  • Please visit us at: botanyboy.org/ Tenmangu Shrine in Dazaifu, Japan on the island of Kyushu is home to a lovely Japanese iris flower garden. A large iris pool (2,500 square meters) is home to 55 different varieties of Iris enstata, known as hanashoubu in Japan, with an estimated total of 30,000 flowering stems! In the Japanese system 4 major groups are seen at this garden: the Higo group from Kumamoto, the Edo group from Tokyo, the Ise group from Mie, and the Nagai group from Nagai, Yamagata. The pool is also home to a variety of hydrangeas, koi carp, and turtles. Come along and check out another wonderful Japanese flower garden.

Iris - Japan: beautiful flowers and beautiful country. I have seen a lot of flowers but i dont know why i still love iris the most, it's has many different colors and i think purple is the best one for me. I really appreciate the person who made it. 🤗

I'm happy you enjoyed them! The naturally growing forms of I. ensata probably would remind you of other water iris. These have been selectively bred to a very high level over the last few hundred years.

Thanks for watching! Japanese growers have learned to take a species of plant and just go nuts creating as many forms as possible. You see that in so many plants here - iris, hydrangea, many orchid species, and even ferns. The effort and dedication needed is pretty impressive.

Ensata is my favorite iris by far, the most graceful and elegant. Alas, living in high desert, it's not a good option in my garden. One can live vicariously through this video, though. Gorgeous photography...

Yes, there are many! That is what Japanese growers do - take one plant and make as many different types as they can.

Thanks for watching! Flower viewing in Japan is a highly evolved art, so I'm lucky to have a lot of gardens and events around me. I'll be posting a hydrangea garden video soon at another local shrine.

I barely do anything to mine and they are spreading to capacity. I never knew they can handle so much water. But I see they have them contained, because if they didn't..OH BOY would they spread.
