Not sure if my Dad was in this one. Wally Holmes. He ran for Pompey and trained them too. He made the front of the Radio Times for the Royal Tournament once. Sat on an assembled gun with some others from the crew. He was a trainer that year. I only saw it once. My Auntie kept it. And it happened a few years before I was born so it's all a bit hazy. But he'll forever have my respect for taking part in that amazing tradition. And all of those brilliant competitors from the Senior Service. Thank you for posting this exceptional document.
Tremendous! Have to be honest, this brought a tear to my eye......this was the first year my Dad ran for Guzz, he ran another 2 times and was 2nd and then 1st trainer. Think my Dad, Bill Walker was about 23 here, he's a wheel number...first wheels across, wheel on his left shoulder... Had to give him a quick phone call to tell him.....glad to say he's still with us at 82, not too well, but still here....he's looking forward to seeing this when he's around next (he doesn't have internet!) Awesome, many, many thanks! Oggie! Oggie! Oggie!
Hello Gary I'm glad you enjoyed video of 1957 crew. There are still crew members around so it shows you how fit they were for their futures. I don't know where you live but we have our Heritage Centre Museum at Crownhill Fort, Plymouth AND on Sunday 26 June 2016 we have our very first Junior Field Gun Tournament on the Plymouth Hoe in Armed Forces Weekend, on Sunday. We now have Filed Gun Sport in Schools within the Plymouth area. Come along if you're around? Also if your Dad has anything he wishes to donate to our museum such as old photographs etc. we'd welcome them for our archives. Many thanks for your comments. Dave 'Jan' Dace Devonport Field Gun Association. (You & Dad can be members of our association?) Oggie Oggie Oggie
hi Gary, I also ran in the 1957 crew as flying angle, If you have it right he came from Glasgow. Please tell him Dinky Newlands and Doc Benny was asking about him. I.am now in Australia Doc still lives in Plymouth.
Thanks for posting this. I've followed Devonport Field Gun all my life, and used to go to watch them training and running when I was a kid. It's such a shame that they stopped it.
Many thanks for uploading this footage Dave! not sure where you dug this up from but very pleased to see my late Father Reg Ralph (Portsmouth) running no 10 position on limber, this was my Dad's third time at Earls Court running for Portsmouth in 1949 then 54 and 60 and trainer in 1968, 69, 72 and 73. 1957 was a great year for Portsmouth as they took home all three cups. My Father had some great mates with all commands including Chatham who get a mention! God Bless all true Field Gunners past and present.

Never thought 1957 film would be around now Dave. I was No 4 (Gun Axle and firing off the three rounds for 'Guzz') Many thanks for uploading this....yeah...I'm afraid this happened to be Pompey's year..as Bidakarsa points out. Still. Nice to know we were running on the 'Tan' together.....(his father I mean)
+Harry Beeny Hi Harry, Colin Becerra ask me to contact you re DVDs? I have selection what ones are you interested in? Let me know (dfgawebmaster@btinternet.com) Cheers Dave 'Jan' Dace
Canada used to pit West coast Navy against East coast Navy, good times, used to instill pride. However, I'm thinking of liability issues, it was eventually cancelled. Also our Naval traditions were swept away and I don't think the newbies (or those that came after) had a stomach for it.
Fab photos. Does anyone have any photos of 1961 gun crew at Earls Court. My uncle John Hill was part of that crew and it would be great if there was a record of the event..

Hi, Gary. I'm pretty sure that I knew you and your family - we lived on the same road. My Father was an OA on the staff for several years.
I used to love the Royal Tournament. Im not sure how many times we were taken

I love the Field Gun Competition and it's awesome to see a pre-1980s version.
Has anyone got any pics or footage of Chatham field gun crew 1957. My Dad ran that year and would be great to get something for him to see 😊
My father also ran for Chatham that year. I have a team photo from that year.
