And I've watched hundreds and hundreds of episodes. They've had bars and stuff, but no mentions to booze besides this.
The second pricing game was first known as "The Price is Right" supemarket. Subsequently, it became "Grocery Game". Originally contestants had to purchase within $6.75-$7.00 to win. Subsequently, it was changed to between $20-$21.
People dressed more formally then (despite the questionable fashions of the 70's). People were also MUCH thinner, then. The audience was older than it is today. No silly T-shirts. No stupid, overweight screaming African-Americans on stage. No goofy college-aged contestants. No "I-wanna-give-a-shout-out to my mother, my father, my sister, my dog, my canary" nonsense during the spinning of the wheel segments, and other embarrassingly bad behaviour that is the norm on today's TPIR. The last 44 years have not been too kind for the newer, Drew Carey, modern game-show contestants. Just an observation; not a judgment whatsoever.
Not really....society has taste in crap today....because society has already sunk deep into the sewer. Drew is an incredibly lousy host....the audience is obnoxious....and the contestants act like obnoxious douchebags today.....and the production people encourage it. Hell I find myself rooting against the contestants today, even if they are a true, yet sad, reflection of today's society.
I miss those days so much if only I could go back and know what I know now take me back please!!! those were the days right there

Bob will always be the best host

Studio looked dark and homey. Love the 70s

Ken being an Engineer is a very good smart player ;) Loved TPIR old shows, the 70's were the BEST ;) peace & love
It actually aired on November 29, 1972
wow...I was 3 months and 7 days old when this was aired...i feel so old watching this!
It's worse for me. I was seven years old then. Do the math. lol
I love the music bumpers too.. I like the one when the contestant gets up on stage
"It's a range!" Seven people: "Ohhhhhhh." (silence)
I have two vintage "The Price Is Right"
Board Games a DVD game and two Wii
Games that I have fun playing
This episode was recorded during the I.B.E.W. technician's strike.
I'm watching gsn price is right a lot from now on and put it back on both gsn and buzzr tv before summers over

December 8, 1972 fell on a Friday!
This show aired on my birthday.
A 73 Chevy Vega. What a world. :)
This episode should have re-aired on CBS
That Vega was as about as bare bones as an exhibit at the Museum of Natural History.
I think that Glastron boat is the most valuable item on this episode.
They should have used pharmaceuticals in Vivica's pricing game. She'd have nailed it!

Gosh, I love that second showcase music!!!!
12/8/1972,to be exact. It was exactly 8 years before former Beatle John Lennon's passing.
The contestants had so much more class back then; that dingy woman playing the grocery game was as off the wall as it got.
I hated 8 tracks. you had to listen to songs that you did not like to listen to the ones you did like
Ken Adams was Joey's "fake name" on Friends 😂
$350 frig
I was pricing one today for my kitchen remoldel... $2467
Vivica was high as a kite.
I think you are right.
6:24 I would be scared to death before the tag would be flipped I would be like COOOOOME OOOOON!!
Anitra"s hair is just huge.
Was $2,338 one of the cheapest cars they had ever offered?
Of course not. It would be $10000 for a standard model.
Your wife has new cookware. .... hehe
19:40; Was that the first time that happened on The New Price is Right?
Wonder if Ken's daughters play piano now
Never heard of the Sohmer Piano Company. Now I know why. Sold off in the mid-1980s. Today, the remnants absorbed into a Korean music company.

Is that the first time they both bid the same amounts in the showcase?
I've never seen 2 people make the same bid. Until I watched this episode today.
Broyhill...filling landfills all over America, Broyhill!!
If Drew was a bad host, he would not have been doing TPIR for 9 years already.
Not really....society has taste in crap today....because society has already sunk deep into the sewer. Drew is an incredibly lousy host....the audience is obnoxious....and the contestants act like obnoxious douchebags today.....and the production people encourage it. They offered a Swimming Pool in December?
1:56 like............DUH
Hopefully Buzzr TV will get TPIR on their schedule in the near future. Drew stinks as host-not crazy about his hosting style if you ask me!
I totally agree about drew that he stinks at it. It's just not his calling if you ask me.
+doug bell It's not about the host it's about the games, the models, the prizes.
Innocent TV.
all those prizes are worth nothing today (2016) seriously all those prizes are considered junk today!!!!!
THAT SHOW WAS IN 1982
11:18 it's Goldie Hawn haha
