Thank you all for watching :)
The way he said “I love the history and the culture” immediately after ordering kamikaze shots is absolutely diabolical script work 😭
Wait why? I don’t understand
I don’t get it😭 pls explain
@@phinehasmaximuskamikaze were the japanese suicide bombers in WWII
@@coollittlebinch4689WWII
I searched up the origin of the drink and it’s said to be named after Japanese kamikaze bombers who would fly their planes into enemy ships during World War II (Correct me if I got any of that information wrong)
Hey everyone! Writer/director Tristan Au here- thank you so so much for watching Omakase! Our team wants to thank Emily again for giving the film a home where ya'll can enjoy it! For those wondering, the film is also on Letterboxd! Thanks again for your support- I love reading all your comments, it's what motivates filmmakers like us to create more :)
It turned out well ☺️ what other films have you worked on?
i would love to see more of your work!!
this is amazing!!
❤
Good job, really good film with great actors 🥰
him wondering why she didn’t pick up a call from work and why she DID pick up a call from her mom was a *fantastic* yet subtle way to make him seem more like an asshole
Totally agreed
The moment I realized she's only going on dates at that specific restaurant so that she can see Ika 🥹
Pretty much
Wait thank you cuz I was so confused😭
righttt
yeah like thats so real going to a restaurant/place that is familiar with your culture for a sense of belonging. and like seeing someone that looks like you, in a majority white crowd, is just very comforting.
@@vforvaleriie i thought she was just gay lol
she only goes on dates because the restaurant doesn’t take solo reservations and she wants to see ika oh this is so sweet
That makes more sense, I thought it meant she just really liked the food 😂
I would be making reservations too lol
THAT'S ADORABLE OMFG
"In this big city, you meet so many people..."
"and the only face i choose to remember is yours." THATS SO CUTEEE!!!
I screamed!!! Such good writing and very well executed ❤❤❤
i teared up when she said that
that part got me blushing and giggling
Emily might not be pregnant but she always delivers🗣️🔥‼️
Always!
how do we know for sure...
snot out my nose laughing rn 💀 thats so good
Emily might not be delivering but never fails to get us pregnant
She's not even Emily though wdym??
as an queer person from an traditional middle eastern immigrant household i can relate to so many things portrayed in this video. Your parents constantly wanting you to bring someone home from the opposite sex (and from the same culture), being raised with the mentality that you’re only successful if you create an family . this short movie is everything .
frr this is so true!
OMG literally the same, except we still live in the Middle East 😔
Agreed, these are my exact thoughts and a constant basis of feeling like I won’t make my parents proud if I don’t get married to a man and have kids while having a successful career
Same but also add religious homophobia
not Mark claiming to love the history right after ordering two Kamikaze shots 😫
William Poole understand the assignment, my God. Hats off to that guy for making me feel such discomfort, good job, ugh.
i actually tweaked at that part💀
And not knowing Hokusai... 🙄
oh man speaking english with your asian parents speaking back to you in your native language is so real...
realll
yeah…😭💔
What? Why don't you speak your native language as default then? Wouldn't it be easier for you as well since you know it better?
@@emiliakopyta2664 Most of the time, it’s because it’s a serious conversation (like the one in this film). My skill level in my native language is pretty low, and gets worse by the day. If I want to properly express myself, I have to speak in English (the language I am more proficient in). Even then, it’s pretty hard getting my ideas across without getting upset or emotional.
@@emiliakopyta2664 idk if you have immigrant parents or are living in the US or not, but the sad reality is that many children of immigrant parents don't have much proficiency in their native language because their parents wanted them to learn english and many of our parents didn't bother to teach us our native language when we were young
OMG NOOOO I WANTED TO SEE THEIR RELATIONSHIP BLOSSOM THIS IS SOOOO GOOD i love the angle of her just feeling obligated to date these guys because of her mother so it never feels genuine but she meets ika and that’s “the first time she’s laughed like that in a long time” ohhhhh i love this
she also always goes to that one restaurant just to see Ika!
I love how you can still see Emily's personality poking through in her character
what do you mean? she didn't speak to another version of herself a single time 😆
@@_Brohan😂

dude fr shes such a good actor, it reminds me a lot of Natasha lyonne how her personality also shines through the character a bit, def my fav actors :D
mark had me snarling frothing foaming at the mouth wanting to jump through the screen like withered foxy's FNAF 2 jumpscare
im sorry what 💀

