  • We are on the water in Beaufort videoing our journey to retrieve a boat floater that we need to move from Lady's Island to St. Helena Island Beaufort SC. When I decide to abort our mission and try running from a storm, we end up getting caught in a terrible storm. #storm #boating #wildlife

    So thankful ya`ll are safe!!! We have been caught in popup summer storms on the Tennessee River in NW Alabama, with our family onboard, and it is terrifing! No matter how closely you watch the weather reports, in the summer, a storm can popup out of no where, and lightening on the water is down right dangerous!!! Please stay safe!!!

    Wow! Happy you guys got back safely! I've been out on a big lake with a 16 ft/25hp motor and it can really be scary when weather comes up. Some storms just pop up fast whether you've checked the weather report or not. ❤️

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Ginger! There were three or more storms around us that came out of nowhere. Once we saw the storms in the distance, we pulled the radar up on our phones to take a look. Too late, we couldn't outrun them. It was scary. I don't ever want to put Steph and I in danger, but I guess I did today. It was scary and all I could do is deal with the situation the best I could. Stay safe.

And for anyone who would say you're crazy for not checking the weather they just don't know anything about living in the Lowcountry God bless you and sister Stephanie I'm glad y'all are okay I can't wait to see the next video because I know it's going to be some good scenery from the Midlands of South Carolina brother we will be watching

Usually when we see a storm coming, we're able to outrun it but not this time. We were in a really bad situation there for 2 or 3 min. That was the part were no video would have been worth what we were going through. All I can say is, I was scared and praying. Stay safe and tell everyone we're ok.

    That was terrifying and glad you two are okay. My husband and I got caught in a storm on a large lake but on a bigger boat, like the one I usually see you using. The lightning and wind was so scary. When ended up being soaked and wind-blown, but okay. When we got back to the marina, we found straight line winds from the storm had toppled a tree and thrown a bunch of deck and dock equipment/furniture/coolers/trash into the cove. We spent a good hour helping clean up the water.

    We call those "Pop Up's" where I'm from. One minute it's a beautiful day, the next all heck breaks loose. I was in a tornado once, and it wasn't even supposed to rain that day. It can happen any where at any time. I'm relieved that you both made it back ok, and you're safe 🙏.

      Thank you! As you could see in the video I wasn't even trying to video the worst part of our experience. I was thinking we we're close to a water spot or tornado too. There's no video worth loosing our lives over. I saw at least 3 storms that popped up but I couldn't outrun them this time. It was very scary. I'm thankful we're ok too. Stay safe! Summer storms can be extremely dangerous. I always have backup plans for safe harbor at any point in the trip. Your mobile phone and doppler radar are your best tools on a small boat without radar. In my opinion you got lucky today and should have hunkered down and waited the storm out. Most people think that lightning is the biggest killer on the water with summer storms but it's actually straight line winds. They hit so fast and hard that there's no getting ready for them. They can flip much larger boats faster than u can put on a life vest. Be safe

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  2 роки тому

      You're right about all of that. Once we saw the storms pop up, we immediately started tracking there movement with our phone app NOAA Weather Radar. We really didn't have a direction to go on the water to avoid them. If I would've known we were going to get hit by it on the water, my actions would've been different. I would have ran to the dock back at Sam's Point and dealt with the storm there. We never know if we could go back and change things in life where we'd be now.

      Live and learn is what my Dad always said. We were in a 23 Parker one summer night after dark, coming back from a restaurant off the Chesapeake. Nothing in the forecast or on the marine radio indicated / forewarned us what was coming. We were under power, seas flat calm, running at about 20 knots less than a mile from the dock. We ran into the face of a straight line wind, fortunately it was head on. Lasted less than 10 seconds. At first I thought it was a motor issue because we almost came to a complete stop, the wind was so strong. No radar on the boat, and this was before cell phones. Found out the next day multiple capsized boats and several drownings from this anomaly. There was no thunder or lightening, weather service said it was a cold front that created the wind. Love your channel, stay safe.
