Are they kidding us? Bringing a new electric car in Europe in 2022 with 50 kW ChaDeMo? Mann oh Mann oh Mann...
They are still trying to prove people don't want EVs lol. Toyota is in trouble lol
Indeed, this car looks to be extremely outdated in every aspect.
Nah! Couldn’t stop laughing when he said that 😂
Looks like the motor gets more room than rear passengers.
You actually get less headroom that a UX200 or a UX250h.... I've actually drove this UXe for the whole day from 100% to 0% and the expected range is no where near what is outlined! You're welcome to watch it and let me know what you think.
Seems like they just released it in order to have an EV in the range with what ever tech they had disposable. Very limited R&D went into it and the technology and interior is from 10 years. The depreciation would be horrible with all the new EVs comming out now.
Just like Volkswagen
Correct. The UX 300e is a compliance car and nothing more, it's required to bring down the average CO2 emission across all models. It's obvious that Toyota/Lexus didn't try very hard and they never expected to sell a lot of these.
Also, why are people acting like this is a new car? It's been around since 2020...
@@JC130676 Lexus has to start somewhere. Their electric cars from the scratch will be really competitive. They're still refining the recipe.
You did it Thomas, thank you!
on special request :-)
It is appreciated.
Great review Thomas.. I am looking forward to the new NX review!…..
Thanks we ll keep u updated!
What a car, glad to see it here.
“what a car” is something you could say about a 911 GT3, not this lmao
I think the range is sufficient should you have the opportunity to charge at work or the place you travel to and park at. Size and interior quality make for a perfect car.
Thank you Thomas. Great review and great vehicle. Don't know when I'll get to drive this EV, no sign of it coming to South Africa anytime soon sadly.
not really a great vehicle, it has bad range, bad infotainment system, no space in the rear and is not fast.
Thanks for tuning in!
@@kristians2704 "Don't buy me" compliance car? 😁
@@abraxastulammo9940 Yea, seems like Toyota is pulling a BMW. "Look there is no EV demand! No one is buying our purposely bad EV!"
I think this might be worse than the Mazda MX-30 ... and that is saying something!!
This car already appears obsolete IMO, what do you think?
agreed, underwhelming in all fronts
battery size is OK charging with chademo sucks in 2022... and charging speed is on the level of the 1/3 price VW e-UP
It is a shame cos the car is actually well done but the range... I actually drove this UXe for the whole day from 100% to 0% and the expected range is no where near what is outlined! You're welcome to watch it and let me know what you think.
Would love to see reviews of the new subaru outback and jeep gladiator. Thanks!
cheers! We do have something of the Gladiator in this fun video: ua-cam.com/video/Ve90VdxcPhI/v-deo.html
And the Outback: ua-cam.com/video/XOGv0GeUQiE/v-deo.html
Would be great to see more Subarus.
I'm so hoping when you do a review of the Lexus NX you test the 450h+ F Sport, and that it won't be too long before you do the test. Take care Thomas and keep safe.
sure we are on that as well
stay safe !
Plug in hybdrids are almost always way less efficient than full hybrids for most situations. I‘d much rather take the full hybrid NX
Lexus NX review is now here: ua-cam.com/video/KaZ5LMkYA44/v-deo.html
👌
Great video, I have only driven the UX250h, I like the rear light bar. Thanks for sharing :)
thanks keep tuning in :)

