Hi, just stumbled across this video, really enjoyed it :) I'm Welsh, I'm from South Wales, It made me extremely happy to see the respect you had given to our traditions in this carving. Love spoons and Celtic crosses mean a whole lot to our culture than people realise. It's a shame that many people outside of Europe, and sometimes people even in Britain believe Wales is "part of England" which adds a lot of insult to injury considering we occupied Britain before the English. They carried out the same process of elimination to us when they invaded as Anglo Saxons, as they did to the Native Americans.
I apologise for my rambling. Us Welsh are very patriotic. Rydw i'n caru Cymru. :)

Loved it all. The suggestion to put the computer on pause to trace a pattern was outstanding. Thumbs up again!

That is a beautiful job. Interesting to me is that many towns have Linden as a street name, but craftsman use the name basswood, at least in east US. I might have been 50 before I knew it was the same species. Thanks so much for the video!

I think there is more to it than just presents for a loved one.

Hi Joe and thanks for this great video. May I ask how thick your piece of basswood is for this project? I am using lime by the way. Cheers from down-under.

Thanks for your kind words. It is a full one inch thick (25 mm). Basswood, lime and linden are basically the same species.

how long did it take to make?

Maybe an hour? Basswood is soft so it carves easy. Roughing it with saws took most of the wood away leaving just enough to enjoy carving the rest.
