- Diesels are finally here, sort of. Now that we have the low-sulfur fuel, manufacturers have responded with vehicles that even the great state of California will allow on its hallowed highways.

I have a TDI with 400,000 km on it and it still runs great.
how is it now?
@@krempo997 xD
I'm stunned. If you bought a VW TDi....even 3 years ago, it was quite noisy, but these new ones are so quiet, it's incredible.
Mine is 2008 3.0tdi 370,000km and still rocks
This car is even more better than the new rivals suvs
Very nice control for that height and weight. I have the V6, not a bullet but plenty of power. You can afford all the situations with this car. Big interiors for you family and stuff, great AC. Fuel consumption is high but the performance balance is good.
The V10 was nice but put the Touareg in the $75,000 range. The V6 application works very well. A fully loaded TDI Touareg is in mid-50's here. Quite a savings over the V10 and much more reasonable as a daily driver.
tomandsuehunter1 I agree and I own a 2005 V10
That is damn plenty fast for a 2.3tonne truck with a diesel
Fuel economy, high levels of torque - much higher than gasoline engines, most of the power available at low rpm, very quiet (new ones). In other words they're good for highway cruising.
Diesels are not bad..... they KICK ASS :D
Having 200hp from a 2.0 and averaging 6l/100km=WIN.
performs not only well for an SUV, but especially well for a diesel SUV
I drove a Ford Mondeo when I was in the UK. 6 speed diesel - man i want that much low end torque again! Wish there were more diesels in Canada.
Southern California, last time I filled up diesel was 2.69 and regular was 3$
I think you need to listen closely in this video. #no noise# 3ltr and the 5ltr tdi can be mistaken for a petrol car, very quite. The only noise you hear is the turbo spooling and the sound of the petrol car behind over-revving trying to keep up. #Diesel Power#
Not bad. Its less than half a second slower than the V8. And its not too expensive, it can be yours for about $42 grand. A diesel is fine in an SUV like this, but those people saying that it should be in every type of car are mistaken.
Surely it would've made more sense to test the V10???
for your driving style, a diesel would suit you best. diesels are durable and brawny, suited to highway driving. like the bmw 335d. gets 36 mpg on the highway, yet goes from 0-60 in 6 seconds.
Hells yea dude im with u on that one!
I love my car
I have a jetta tdi, I love it! diesel is cheaper than gasoline and the fuel economy is just an added bonus.
Actually, I know a guy who services his 240 in my friend's service and it'll have 3,000,000 km on it soon.
It means the car is allowed to roll forward one foot before the timer starts.
Perfect car
Yes, and it's a real damn shame.
A friend of mine had one of these old Mercedes' for a few years, damn thing seemed indestructible.
The new diesels are quite durable, too.
There's no way they will last 3,000,000 km's, but if used properly, they can serve you for a long, long time ;)
Wouldn't it make more sense to use the V10 diesel for this test?
Over 400,000 km on my TDI.
I've got a 11,000 miles on a jetta TDI, it is an interesting vehicle.
The R50 would be a lot of fun if they imported a few to the US
thats a problem in the us though. in europe 87% of all sold SUVs are diesels and about 49% of cars are diesels.
Well not bad acceleration to 60 but you should test the Q7 V12 TDI.
i will buy one one day
@junglist1soldier
Check your facts bud, the diesel engine was invented by Rudolf Diesel in the late 1890's. Then engine was originally run on Peanut oil, not our current diesel fuel.
've walked into a v8 performance is Very Good Puch and strong
i think they will
Southwest Michigan is about 40 to 50 cents per gallon cheaper.
they need to throw one of those diesel v6's in a GTI
goood gooooodddd touareg
In my country a diesel is cheap to turn coz diesel here is far cheaper than gasoline... besides the diesel tdis sound better
They let the car "roll" a foot before flooring the throttle
@Airox2009 There are two things that can make even the worst quality turbo work for life. Allow the engine to idle before and after moving and use a good quality fully synthetic engine oil. Apart from that there is absolutely no problem with diesel engines. You get all the power, torque with the fuel economy. Reliability is not an issue with the modern diesel engines. Trust me, i have a lot of experience :-)
@vdubmahn The v8 TDI is more powerful, faster, lighter, and more efficient than the v10, why keep it?
