    Good. But hard to compare neck pup with neck pup with the bridge inbetween.

    Been using the stock 57's on my 335 for a few years now, and just recently started to get the feeling that my tone is just a bit dull. Comparison really shows a stark upgrade to my ears. Just ordered a SD Antiquity set. Thanks for this video!

      In a LP, Ya put a (neck) Antiquity in the neck pos and the 57 Classic + (preferably a 9k or better) in the bridge, trust me, that setup rocks better than anything else on the planet for hot classic to vintage LP tones! in a rock'n tele ya use an antiquity N&B set, with a .001/.010/033 switchable caps on a single volume pot that way ya get the slice and the classic paf with guts vibes! and for super creamy paf vibes get a set of RAW Vintage pafs and you will have the absolute best of the best paf tones for less!btw the Gibby Classics were designed by none other than Tome Holmes who gets $600+ for a single classic HB he sells and they are identical to the Gibbys!@@VisualGuy

    It sounds like the 57 classics are just a tiny bit more aggressive, maybe a little less sweet in the top end. Very close! Bridge seems identical, really just the neck where I hear it.

    Great comparison! They both sound great….I’m leaning more towards the Antiquity set though.

    Bitey vs warm & smooth
    I bet this is a height/polepiece thing more than anything else, but in case that's baked in, the 57s remind me of Alnico II Pros in that sense. Polite and a touch dark in a good way.

    I have a 2021 60s Les Paul Standard with the 61R and 61T Pickups. Thinking of upgrading the pickups to a more vintage set. Intrigued by the Ants. What’s your thoughts on the tonal difference between my stock pickups and the Ants? I definitely don’t need or want the pickups i choose to be hotter or spiky especially in the bridge. Thanks for any advice!!

    • @VisualGuy
      @VisualGuy  2 роки тому +2

      I’ve never tried your pups but the ants are always a solid choice. Use the tone knob on the bridge no matter what set you end up in.

      For me personally, I had to go lower than expected to find the sweet spot.. e.g. much lower than expected... probably due to the fact that they are not wax potted. Hope that helps.

    Gibson pickups are great. I believe the 57s are based on Seth Lover’s original design. I’m not crazy about how the 57s sound though. They sound a little too warm for my tastes.They’re really good but if I had my choice I would go for something brighter

    I had the epiphone 60’s tribute with the 57’s. Nice pickups, but I think there are many better options out there, including these Antiquities. Great tones from them.

    I have the 61t and 61r pickups in my les paul classic, and the bridge is very very ice picky , a little too bright for my tastes (alnico V). I'm looking for the best alnico 2 or 3 pups I can find, and prefer a slightly warmer sound than the alnico V magnets. The antiquities definitely sound clearer, but the 57's have more warmth to my ears. In the room, I know you say the Antiquities win for sure. Which of the 2 (57's and Antiquity) would respond better to overdrive and distorion in your opinion? Think Slash level gain, so hotter than the demo but not modern metal etc. I'm asking only because you were able to hear in the room, so I just need to confirm what I'm hearing is correct. Thank you! :)

    • @VisualGuy
      @VisualGuy  2 роки тому +1

      I think the 57s are the right choice for what you described. My pick is based on my desired tones and less gain than you described. I used to play with a lot more gain, and a JCM800. I loved the 57s then.

      @@VisualGuy thank you, I was thinking the same thing. Before I get caught in analysis paralysis, do you have an opinion on those 57’s compared to Seth lovers for the same purpose?

    • @VisualGuy
      @VisualGuy  2 роки тому

      The 67s are balanced coils so I think the Seth’s would still be spiker than you’d one and also, not potted.

      @VisualGuy  8 місяців тому

      I don't know what you are hearing but I can assure that was and is not the case whatsoever. Probably just hearing tube rattle and old style pine cab construction because the amp is cranked up Loud AF and sitting on tile floor with unpotted pickups.

      The antiquity pups are not wax potted in order to get that historic vibe. That's why I like them so much. Little nuances in your playing can be picked up.
