As an Irish alum, I would love to see the Irish play Penn St, Miami, Indiana or Tennessee at ND. Notre Dame would obliterate Penn St. They have no offense, they are predictable and they haven't beaten anyone. They wouldn't be able to contain NDs offense. NDs athletes are superior.
As a Penn State alum I disagree! If that was the case PSU would have lost to a mediocre team like Northern Illinois. I think they also forget that Notre Dame’s SOS is 78 compared to PSU’s 32. If we look at SOR PSU is 4 and Notre Dame is 10. They talked about game control Notre Dame is 6 and PSU is 14. So PSU with a tougher schedule and record and we talking about a game control difference of 8 teams. This is just the data, do they look better right now? Sure, they aren’t playing any competitive teams if you ask me.
I think saying, Asu has not been consistent is a little unfair considering one of our two losses our starting quarterback was out and was away against Cincinnati
pertaining to the last second td - That was a message to IU’s coach. He went to IU’s basketball rally and talked sh*t saying OSU sucks. If you can talk that mess you’d better back it up
SOS has to consider where the games was played. Winning at home vs ranked team is equivalent to losing on the road to unranked team. Also, winnning a non-conference road game against any ranked teams is equivalent to winning at home vs number 1 ranked. Also, how can a team ONLY have 4 of their 12 games on the road (like Indiana)...while other teams have 6 road games, including multiple road games vs ranked teams. There are 12 ranked (or 6+ wins) teams playing on the road vs 6+wins team this week: Notre Dame, Miami, MEM, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Tenn, MICH, ARK, CAL, TEX, WAS, ASU. The road teams will win max of 4 of 12...not because the other team is better, but because the other team is playing at home. Do, a check on the 12 teams above...I bet 8 or 9 or MORE of the above 12 teams will LOSE. Also, some conferences like Big Ten and SEC just have higher pre-season rankings, so all their teams get the benefit of stronger SOS....based solely on opinions.
Strange to mention the mediocre schedule of Penn State, but then give Notre Dame a complete pass and to glow up a win over an Army team that played even less competition than anybody on the board.
Hey, when Chicago Bulls went 72-10, they lost to Toronto Raptors (21-61), it's not as simple as: "if team A beats team B and team A loses to everyone else, then team B will also lose to everyone else too".....losses happens, a good team bounces back. I believe that Notre Dame will end up losing to USC this week because the game is at USC, but one can't take an outlier and use that to justify a full season.
I don’t get this Clemson is in over SMU if they lose the ACCCG narrative. First off, record vs common opponents. We know the committee values this when comparing 2 teams from the same conference that are close to each other. They have 5 common opponents. SMU is 5-0 against them and Clemson is 4-1. Clemson lost to Louisville at home by 12 while SMU beat Louisville by 7 on the road. Point margin against common opponents. Clemson is +51 and SMU is +112. SMU has actually outscored common opponents with Clemson in every single game. Wins against P4 bowl eligible teams currently. Clemson has 1, SMU has 5. SMU made the conference championship game and Clemson didn’t. For losses, Clemson got blown out by Georgia and lost by double digits to Louisville (who SMU beat). Only regular season loss for SMU would be likely 10-2 BYU in the top 20 (assuming BYU wins as a favorite over Houston). SMU’s 2nd loss would be in an extra game in the conference championship to a top 5 team (Miami likely moves from 6 into top 5 after beating SMU). SOR currently: Clemson is 18 and SMU is 9. FPI currently: Clemson is 14 and SMU is 12.
Hey, the most important thing is where the game was played. I bet SMU's game was at home and the ONE loss by Clemson (among the common teams) was probably on the road.
@@austinfrancis9723 That's a silly analysis to make in this situation/hypothetical of both winning out when one of the teams (Clemson) has more losses and one of their losses (Louisville) is to a team that the other team beat.
Umm, the Big 12 is only 3 years older than the Mountain West conference.... What kind of argument is the age of the conference anyway in favor of finding the best team to go to a playoff anyway? Great analysis right there....
The system needs some fine tuning when all the talking heads are saying it’s better to be third than to get into the championship game. Maybe more conference games so there’s not 6-8 teams tied for the title game too
Without even knowing who is going to play the 4 1st round playoff games, I will confidently say that all 4 of the home teams will win. If the road teams switched to being the home team then the switched home teams will win. It is embarrasing to have a road game in "playoff" when the ranking is purely SUBJECTIVE and winning a road game vs a ranked non-conference team is almost impossible. I would say that teams ranked 5th to 12 th would beat teams ranked 1 to 4 at home.
so what everyone is saying about carolina, ole miss and bama is. 1 team has 3 ranked wins in the past 5 weeks 2 teams lost to unranked, losing record teams this past weekend if carolina beats clemson and ole miss and bama beat their rivals, carolina should jump even from the head to head. if bama and ole miss beat unranked and horrible teams and carolina beats another top 20 team and ole miss and bama are still ahead even after almost 2 months of time from the games. where both ole miss and bama have lost 48-20 last week. are we taking the best teams NOW, or are we still thinking about the beginning of 2 months ago.
It's annoying that every week we just forget more and more how absolutely horrific losing Northern Illinois is. Notre Dame should just be happy to be in the top 10 and quit complaining!!
ASU is on a mission! Expected to finish at the bottom of the Big12 week 1 and controlled our own fate, just beat UofA for the Territorial Cup 🏆 and we'll be alright. #GoDevils 🔱
Notre Dame has the worst SOS in the top 17 outside of Boise State. They have played nobody. They have an ugly loss to NIU. PSU and A&Ms win are comparable.
The fact is, almost none of the top 15 teams has played anybody.... and almost all the top teams have losses when they have played anybody on the road.
OVERRATED ALL OF THE SEC! Texas played no one. only ranked team was Georgia and lost badly... HMM Sounds like Indiana? How does Georgia move up to 7 when JUST 2 weeks ago got Blew out 28-10 by an Ol'Miss team that just lost to Florida? And their QB had 14 turnovers in 6of last 8 weeks? Ol'Miss Blew them out! I could understand keeping them up if they lost to top 5 team but this just SEC BIAS!!!
It was a neutral game- so, yes, it means beating an undefeated team at neutral site---and yes, that does mean something....the records of all the teams are really dependent on where they play the games...and any neutral or road games are worth a holler...
If the bracket played out the way it did it would be Ohio State and Penn State rematch. Penn States only hard team would be Texas and Ohio State would edge Oregon.
@dfausti66 depending on what bsu team shows up the one vs oregon wazzu and unlv good luck, the team that played Nevada and Wyoming, big 12 will cream that boise state team

I like that point about the Big 12 and namely inconsistency conference wide. Great Point!
Only reason Miami didn’t lose at its very least California was the ACC refused to let them lose. And the Big 12 is the better conference of the two.
Two words: Northern Illinois.
