heres a my opinion: Dio lived a life where he most mostly just used by his father for whatever and he probably didnt have to nicest childhood. He probably wanted to be the one in power, the best. When he got to the joestar home he probably felt like he had an opportunity to shine and be better, but there was Jonathan, someone who was loved, which Dio had never been. He probably felt envious to Jojo deep down, and decided to ruin jojos life. Despite this he did grow up with jojo for a while. The battels that come after this in my opinion is a villains version of arguing with a sibling, only they both had real reasons to hate each other. On the ship when Dio was a head, when Jojo hugged him, he probably felt a attachment, as somewhere inside i think he did love jojo as a brother, this was probably his 1st experience of a relation, after all if you spend a long amount of time with someone you get used to them if you know what I mean . In my opinion at jojo's death Dio, despite looking angry ,had a very human expression. The only person who might ever care for him is dead, but Dio also sees this as a weakness gone, he can move forward, he doesnt need these 'human' emotions. Also in season 3 dio was obsessed with his body *jojo’s* body, it was the last thing he had left.

Watching this actually really made me think about Jonathan’s and DIO’s relationship a lot. I never gave it much thought. I was just like “Oh, he stole his body. Ok.” I can’t really put it into words because I’m not good at putting my feelings into words but now that I really think about it it’s really sad and heartbreaking, you really get to see just how cruel Dio is.
