A Porous Imagination: The Ocean and the Unconscious

In this conversation artist Beatriz Santiago Muñoz joins María Montero Sierra, head of program of TBA21-Academy, to discuss the research and process behind the short film Pájaro, cómeme (2022). The dialogue deals with the artist’s recent work on the sensorial unconscious of anti-colonial movements, the formal experimentation with language and narrative departing from feminist practices, as well as the incorporation of the everyday poetic, and how this has been translated to her flimic work on TBA21 st_age. The meaning of the aquatic on the decolonization process, but also the traditional image of the Ocean and our relationship with it, are central to this discussion, which equally opens up possibilities on how to challenge our preconceived forms of seeing and imagining by “thinking from the place.”