A properly built little CUV. The hybrid just chews through miles. Best decision I made was buying one.
It would be interesting to investigate a little bit further about the motors when reviewing electric cars.⚡️ The most everyone says is what can be found anywhere else like range, kWh of the battery 🔋 and kW of the engine but there is a lot more that could be told like if the motor is using rare earth magnets 🧲 or the wiring configuration.
Agreed! Cell chemistry, IM or PM motors, pack voltage, pack buffer, all these things matter. Als would be good to know who makes the actual parts like motors, cells, packs, inverters, etc. as a lot of legacy OEMs just buy parts available to any OEM. Obviously, this vehicle was just a parts catalog thrown into an ICE chassis (and it shows). Really doubt they even want to sell these things or they would have tried harder.
Hi Thomas, is the MG Marvel R available in Germany? It would be nice to have an in-depth review from you. Price wise it’s in the UX300e range but seems to be about the size of the NX.
not yet afaik
Looks very nice!
The interior and features really don't look like something one would expect from a premium brand. Compared to the spectacular efforts in terms of design and quality DS is putting into their recent vehicles, this Lexus couldn't be more bland and uninteresting.
The Germans will somehow make EVs unreliable. It is in their nature to do so. Look at Porsche taycan, it already has two speed gearbox.
No, the Germans have been a lot better than Lexus at EV’s. A lot of problems with the UX, and the USA products with Tesla etc is just junk!
People complained about the original UX and i thought it had a nice look to it. (I never drove one so maybe it was a driving aspect). I don’t know how I’d feel about an all electric one though. And Lexus needs to update that key fob asap.
I don't like when electric vehicles makes fake sounds.
It sounds silly
I bought one and it’s amazing. Range is always a trade off between a bigger heavier battery and a stiff suspension. Toyota employs its top engineers at Lexus and they have delivered imho. Academic though they have bowed to the consumer and increased to a larger heavier 72kw battery for their second iteration
Not really a fan of UX styling and packaging. Genuinely surprised you loved the sporty driving! The upcoming Lexus RZ (new BEV) ought to be far more interesting.
I actually drove this UXe for the whole day from 100% to 0% and the expected range is no where near what is outlined! Also in regards to the 'sporty driving', I felt sick after about 15 minutes of climbing the mountain. It's hard to explain but when you've got that much weight under you the whole dynamics of the car is different. Especially in a car like this where it's whole structure is not intended for all-electric. Anyways you're welcome to watch my video and let me know what you think.
When are going to get your hands on a Genisis GV 60.?
Not sure yet but we are on it!
Plastic fenders and steps on a luxury model? Come on Lexus, you can do better then that!
Lexus and Solid State Battery? I will definitely buy one!
🤣😂 The trackpad is a "Thomas Special", just to annoy Thomas. I do agree, it is horrible. How can the driver concentrate on driving, just beats me.
😁
Genuine observation:
As a consumer, I would prefer to hear about the total cubic capacity of the boots of the cars you review, rather than the less scientific approach of wiggling an extendable ruler about. Alternatively, take a standard cabin sized suitcase and demonstrate the usability of the space on offer by showing how easily (or not) the suitcase fits. I never feel that I truly understand the capacity by randomly measuring different areas of the boot with your ruler.
Didnt you see the suitcase?
If we have the litres figures we also state it
Hey Kevin, I've made a review on this and would love to hear your thoughts on it (if you have time :)
Short range, ugly exterior (IMO), dated-looking tech (I like physical buttons though), no rear seat space.. yeah not sure why anybody would bother with this thing.
It is a shame cos the car is actually well done but the range... I actually drove this UXe for the whole day from 100% to 0% and the expected range is no where near what is outlined! You're welcome to watch it and let me know what you think.
they ruined it with chademo
This the review I’ve been waiting for months. But I’ve watched Matt Watson’s which was not a complete review. In terms of the charging and rage I’m not sure that I am ready for this car. I rather prefer my CT200h hybrid instead.
My favorite electric vehicle is the Porsche Panamera.
Mat Watson always has issues with Lexus cars. Don't even waste my time watching those videos he does anymore.
It is a shame cos the car is actually incredibly well done but the range... I actually drove this UXe for the whole day from 100% to 0% and the expected range is no where near what is outlined! You're welcome to watch it and let me know what you think.
@@nxau120 I make a lot of Lexus reviews, if you have time let me know what you think :)
@@SergCarReviews I have watched these but the video quality is just not at the level I can focus on. Do you watch Tom Voelk, that's a great direction to take your video quality.
I own a Lexus and love it but this one is not interesting to me, it is not capable of long trip due to slow charging and low range, at this price point one can get more space and the ability to travel long distances. The choice of chademo connector in 2022 seems …stupid
Great review Thomas!! Omg Thomas Blue car with your matching blue jacket 👌 shame about the car because it’s poor mileage and rubbish screen
thanks =)
Oh man, that range though
There's some research that suggest battery capacities that exceed this sort of size are dangerous. One of the key reasons Toyota and Mazda are developing more efficient packs that are smaller and go further.
This is one of the worst EVs you can buy right now.
Lexus is king 👑
Thanks Thomas for another thorough review. Don't like all the acute angles. Everything else is par.
Cheers!
It's a great little car, size wise it cannot be matched for a luxury experience.
Not yet available, but once it is, it will need a BIG re-fresh.
