The problem with Hard Corp is they made it insanely hard in the US to combat the rental market. It's balanced around the Japanese version which had a health bar, instead of 1 hit kills.
I learned recently that the US versions of some games were harder because of that. Which is a shame because some of these games woulda been more popular if they weren’t so damn hard. I’m convinced the original Contra wouldn’t have been nearly as popular if there was no Konami Code.
Japanese game developers deeply resented that renting was legal in the US and felt the need to "combat" something that frankly was only getting their name out more. There are so many games I never would have even heard of if I hadn't had the chance to rent a copy first. It makes me wonder just what their attitude towards used game sales are. Oh right, even US developers went on record stating that they thought of used games as "theft". ... Screw the entire games industry.
Hamtaro 😊 Out of all the games, I actually played Hard Corps first (in its European and Australian form called Probotector), and absolutely loved it. Probotector was different in that all the human player characters were replaced with robot versions. Probotector/Hard Corps really is still my all time favourite. Shattered Soldier is my favorite. It was fun discovering strategies on beating the bosses . The hardest part was S ranking the stages. The intro goes hard.

Your statement about Super C, that it was developed in "less than a year" after the original Contra ist slightly misleading. Yes: The Arcade version of Super C was made after one year. But the NES/Famicom versions were made in early 1988 and early 1990, which is a difference of two years. And the NES/Famicom versions are both far superior than the arcade one, with better graphics and whole new areas. This is especially the case for Super C: The playtime of the NES version is twice as high compared to the Arcade original ^^

I feel like you put Shattered Soldier at 4 because you do like the story for that one, don't be ashamed about it. Your review makes it sound like its higher actually and to be fair, Konami at the late 90s-2000s were cooking with the plot of their games at that time. Galuga was great and super fun, until I got to level 4 and the game started kicking my ass lol that's when I started playing the other mode(s). It's really a good, modern, great looking Contra. As for the rest of the list, I'd agree with every single game you ranked, except for switching Contra III and Hard Corps. I was a Genesis guy back then so I enjoyed Hard Corps more than Contra III simply because I had access to Hard Corps way more than Contra III (my best friend had the SNES). And back then, I was able to deal with these sorts of difficult games, not like now where I am nearly 50 and can barely play idle games :D
I don't understand your ranking - especially placing Contra Galuga on third place. Tbh, this ranking is mostly a hot take. Most people hate either Hard Corps or Contra Force. Operation Galuga was not that good since it's slow and the graphics are not good. Super C is considered by many as the best one in the series along with the original.
I get the difficulty complaint of Hard Corps but man, the gameplay, graphics, music, branching paths, multiple characters with unique weapons just blows away any other Contra with all that content! Maybe I'm biased because I've been playing the shit out of Hard Corps lately finishing 3 of the paths and working on the last 3. Contra 3 is great for sure but really only about 1/5 of content of Hard Corps. 3 also is a total bitch to get the "real ending on hard mode.