this is the 6 cylinder. You are talking about the V-10 buddy.
volkswagen makes such great diesel engines we need more clean diesel engines in america. way more efficient than gasoline
Anyone know what the MPG's are on this diesel?
the ford gt is hardly american. steering came from the aston martin vanquish, the gearbox was german, the suspension and chassis was developed by lotus, and the brakes and wheels were italian. and the viper acr's chassis is german as well.
they shouldn't have gotten rid of the v10
besides the fact that the v10 would be Much heavier and more sluggish in the higher end, which diesel engines dont have much of anyway.
caleb levy it's much heavier (I think about 300 kilos more) but much faster everywhere. It's power to weight ratio is way better than the V6s.
yes this is the same 3.0 tdi ;]
Diesels are durable but turbos, filters, sensors and other things on them are not. They're generally too complicated these days.
I didn't say that. I'm just saying that cars like good ol' Mercedes with diesels lasting 3,000,000 kilometers aren't built anymore.
Londo Mollari if you improve performance dramatically, which they did, it's only natural that reliability will suffer. The good ol'Mercedes diesel had less than a third of todays diesel's HP figures and of course less torque as well.
i'd test it against the hyundai santa fe crdi
probably fast diesel suv
need the v10 =D
This thing weights almost 2,5 tons... so for it's size the performance is sweet.
I own a Dodge Caliber 2.0 TDI(european version with a german engine), 1500 kilos, 185HP(!!!!), 0-60 in less than 8 secs, and averages 6l/100 km(less than fucking hybrids!)
When you compare this to the retarded prehistoric engines USA is producing, these figures are like from Star Trek.
Sad, but true...
I'm glad someone already the Audi R10 TDi, that thing is stupid fast, and yes it's diesel.
European car technology is just at a completely different technological level than american, almost saddens me...
i will still get the duramax Gm vehicle
it's the best german offroader for me...
Diesel engines will soon take out gasoline engines, as they should have in the beginning. They last longer, less maintenance, & now, they're cleaner, & more efficient. Thanks to Mercedes Benz for inventing the Diesel Engine!
I'll be buying my first Brand new Vehicle, which will for sure be a Turbo Diesel. The GTI is QUICK!My first choice is the ML420 or 320 Bluetec, 2nd is VW.I should have test drove this model.Got to go drive it for sure now.BIODIESEL is the FUTURE FUEL!
what are the advantages of a diesel engine???
I dont get why this country wont allow the V10 tdi to be sold here? so what if it pollutes a little more.
Sure, the gasoline engine rather than the physical limit to exceed the 5500 or 6000rpm as have the diesel. Only the diesel engine built by Ricardo Engineering for the 24h LeMans can overcome this natural limit. But was a experimental racing engine 6.0 Lt V10 40v Twin Turbo piezo injectors 600/700bhp At 6500rpm and this engine haved never won a race.Only the V12 TDI installed in the Audi R10 haved won in all the world.
a 335d is very small? dude, what the hell?
do you drive with your entire furniture to work?
why the hell would you need a 7 meter long v8 truck to drive to work?
I've been to the states several times, and i saw housewives drive their HUMMERS to work.
Diesels are the best engines in the world when it comes to long highway driving.
On the highway,driving at 150 km/h my 2.0 TDI averages 4-5l/100 km.
And,for some odd reason,if you didn't notice, european cars despite being smaller, are more spacious.
show me a 2.0 litre duramax engine with 200hp that needs 6l/100 km, or a 3.0 duramax engine with 290 hp that burns 8L/100 km.
Id test it against the porsche cayenne.
.80g? en mexico logra .90g =D
yup, it's 2009 and making complicated tech is a bad idea.
Let's stick to huge gas-guzzlers ;)
just so you know these test numbers aren't very good...
Idk, my dad's X5 diesel is boring and heavy.
Me pesonally
I have an experience with this car (2007)
Its heavy, very noisy. Although, feels good.
didn't try off road .
overall don't buy one .
That car is more than 30 year old.
that thing is slow as shit my duramax would out run it pulling one of those
whatever
@2hisk0
You really need to get yourself out of your cave and go drive a modern diesel. There are absolutely no comprimises in a diesel compared to a gasoline powered car or light truck. Try it you'll like it.
Not exactly fast.
