I have had mine 996 for 10 months now and spent 10.000,- already. New gearbox, new gear shifter and cables, all water pipes, refurbished four BBS rims and new tires. But for me it’s all investments. Keep on and hope you find yourself a new 996 soon👍🏻
They are great cars and still a 911 when all is said & done. Just because folk had bad things to say about the headlights means they became more accessible for us. Assuming you have power to the roof motors and switch, if you have a leaky roof the motors may have seized or cables rotted through but you could try winding the motors by hand to check. For the leak, there is a seal across the back of the retracting glass roof that has a drain pipe into each drain channel. This drain pipe folds into a Z shape when the roof opens and if you climb into the back seat then pull the front section of the curtain away you will see it. They get stressed by the constant folding and mine have both broken off completely which wetted the back seats and seat belts but not so much the floor so I have rigged up a temp fix for now but I have figured a way of fixing it without having to replace the full seal which is a costly glass out job. Make sure the drains are clear front and back and also the 4 No drains in the bulkhead area around and under the battery tray
I've owned a Turbo for a year now and it's cost £16 for a reg/rect for the alternator which I fitted, that's it I think. Like all cars , you've got to buy a good one , it looks like yours has been owned by someone that probably in effect couldn't afford it so used it to death and sold it. Still, get it fixed up and you know what you've sorted and you'll have a good car. Boxster, Cayman and now a Turbo 996 , they're fantastic machines , we've been all over Europe in ours with no trouble at all. You could times that bill by 10 if it was a same era Ferrari.
Great & interesting content. You now own outright a nice appreciating classic, with maintenance, preventative or otherwise up to date. Buy a Mustang for what Porsche is worth ? but not in the same league. I run a Eunos, so not as ambitious as you.
If you can rock that hairstyle you can do anything

TBT older 911 do better in coupé form, but from 991 on the cabriolet variant is much much more money. Cheers from Italy!