@@milkisthealmond I would have ceased to exist out of pure animosity I think
Mark had me tweaking
it was so accurate omg
"why would you talk to your mom on our date?" THE NERVE OF THIS GUY😭
my ex said the same thing! it was so hard to explain and she was not even trying to understand or maybe she just couldn't😞
10:33 - when it goes silent as natsumi is trying to tell her mother how she feels because her mother isn’t hearing her 😭
THISS
I feel like based on what she’s trying to say, it isnt that she knows her mother wont hear her out, its that she doesnt know the right words in her mother tongue to properly express how she feels so she can only stammer in English while her mother continues since she doesnt understand English very well. Explaining complex things while being Asian American in your mother tongue is rather difficult and this exact scenario has happened multiple times where you get ignored if you cant properly express how you feel in your mother tongue vs English.
@@seraphywang4638REAL!!
@@seraphywang4638I understand where you're coming from but I think her mom is just not willing to hear her out. Even if she doesn't understand English well, you'd think she'd stop to try and listen at least but she just keeps talking until her daughter gives up. I also don't believe she doesn't understand English well considering she understood all the previous sentences just fine. In her mother's case, English is her second language so I think she comprehends it well but can't reply to it hence why they're both speaking to each other in different languages. It's also clear that her mother is somewhat manipulative even if not intentionally so. I mean the whole conversation is like that where her mother keeps denying that she meant one thing when she actually meant that thing to the point where it feels like gaslighting.
It's so weird seeing Emily in a film instead of talking to her clones. This was an enjoyable watch ^^
have you not seen empathy man?? she did so amazing there

yes!!
congratulations to everyone who was working so hard on this film
22:33 The "and the only face I choose to remember is yours" was sooo cute, got me giggling like a child ❤️❤️❤️ My favorite short film ever!

the act of giving away your last cigarette is so beautifully and subtly romantic, so intimate. chills, this was actually beautiful. the depiction of intercultural dating and the challenges of being queer. i’m obsessed. the writing, the acting, it’s all beautiful.
That date had me feeling secondhand embarrassment like crazy. 😮
Aside from that, this was a good, thought-provoking film. Makes me wish we could see what happens next with their relationship, but I'm guessing the ambiguity adds more to the film than a definitive answer.
Sameeee
Same, pausing so often to collect myself, and try to push forward
emily is always so sarcastic that sometimes i forget shes genuinely a PHENOMENAL actor too
im already crying and it's not even halfway through. 10:23 seeing her try to tell her mom something and then lose all of that momentum hit me so hard 😭
fr i would've cried at least twice in that phone call lol
Its 1 a.m in India and i was studying imagine MY JOY ON SEEING EMILY UPLOADING THIS.

the bus station scene oh my god, the way I COULD FEEL MY HEART BEATING IN MY EARSSSSS. you can see they both are awkward, shy maybe too. They both just enjoy the moment, smoking and talking about life. I’ve waited 2 days for this film checking every minute if it’s up yet and it is PERFECTION.

