A little about me and this channel:
My name is James Aubrey IV and I just recently graduated college from Iowa State University. After college I decided to take a leap of faith. So I moved to San Diego California to pursue my passion for videography/ UA-cam. Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of UA-cam I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on UA-cam won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. This UA-cam channel will be centered around my life after college. You will be able to see all of the ups and downs on my journey to success. So if you like the content make sure you subscribe so you can be apart of the Rome Life Family. (Let's build our own personal Rome's together.)
What is the Rome Life ? And What does it mean to be apart of it?
Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different

Danny Carey was like 57 years old when this was recorded. Can you imagine having that energy and intensity night after night?! Danny Carey is the master of polyrhythms, able to play a unique and different rhythm with each of his four limbs simultaneously. He is an incredible musician, and when you add Maynard, Adam, and Justin, their music is a transcendental journey.

As someone who really got into tool thanks to this album, the length of tool songs is honestly nice. Listening to mostly EDM the longer than usual " pop/radio cut" length was a refreshing change when i started listening to this genre and finding tool just reinforced that really good music artists are the ones that can play or properly create music thats over 6+ minutes.

A lot of people mentioned the complex polyrhythms, especially during the bridge where he’s playing 4 different rhythms at the same time across the entire kit, as the most impressive part. And they’re right, of course. But to add to that, another thing that makes Danny special as a drummer is his mastery of “dynamics”. You recognized it in part by calling out the softer moments, especially at the end of the song, but Danny does that throughout. He controls the power with which he uses on the drums and cymbals to create musical texture in a way that is unmatched in modern rock music. He transitions from powerful whipping hits to gentle taps with ease, sometimes within the same triplet or double stroke roll. He has incredible control. It’s easy to shift from a loud part to a soft part and back. It’s hard to do that smoothly, or within a drumfill, and it’s damn near impossible to do it with one hand while the other stays the same or shifts in the opposite direction. Danny is the G.O.A.T.

Dude, excellent analysis! I have never heard a better drummer, at least in modern rock music, being 1960s and up. But he's probably just the best drummer in terms of pure mastery and skill, in fact anything, in general. At least for musicians with mass exposure.

I went to a tool show late Jan 2020 I figured Pneuma would be the best drumming part, the crowd would react but I was wrong. I was blown away by the end of 46&2. Soon as Danny finished the song he stood up with his chin on his chest with his hair draping over his face and breathing real hard and it was incredible. The whole stadium cheered for about 2 minutes straight. 46&2 is amazing live. The band has perfected the light show with the song over 25 years and it’s an unique experience compared to the rest. Without a doubt Danny moves his arms around more during the end of that song than compared to any other song. Embraces the Octopus. There was a intermission after this song then played 2 more songs plus chocolate chip trip which is soooo much better live. It’s a whole different sound and beat he’s playing over and he overlaps it at periods and it’s amazing. I hope to see them again.

It's one thing to play accurately at high BPM with difficult fills. It's another entirely to play in awkward time signatures, while doing polyrhythym and still making it sound near-identical to the album performance. I notice that for many who doubt when Carey is mentioned among the greats, it is often times people who can't appreciate the technical skill behind what he's doing, their perspective is just "Drums go brr, but I know lots of drummers".

Danny Carey is one of the, if not the best, drummer that I have listened to in my 40 years on Earth. I am a drummer in a garage band and we just sit around, pull songs out of the air, and jam to. None of us are musicians per se, we just all love music and to play it. I have been a Tool and Danny Carey fan since about 1997. His polyrhythms and time signature changes make him one of the most difficult drummers to cover, which is a cool thing. As much as I feel like I can keep a decent groove, I can't mimic DC. But I will ALWAYS be impressed with his fills, time signature changes (as a band as a whole), and his sound samples that he plays. So many good Tool songs to plug, but from a Danny standpoint, Pneuma, H., Schism, and Eulogy are some of my all time favorites to listen to from a drumming/percussion standpoint.

Honestly tho, it's not something you do for adoration or fame or whatever. I can't stop drumming (to the dismay of my loved ones) and that type of dedication to the craft of drumming is my reason to get out of bed in the morning. There are only two people I'd put anywhere near Danny Carey in terms of skill, specifically within the metal genre, and that is Tomas Hakke of Meshuggah, and Mario Duplantier of Gojira. And even then, as good as they are, they aren't as good as Danny.

Best thing for me on this song isn't how insanely impressive his technical skills are (can't form words for this), but how he actually manipulates his timing near the end to keep in sync with the other b mates while still maintaining the complex rhythm. Truly showcasing the power of a great drummer that plays WITH the band.

I love that they’ve continued to move into a more prog-metal style with all the 10-15 minute songs on Fear Inoculum (I’m an attorney, and I always listen to this album whenever I need to really concentrate on work, as it has a calming effect that helps me focus).

The next impressive thing, if you notice, is how calm he is behind his drum set. He has perfect posture and is just mellow while destroying it.

'Pushit'. I caught Tool in 1992 along with Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Rage Against the Machine. Rage and Tool caught my ear because of how different they were.
Tool caught my ear differently first because of Maynard's voice and power. And then I listened again... The whole bands 'cohesiveness' was on a different level, how they played their own parts, but to each other.
And I listened a little closer. When their second album came out, I was intrigued by the extended intros (4° comes to mind), and the build up. When their third album came out, that second drum solo on Pushit blew my mind! '46&2' was another one along with 'Eulogy'. But definitely check out 'Pushit', and then listen again.
