I never get so emotional listening to any other artists’ work. There’s just something special and pure in what Ólafur creates that touches even the darkest parts of our souls. Ólafur’s music has helped me a lot in dealing with depression and I can’t find words to express how grateful I am to him for letting us hear the purest form of music. One day I’ll get better but this piece of art will still hold a special place in my heart. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for sharing with us. I, too, was going through a hard time and still do actually. Olafur is the tiny light to my darkest thoughts. He opened up something in me that I never knew existed. He saves me every day.
@@kristianbarta I am so happy for you to be able to experience that. Sometimes seeing your hero live makes the journey in our hardest times more rewarding. :-)
It's all marketing. They have created this image of Iceland (shy musicians dressing cozy pull overs and playing cozy songs, ecology, social concern, etc) which is almost like a commercial label. They all do the same, though only two or three are actually good. The true is that Iceland is the most xenophobic country in the world, terribly harsh social atmosphere, and trust me... you just want to be there some few days to see some landscapes and then leaving.
I'm an Indonesian, tho I am a Muslim. We are familiar with Nyepi because Nyepi is one of the national days (Day of Silence). To think about it, after hearing so many times about the song. The ambiance indeed represents what's Nyepi like (and some of the notes also). I do really appreciate how brother Olafur could show them single-handedly just using a piano. Much love, -Mochamad.
Nyepi is a Balinese "Day of Silence" that is commemorated every Isakawarsa (Saka new year) according to the Balinese calendar (in 2019, it falls on March 7). It is a Hindu celebration mainly celebrated in Bali, Indonesia. Nyepi, a public holiday in Indonesia, is a day of silence, fasting and meditation for the Balinese.
Wow. I'm listening to this for the first time... in Canggu, Bali. Thank you for the insight. I would have never known. I'm leaving Bali before the 2020 nyepi (March 25-26th) by just a couple weeks. I love Olafur and the Balinese culture. Happenings like this feel beyond coincidence!
Yes indeed... I produced a CD called Nyepi about 16 years ago... I will be re-releasing it in 2022. This day of Silence is special and important. Respect to the Balinese culture for preserviing this human perspective and appreciation. and always respect for Ólafur's sensitivity as well!
your music makes me cry every time. it seems to open the door to a completely different world, a brighter one, where you can be yourself, makes you throw out all your emotions, and despite this, it seems to give hope for the best. I'm sorry if I'm not very good at forming a thought, but your work really touches me, I'm still so sad that I couldn't get to the concert. I send you my love from Russia.
It is beautifully ironic that I first listened to this song at the beginning of this year from one of his live shows. The introduction he gives about how this is a Balinese celebration of 'silent day' to give Mother Earth a break from humanity - that really spoke to me and I thought, wouldn't it be amazing to have that be a global celebration. A couple months later we are in a pandemic doing basically that in many ways. It is unfortunate that the circumstances involve a lot of human suffering, but the rapid healing of the Earth helps me find peace and calm in these trying times. And this song has been my soundtrack through it all.
Omg...ever so sweet, ever so pure...I anticipate every stroke of sound from the piano. There's something so magical and endearing about this sound..I'm at peace...to everyone who's listening to this I hope this brings you to a peaceful place in your life, soul and ❤️.
I don't really remember since when I started to listen to him but I do remember the feeling I've got, that I was not alone, his magnificent music supported my soul every time I needed it and still, I always have feeling like I'm at home when I listen to him 💖
To all the people who dislike this video: Why do you dislike this video. I am curious, because I can't imagine how a person can dislike this masterpiece.
All these songs you make... they're a feast to our senses 😍 Would you consider bringing them to Brazil one day? Please!! Guys, let's start a campaign to bring Ólafur to Brazil!!!!❤
I love Olafur's music. This touch my soul, very deeply. It is like he will write music about my emotions. And I always think that we have this connection, even we do not know each other, thanks this music. And the words in music are not necessary as we can hear base on this case. I think his music is one special in world. When I hear this the feelings that were during my trip on Lofoten in Norway, when I felt so good and like in a dream.
Your music is so emotional ,its strong enough to get me out that world to my unique imagination ❤ It must be a new language for spiritual peace of every depressed soul Thank u 💙
Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with all of us. This is beyond words... I saw you live in Chicago in 2018 and I'm looking forward to see you again.
Incredibly touching piece, feels like the flow of time stilled for a moment. More than the composition itself, I admire the beautiful way you played it.
Thank you Òlafur for this beautiful piece of art. It's always so fascinating how powerful your music is in establishing emotional connections. I've been a great admirer of your work since eulogy for evolution and especially enjoyed re:member. Yet I never gave that much credit to nyepi. I think it's because I've never linked it to something or just wasn't in the right mood when listening to it. Some weeks ago I sadly had to say farewell and goodbye to my beloved dog. I've found that this song really helped me deal with all my emotions and grieve as I've discovered all the beautiful variants of this song. This live version of the classic piano interpretation, the string quartet version and of course the choir version. Now this song will forever be linked with the great times and joy I've had with my friend and will always be there to help me re:member.
Yay VEVO unblocked this in the US! Now Óli doesn’t have to go through on his threat of eating them. Jokes aside, though, this is too beautiful for words.
Woooow absolutly Perfect. my blood is boiling if i hear that, i fall deep in love and absolutly contentment. I have tears in the eyes omg. is that good

I feel you, brother, you are not alone, never forget that. 3 days ago I was at Olafur's concert in Belgrade and the experience is cathartic.

In case there is another life, I wish you all the best, be happy and do good expecting nothing in return
With every single song, you break my heart. You pick up the pieces. You mend it. You recreate it. You give me a new heart.
Thank you.
Perfect words to underline my feelings too.
Your comment is beautiful, Aty. I wish for you, contentment, love and laughter.

Today suddenly UA-cam just asked me what I think about this video. And I just clicked all 5 stars. Because It's my favorite song :)
Wow. I really like when piano is so soft and atmospheric. Good Job !
One word: Meditation
I cry every time I listen to this piece. It reminds us of the beauty of silence and how we need it in this loud world.
