Want more?! How about a little FAQ
    ❓Why Folsom Ocean Views?!
⚓️Because Folsom is Charles’ last name and it’s a play on the Johnny Cash Lyric "Folsom Prison Blues".
    ❓Why a #Catamaran?
⚓️Jes gets really seasick while #sailing and the upstairs galley really helps when we #travel.
❓You both work full time jobs?
⚓️Yup. Charles has a traditional 9-5 position as the Director of Customer Success and Jes owns her own business doing art commissions for clients. #WorkingandSailing
    ❓Where to Next?
⚓️We are not sure. Part of the fun of this #DigitalNomad #lifesytle is that you can pick your #adventures

Hey All! We got a new lens filter right before we shot this video, and I (Jes) never checked the footage while we were filming. Turns out I didn't have it on quite right, so you might see a slight rainbow effect on the footage for this week. Live and learn, right!? As always thanks to all for the support, and Enjoy the extra colors 🌈

To aid in the lazy jacks getting hung up you can add a slacking line to the top guys and prior to raising the main and they will lay closer to the mast and be well clear of the batten ends. Once the sail is up re-tighten the lazy Jack and good to go. Duel Pulley on top to a line, to the top of lazy jacks, down to turning block(s) to a clutch.
    Just one more line... Right?

    • @FolsomOceanViews
      @FolsomOceanViews  3 роки тому +1

Now that you mention it - we have lines on the lazy jacks that we can easily raise and lower. Our's our are rigged a little differently (we have two independent lines) but I will definitely give that a shot next time!

You need to check your rigging. You sail issue maybe related to the top of your mast tilting stern of the boat. Any quick bend(s) in the mast is a concern. More so on a CAT. See video at 13:35

    • @FolsomOceanViews

The vast majority of sailboats are rigged with a traveler (a turning block and track that runs perpendicular to the boat) and a mainsheet (a line/rope that connects the boom to the traveler). On a catamaran, with the extra width, the traveler is generally the first thing that you adjust when setting your sail trim. Between the traveler moving across the coach roof, and the amount of mainsheet you have let out, it is fairly intuitive to put the boom where you want it. For example, when sailing upwind, you typically would keep the mainsheet tight and move the traveler about 1/3 of the way towards the windward side of the boat. This will keep the main sail dead down the center line of the boat and let you point just a little bit farther upwind.
On our boat, instead of a traveler and main sheet, we have 2 main sheets. The turning blocks for the main sheets are placed at the very end of where the traveler would extend to (if it existed). This means that instead of using the traveler to control the horizontal position of the boom, and the main sheet to control the vertical (until you get outside the traveler anyway) - we have to use both main sheets together. So in the upwind example from above, we tighten the windward main sheet to pull the boom closer to the wind (mimicking the movement of the traveler) and use the leeward side sheet to control the height.
It's a little less intuitive (if you ask me) because you have to think about how the two lines will work together instead of just one line controlling horizontal and the other controlling vertical. But there are 2 major benefits that we've found:
      1) An accidental jibe is far less dangerous. If you never extend the boom past the turning blocks, then the leeward main sheet acts as a preventer.
      2) Once you get the boom where you want it, you can tighten down both sheets a little and there is very little boom movement. On a light wind day with a traveler/main sheet the boom might flop around and make a bunch of noise, but we don't ever have to worry about that.
Sorry for the long answer, but hopefully that helps!