0:01 THIS IS ALREADY SO GOOD
I love the black screen too so good
what a stupid comment
Ok
It was revolutionary from the 1st frame
Frr it’s already a MASTERPIECE
william poole (the guy who plays mark) did so good at acting i never felt more mad at a man before
can we just appreciate how beautifully this is shot and edited. the guy's acting is amazing he did a great job at making anyone feel the awkwardness, the girls acting is also flawless, goes without saying
I was on the edge of my seat, hoping the bus wouldn't suddenly show up and interrupt💀 This is so well done
Not enough people talking about Mark ordering his Wagyu beef well done. I died laughing.
Especially after saying he "doesn't understand why people wouldn't eat raw food" lol Wonderfully cringey character
I was livid! He butchered the amazing cut of meat and not in a good way!
This is such a beautiful film. As a queer actor, it is so heartwarming to see independent films being made that touch on the highs and lows of the LGBTQ community in such a sensitive and loving way!
The acting, direction, cinematography, and story were absolutely amazing and inspiring to see! Can't wait to experience what's next for Emily and the rest of the team involved in making this 💫
The fact that Emily's character is named on screen but is just credited as "The Waitress" reminds me of that It's Always Sunny running gag
I NEED A SEQUEL WHERE THEY GROW OLD TOGETHER AND LIVE A HAPPY LESBIAN LIFE AND LEARN TO ACCEPT THEIR TRUE SELVES AND BLOSSOM THIS WAS SO GOOD!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA IM SO HAPPY YOUR ACTING CAREER IS GETTING SOMEWHERE EMILY I LOVE YOU
"I'm sitting here eating your food... I'm different...!" EXCUSE ME??? 😨😭
Smile y’all we’re witnessing peak
No, the peak is yet to come. I hope Emily gets to star in feature length productions playing around the world, not just on UA-cam or in artsy cinemas of big cities.
Ofc the random UA-cam projects have better writing than the big names in Hollywood lmao- (great job on this btw)
"and the only face i choose to remember is yours." I'M SCREAAAMING I LOVE THESE TWO SM
OKAYYY THIS ATEEEEEEE!!! And the title????? It means “leave it to you” it’s literally so perfect 😭✋
mika is such a phenomenal actress!!
her performance really tugged on my heartstrings, seeing so much effort in restraint, but ultimately, the cracks are only getting deeper. it made me quite emotional!
The food in this film was so beautifully made! I really love how they showed it off
DUDE THIS IS AMAZING WHAT??? edit: just finished it, GREAT short film, amazing even.
This is such a beautiful piece of art! Props to everyone who worked on this, because you all deserve so much credit. I love how the ending wasn’t a big jump into a relationship, but rather a sort of open ending that shows that the two characters will grow closer and actually learn more about each other. The contrast between the way Natsumi interacts with Mark, showing off how he is much more choking when talking to her and barely lets herself, compared to how Natsumi is with Ika, having the two compliment each others style of speech and properly having breathing room between the dialogue! This was so good and I’m truly impressed with the creativity and artistry 😊
WAIT IM SO EXCITED TO WATCH
When I was a little kid I would play with these little toy dinosaurs that I would call my "dino pals". I loved them so much. Now I despise everything. So no, I'm not excited to watch. Nothing excites me now. Life is nothing but a brief oasis of pain between two screaming voids of empty infinity

the stolen glances while theyre sitting shoulder to shoulder at the bus stop had my heart aching!!!!
This hits entirely too hard, the Asian aspect of parents pushing you towards the opposite sex consistently. This was such a wonderful script! And every actor was SO good here. Also LOVE the soundtrack. An all around masterpiece!

EMILY LEATHER COAT ERA DSJKJKF you all look so pretty!!!!!!!
when natsumi realized that mark was, in fact, "that trashy guy"
I like that when she’s with that guy, the camera switches quickly and you never get time to pause, but when shes with the other girl, it’s calmer and gives you peaceful silences.
no idea how i got brought to tears over this but this movie is PEAK!!!! thank you to everyone who wokred on it!!!!!
literally i was bawling my eyes out
I knew I had a feeling about that guy. And when Ika left, I was screaming, "go after her!"
Everyone deserves to be themselves.
As a straight aroace dude this still made me smile whilst still making my eyes water a bit.
Art, to me, is conveying emotion and meaning through our senses to tickle the funny parts of our brains. Thank you guys for letting me relive that
Genuine question how can you be both straight and aroace?
Him saying “taco” and her correcting him and then him CORRECTING HER made me unreasonably mad
You know when you want to punch a character in the face that the acting and writing is truly fantastic! But really, this was incredible, the writing - especially the dialogue - felt so nuanced and emotional while balancing personality and the reality of how people sound in casual conversation. Everyone here seems so so talented, congrats on a fantastic piece of art and it will truly be a joy to see what everyone does next, good luck and thank you 💗

WAKE UP BABE OMAKASE JUST DROPPED
this was BEAUTIFUL. to me, what makes this so beautiful, is the fact that there is someone out there who will truly connect to this film. recognise themselves and feel seen and heard and appreciated. I can tell that this film was made with passion and love for the audience.
The way I felt so giddy while Ika and Natsumi were chatting at the bus stop was wild. I was so invested. This was so beautiful and everyone's talent really shined!

7 minutes in and am really impressed by camera work.... Plus also the subtle hint of irony about the so called cultural love of the guy.
As gut-wrenching as it is beautiful, this short film hit all the right notes to accomplish something memorable and meaningful. The entire premise is delightful, not to mention how well-executed it is. Major kudos to everyone who worked hard to bring this project into reality!
