Great review Brian! Thanks for covering it - made it easier to crack open now, as the size of the game and rulebook had been keeping me from playing it. Cheers dude! 🤜🤛
Thanks so much! It’s way easier to play than it seems. There aren’t a lot of little rules thankfully
great review, looking forward to this game coming to Brazil
Já chegou no Brasil? Espero que sim

Awesome paint job!
Thanks so much!
Love playing this with my wife, don't know if I will ever play with my larger game group.
Try it with 4, but if you don’t have a group that you can be contentious in game with and then shake it off and laugh and enjoy…maybe not lol!
Great paint job ! What paint did you use on these scarabs ?
It’s a color shifting airbrush paint that can be brushed on instead. Geek paints I think is the name?
Turbogeek
Wow ! Thanks for the follow up. Can’t believe you remembered, 4 month later, that you hadn’t given the exact name of those paints to a stranger on the web and felt the need to correct it.
Now let’s see if I can find this brand in France…
Would have liked to see a video on painting those player minis. They look fantastic!
I really need to do some more painting videos.
So “action space selection”
Enjoyed the review. We are currently playing ankh once per week for some time now and were thinking about Pharaoh expansion.
Now I know, we will try it.
I was really thinking it would be overwhelming but was surprised at the ease. Hardest part is remembering to do the Room Actions when the event is triggered.
"Dudes on a Knizia". The best game in this trilogy.
@@jcatterwaul that’s why I refer to it as a spiritual trilogy. Trilogy in spirit.
@@jcatterwaul It's three mythology-based area control games from the same designer, publisher, artist. It's a trilogy based on it being 3 related things
Honestly I’m just excited someone finally reviewed the pharaoh expansion. I haven’t played with it yet but have been curious for other peoples thoughts
It’s an always for us now.
I absolutely LOVE IT!
Once you play it you'll never want to play without it
Is the base game as good without the expansions?
Yes except for maybe Petsuchos. If you didn’t kickstart it, I recommend grabbing a large miniature (preferably 🐊 but anything works) and looking up the card online for it (simple rules)and proxy playing it.
Yes, with the exception of Pharaoh, all the expansions are either adding "bling" to the game or more of (i.e., more gods and/or guardians) but nothing that effects game play. Plus, there are a bunch of scenarios on the base game. If you decide to start blinging your Ankh game and can't afford 2nd market Tomb of Wonder prices, Etsy has great affordable options.
@@TheLatestRetroBoardGameShow Do you play petsuchos with the merge mechanic? Great review thanks a Lot!
What were your thoughts on the merge mechanic though?
I have only played this at 2 , many times and i love it ! I really don't think I will like the merge and wonder if the game will suffer if we house rule it out for more than 2 players.
Played it with 5 only currently multiple times. Merged feeled good.
Can imagine it with 4 p but hard to feel it with only 3 p
It’s weird how I feel lol. On the receiving end of it as player second worst, it’s not as cool. Player worst though it’s nice. And it really can help pick you back up. I like it though. Just the personalities can either mesh well at your table or….lol
@@chrismichael9556 love it at 2 btw.
Too bad that Petsuchos is a Kickstarter exclusive :S
That’s true but he’s super easy to proxy.
@@TheLatestRetroBoardGameShow How though? Every other guardian takes only one space.
@@jannihilator3961 just place another large mini from any game between the two spaces or if you have something pretty huge use that.
I would like this game for the miniatures BUT I don.t like games that eliminate players before the end of the game.
Tbh, game is over so fast, it doesn't really matter.
It happens so close to the end that you don’t feel it really. But I do like how it forces a good competitive.
Good breakdown. Don't agree but nice review. Pretty confident this game will be like Rising Sun in three years (not played or talked about much) while Blood Rage will still be actively played and discussed. Personally I like RS the best of the three but I get why BR has more staying power and think this one will have the same trajectory.
Think I agree. Rising Sun is also my favorite, but Blood Rage is going to continue its reign.
Agreed. This one will fall faster than RS did and BR will still be played by many more. Unimpressed by this one.
You may be right, but the simplicity helps this one with accessibility which facilitates staying power too. The question on blood rage , and this is a hypocritical, do you think that assessment stays if the release order was flipped? May make no difference. Just wondering.
@@TheLatestRetroBoardGameShow I think if rising sun would have come out first, no one would care about blood rage. Blood rage changed the game so much that it became an instant classic. Rising sun would have done the same if it came out first.
@@Iamwrongbut I can see that for sure.
Thanks for the review. Glad you like the game your not alone. As a review I think its a bit of a disservice not to highlight the merge mechanic more as it is so polarizing, unique, and a HUGE part of the game. I thought the game was underwhelming at times and completely frustrating at other times. Definitely so happy I didn't spend a dime on it - to each their own!
The internet are full with whining reviewers who played the game once than were bashing on the merge than quickly moved on to the next hotness in both of their audiences' and their own FOMO. It is a refreshing breeze to listen to somebody who obviously put many games into Ankh before reviewing and appreciates its nuances.
Here’s what I posted on a different comment. Yeah I wish I would have spent another minute or two highlighting it on second thought though.
It’s weird how I feel lol. On the receiving end of it as player second worst, it’s not as cool. Player worst though it’s nice. And it really can help pick you back up. I like it though. Just the personalities can either mesh well at your table or….lol
At first I hated the idea, but it becomes an impetus to fight harder to avoid the merge, or to seek absolute vengeance after you’ve been merged.