I have the hybrid 250h as my gas sipper and love it. I suggest for the trackpad to use your middle finger. It becomes way easier. I think the most annoying thing with the car is if you go down a dirt road or wet roads, that backside is a magnet of dirt and water droplets because of how it's like aerodynamically. That and the back has USB-C but the front has USB-A. wtf Lexus?
Lexus is pretty stupid for not using CCS and having higher charging speeds. But their views on electric cars are pretty stupid, clearly they haven’t done any research….
Toyota/Lexus need to be careful. Kia/Hyundai are making more compelling cars, more advanced. And this doesn't touch the GV60. This doesn't seem as good as the Volvo XC40 which isn't a new design at all. I expect much better from Lexus. They're resting on their laurels. This is a bland, dated, and rather poor effort from Lexus.
Range is abysmal. Great review though. Love the high speed and countryside driving portions.
🤟
Let’s look at the big picture, This is a test car by Toyota. They aren’t gonna throw their top selling flagship vehicles in the EV world until they learn more, that is what they do. Putting the dated UX out there makes perfect sense, gathering the data while nobody is watching (or wanting) this car.
It's a great car, the range is not awesome but it is sufficient for most people. Lexus also has reservations about safety of larger battery capacities so I trust their judgement.
if this counts as a great car then any new car counts as a great car😂
It is a shame cos the car is actually incredibly well done but the range... I actually drove this UXe for the whole day from 100% to 0% and the expected range is no where near what is outlined! You're welcome to watch it and let me know what you think.
Looks great inside and out and lovely Lexus quality levels. I would happily have one.... in petrol hybrid form.
That sound is… interesting. It’s like an electrified fake LFA in sport mode, at high speed… 😹
Be careful, they have to safety recalls for brake problems.
The external styling is OK but the inside seems very ordinary. A lot of other manufacturers are cleaning up interiors by reducing the button count and having lighter, calmer colour schemes. Lexus on the other hand seems to have loaded the button cannon with every switch they have and fired it at the dash in this car - there is stuff everywhere ! This is starting to look very old to me and I think they need to reboot their design language - the relentlessly black cabin and chaotic ergonomics looks like circa 2005 Toyota.
Please do the new Z when it becomes available for journalists.
Interesting that this is supposed to be a rational vehicle and still so much fun. Pity the charging specs aren't what they should be. A good second car for rich folks I guess....
Middle class people can afford this too. Sure it might take time to save but it’s still within reach. Def not for people used to buying end of life cars in the 2-5k range
@@DeadlyTrust In my country this car starts around € 45.000. Mid-income people can't afford that, provided there's also a family to take care of and a house that goes with a family. As a company lease we're talking about over 600 euro's per month. You can't get that with a mid-income job.
that exterior desaign is really weird
No CCS charging is really bad I think.
Ux300e is a bad ev car, they did it because they had to otherwise it is not well thought for an ev and it is based on petrol versions architecture
Real EV from Lexus it will be the RZ450e
So I recommend to skip this one
Front wheel driven EV 🤦🏼♂️
Sorry but I stopped watching after 5 minutes. This is an epic fail in my opinion or a luxury brand.
Pointless car.
Not really. If you live at home And have solar panels.
This EV never came to the States. And there is a new UX EV coming out with a bigger/better battery pack and that one is also not coming to the States...otherwise I would have bought it
Very weak EV effort as expected from Toyota.
It is a shame cos the car is actually incredibly well done but the range... I actually drove this UXe for the whole day from 100% to 0% and the expected range is no where near what is outlined! You're welcome to watch it and let me know what you think.
Hmmm…the outside is ugly and the inside is a total, dated, mess. Add in poor charging rates and this car is not looking very good. There is a lot to like about Lexus as a brand but they need a massive rethink on design, on technology and driving quality. The UX remains a car I will never bother to look at…very sad.
This should have had the Toyota badge----not up to the Lexus bar.
The charging spec for a 2022 EV is a joke!
Too bad they cocked up the battery range and charging capability.
I actually drove this UXe for the whole day from 100% to 0% and the expected range is no where near what is outlined! You're welcome to watch it and let me know what you think.
Let me preface this by saying I’m a former Lexus owner who had a great ownership experience and generally positive feelings toward the brand.
This car is a complete pile of garbage.
From the terrible FWD platform front overhang to the last-century infotainment, to the Atari-level digital gauges, I mean, Lexus, could you have tried any less with this vehicle? Sheesh.
Don't even start about the range... I actually drove this UXe for the whole day from 100% to 0% and the expected range is no where near what is outlined! You're welcome to watch it and let me know what you think.
This car is a joke for a Lexus name. Rather wait for the RZ450e

Chademo is dead in the U.S.
Toyota makes the best most reliable ICE vehicles in the world. But it doesn’t look like they will survive the transition to EVs. They will end up becoming the Nokia of the auto industry.
Definitely a nice looking vehicle, but Lexus have made several ridiculous choices. The charge ports, the infotainment interface, and overall packaging have doomed it from the start. Back to the drawing board...

Lexus became sooo lazy
A compliance car nobody's going to buy.

They have to prove Hydrogen is the future somehow lol.
Wow, having watched the cockpit overview I'm done with this car already. It's not made for anybody.. young, effective, energetic.. To say the least.
What a crap UX design, bland cockpit with no colours at all, soft touch only at the front? That's not a Lexus.

It is absolutely shameful Lexus has become less premium over the years. I miss the old models with separate rwd based platforms. Now most of their models are just rebadged toyotas... 😭
Most of their models have always been rebadged retuned Toyota platforms