I don't understand why everyone hates Contra Force... On emulator it's bad and slow, but as I remember it on original system, it was one of my favourite games and I played it a lot... It's different from Contra, that's right, but I thing in a good way, or like equal way, but not bad...
Definietily the best run n gun series of all time, even though gun star heroes is the best run n gun game of all time but that never became a series unfortunetily. contra did, so that automatically puts it at no.1 followed by metal slug series.
Super C is "incredibly difficult"? It may have been that I grew up with this game (Wii VC mainly), but I wouldn't call this game hard. I beat it when I was 7, might as well call it a kids game. Also, I think you're talking about the arcade version. That one has less stages than the NES port, which has eight. 19:17 (timestamp)
remember growing up on super C, like every knockoff of Gameboy or any other video game console had it on my place, man i completed the levels so many fckin times i became bored of it.
I haven't played any of them past the 360/ps3 era. But i remembered most of the 3D ones being horrible. Now i usually don't go eith the flow. I loved DMC 2..i think it's better then part 1. But i remembered the 3D ones being just bad. If felt like they just didn't care. Just wanted to put the band name on it & pass it out for a quick buck. It's about having heart. same here hard corps is my fav but i don't know why you think it is difficult or at least it isn't compared to other contra games PS: what the hell is a hamtaro
I played Contra Force for the first time in 2003 on an emulator. I found a rom site with a lot of chinese bootleg games and I thought it was one of them, both before I downloaded and after I played it. "I know there's only two NES Contra games, and there's no way that Konami made such a low quality title". It was in 2007 when I played Contra 4 that I learned that it was a real game, it was listed in the museum screen. "Wait... that was real?".
Bro cannot strafe for his life. If you learn how to lock and strafe you will enjoy many contras so much more, including Neo Contra. Damm bro, Operation Galuga ABOVE Hard Corps: Uprising. Operation Galuga is alright (IMO), but not as good as one of the best contra games ever made; HCU is easily top 3 contra; deserves more love :( Also, oooomph, Super C, from GB, IMO is a bit better than the snes one.
Oooof. You have the first 2 (NES) games kind of low. They'd be my top 2. Also, am I the only Contra fan would doesn't care for Hard Corps Uprising? It comes off just like Contra Force where it was a different game with similarities so they just slapped the name on it, or at least sort of since it's the only one without the actual word Contra (or the letter C like Super C) in it.
My favorite? Original NES Contra for sure. Hard Corps was awesome, not sure if I ever completed the medium path or not. Definitely did not complete the hard path. Not sure if I ever got to the end of Alien Wars. It's definitely a hard one. I really enjoyed Galuga. It felt really great to play, and the upgrade system in story mode is a great way to learn the game and get good. My biggest complaint, though, is that it's way too long. It's fine for story mode, but if you're wanting to play NES style and go arcade mode...brother this ain't that kind of game. You got 30-45 minutes TOPS for a good arcade shooter. Galuga is just far too long for that. I could run all the way through original Contra in like 13 minutes. That's two stages of Galuga, and that's if you're pushing the entire time. All that said though, it's still a great game and I hope they add some stuff to it. It's got a great foundation for tons of fun, the fundamentals are all there and work really well.
After having played most of the series Contra Hard Corps is still my favorite. Its possible that i have slight bias toward it since i grew up with it on Sega Genesis. However it is still a nonstop thrillride that is tough as nails "especially the U.S version".
God damn bro I instaclicked on this one just to hear that sweet mumble about rogue corps. I must say though I got it for 1.99 from 40 euros on the switch and even though it was probably the worst isometric twin stick shooter I played in terms of design I actually enjoyed it a little bit and even finished it, no way in hell I am ever going to touch it again though.
Operation Galuga this high? This game is a mediocre entry, bad graphics, poor level design, bad weapon balancing... It is quite an embarassing showing for a 2024 game that competes with much older titles. If you are looking for a "modern" Contra then you've got Uprising, and if you want a 3D Contra then Shattered Soldier is the pick. As for Contra Hard Corps on Genesis, you can try the Japanese version if it is too difficult. It's got hits points so you can get hit three times before dying, that makes it a much less frustrating experience.
Guilty gear with guns is not Contra. Even though it suppose to be a prequel to Contra it’s definitely not a coincidence it didn’t bear the name. It didn’t sale well either so don’t knock anyone’s preference in which Contra they like most or what tier that put it in because the same can be said about whichever one is your favorite. Real Contra fans wanted a return to form, a return to its roots. Contra O.G did exactly that. It won’t win a beauty contest but it is a great game Contra game or shall I say reimagining of the first to Contra games. The graphics are not that bad because the 3D graphics or 2.5D graphics looks better than Uprisings. Uprising character animations sprites look good but the 2.5 or 3D models have aged. Operation O.G is for the fans of the Contra 1-4 games. Contra 4 is better than Uprising. Uprising felt exactly what it was, a spin off. It could have been its own game without even being connected to Contra.
Uprising isn’t that great either, it tries to be a metal slug with arc sys typical anime sprites and it fails pretty hard. Its saving grace is it has online play something operation galuga lacks, but galuga has more levels, 4 player coop, a mission mode similar to contra 4 and actually feels like a contra game.
Operation Galuga is great. Graphics are modern and not some outdated pixel art from a prehistoric times (sorry, I was looking at NES games too much in my life and I have enough pixels). "Poor level design" is some kind of joke I guess cause this Contra has longest levels with two bosses for every level since 2, also there are completely different ideas behind each level. "Bad weapon balancing" yes and no. Yes, cause double C and double H are op, but also No because there are some tactics behind it. For example against Heart boss at level 4 overloading F weapon is the key to win that fight easily. It is quite an embarassing for people who hates this game. Honestly, after so many many, many, years we finally got a game as good as old original with so many cool features like 4 players coop and overloading weapons. For everyone who just like me enjoyed the most Contra 4 and 1 -> wait for some sale and buy Operation Galuga. It's one of the best with tons of references to original. Buy it, grab some friends, set 1-hitpoint option, Hard difficulty, Retro Remix and have some good old action :) For people like you: go back to your Contra Hard Corps.
@@kathleendelcourt8136 Lol, so you are calling Contra: Hard Corps original? :D :D :D That's funny, cause you know, it was one of these weird experiment that never worked out so it never got any sequel. The only reference that ever happened to Contra: Hard Corps is in OG, so they even were thinking about you :P Look at the Contra series. There is the original, SuperC, Operation C, 3, 4, Rebirth, OG. All of these are great and worth playing. And there are many experiments: Force, Hard Corps, Shattered Soldier, some 3D games, Rogue Corps etc. Some are playable and some are just craps. "meh reboots" for me :D :D I wish there would be another one as "meh" as OG but I'm aware that the first one is 40 years old and many old fans like me are not interested anymore with games. Shotgun in shattered soldier is the spread shot, spread shot is a shotgun in all contra games imo
I don't understand why everyone hates Contra Force... On emulator it's bad and slow, but as I remember it on original system, it was one of my favourite games and I played it a lot... It's different from Contra, that's right, but I thing in a good way, or like equal way, but not bad...
With neo and shatter soilder you have to kill every enemy and destroy every breakable object without dying to get the real ending.
Definietily the best run n gun series of all time, even though gun star heroes is the best run n gun game of all time but that never became a series unfortunetily. contra did, so that automatically puts it at no.1 followed by metal slug series.
Can you plz tell me how you get 99 life in Contra Neo ?
my fave contra game is always super C .so yeayh i love contra just the way it is like operation c
Hamtaro, keep up the good work
Super c is my number 1
my first contra game was the contra hard corp , and still the best on my opinion😊
beside the gameplay, bgm was so awesome i love it soo muchh🔥
The Alien Wars will always be my favorite! #Hamtar

