Barn find ONAN LK 2.5 generator finally has spark

Series J unit built in 1972. Unit was outside in the rain for decade and full of pine straw. It probably last ran 25 plus years ago. The oil was changed after this video. The plug would foul quickly after each shot of ether. The carb bowl and carb internals had water and would draw up water into the cylinder head. The carb took water by rain since no connection was to the air cleaner, The next plan is to debug the unit first using propane as the fuel. The LK variant marketed for propane has a different cylinder head so the compression ratio is higher

I have the same generator on my bucket truck. The generator end has a pto shaft welded to it to spin the hydraulic pump. Its worn out and tired.

How much oil does yours hold? I have manuals that say 2qts. My lk didn't have a dipstick and smokes, cant tell if its worn out or overfilled. Thanks

The sales literature says 4 pints, ie 2 US Quarts (1.89 Liter)