I never played hard corp. I have to check it out.
remember growing up on super C, like every knockoff of Gameboy or any other video game console had it on my place, man i completed the levels so many fckin times i became bored of it.
I feel you should have included the Arcade games in this list.
You can tell the difference easily.

@@TotallyTubularJonathan You didn't cover Call Of The Mountain, did you? Or am I mistaken? Well, Gauntlet and Trine are the ones I'd wish to see the most. They would be very fitting for this channel.
Fun fact about Contra 3, it was the first Contra game I played, so seeing it at the top was a good decision.
Also, Hamtaro.
Good video great job!
Nice Video ! Sub & Big Like ! And Love Contra Game !
hard corps wasn't that difficult
i could beat it as a kid, and i'm not that good
awesome game though, great soundtrack

Little hamsters big adventures
Contra Hard Corps is my favorite.
I guess there were 15 of these huh? lol
same here hard corps is my fav but i don't know why you think it is difficult or at least it isn't compared to other contra games PS: what the hell is a hamtaro
Contra 4 is the best Contra game, it is too bad it is stuck on the DS.
Contra force wasn't originally a contra game
You wanna play a balls hard Genesis game? Play Undead Line. You might think Hard Corps is easy by comparison.
Think hamtaro had as much chest hair as a 12 year old?
Bro cannot strafe for his life. If you learn how to lock and strafe you will enjoy many contras so much more, including Neo Contra.
Damm bro, Operation Galuga ABOVE Hard Corps: Uprising. Operation Galuga is alright (IMO), but not as good as one of the best contra games ever made; HCU is easily top 3 contra; deserves more love :(
Also, oooomph, Super C, from GB, IMO is a bit better than the snes one.
Probotectors ftw !
"hard corpse"
😂
Super C is the best. That's not debatable
After having played most of the series Contra Hard Corps is still my favorite. Its possible that i have slight bias toward it since i grew up with it on Sega Genesis.
However it is still a nonstop thrillride that is tough as nails "especially the U.S version".
Gryzor 💯
C the contra adventure is actually a really good game I don't understand the hate
God damn bro I instaclicked on this one just to hear that sweet mumble about rogue corps. I must say though I got it for 1.99 from 40 euros on the switch and even though it was probably the worst isometric twin stick shooter I played in terms of design I actually enjoyed it a little bit and even finished it, no way in hell I am ever going to touch it again though.
haha yeah it sucks!
I'm glad you got rid of the non Cannon contra games first and then went to the official ones
For me :
1. Contra hard corps sega
2. Contra 3
3. Contra 4 DS
Same here
Operation Galuga this high?
Buy it, grab some friends, set 1-hitpoint option, Hard difficulty, Retro Remix and have some good old action :)
For people like you: go back to your Contra Hard Corps.
@@Olagfigh Great originals for us and meh remakes and reboots for you. Everyone's happy.
@@kathleendelcourt8136 Lol, so you are calling Contra: Hard Corps original? :D :D :D
That's funny, cause you know, it was one of these weird experiment that never worked out so it never got any sequel.
The only reference that ever happened to Contra: Hard Corps is in OG, so they even were thinking about you :P
Look at the Contra series.
You kid wouldn't appreciate a good Contra even if it be there right in front of your nose.
Hamtaro!
no dos version of contra the good one with pink and white hilariously bad.
Lol keeping it to one version! Otherwise we’d have that ridiculous version, the arcade version, probotector etc etc
hard corp first :P

It's novel that the wii contra is sprite based. Shame that the sprites are extremely ugly. I don't like how it looks at all
