    When I go to ThinkorSwim, it wants to open a type of account, IRA, Roth, individual, etc. How do I find just the paper trading simulated trading platform? If I eventually want to trade with my Roth should I just open that type of account?

      Happy to clarify! On the thinkorswim login screen, make sure to select "paperMoney" at the bottom of the pop-up window before entering your login credentials. Then just log in with your normal Schwab credentials. And when you're ready to log into your Roth, just select "Live Trading" in the same area of the login pop-up window before entering your credentials. Once you're in, all of your householded Schwab accounts can be accessed through a drop-down menu at the top of the platform. That's it! Enjoy! ^CM

      @@tradertalkswebcasts Thank you. However, I don't believe this didn't answer my questions. Maybe I wasn't clear. Ok, since I wrote the original post, I figured out to find and download the ThinkorSwim program. However, I don't have any of the broker accounts associated with ThinkorSwim. Do I need one? If so, should I open a Roth IRA as that is the account $ I will eventually want to use. Can I open with $0 money? I won't likely start trading for some time. I want to paper trade for awhile.

      @@tradertalkswebcasts This is what I was looking for. I was expecting that all these steps would be shown in this video. It's a beginner video, right? Show the different login scenarios for the accounts and how to toggle back and forth. Also explain the different options for the account setup so users can make the right choice of account. I didn't see a video explaining these things so I selected individual account. I still don't know how to access simulated trading account after watching several videos. I was excited that this video would explain it but I was wrong.

      Glad to help! On the Monitor page and while viewing specific account, click "Adjust account," and then follow the on-screen prompts. I hope this helps, and thanks for watching! ^CM

      @@tradertalkswebcasts I don't see "Adjust account" anywhere on the monitor page. I have opened all tabs in the monitor page and nowhere says that. I think you should use a fresh account to make your videos if you are making videos for beginners not an already existing account which has different interface from first time users. My interface is very different from yours and I don't know how to navigate pass my questions. The learning center also does not address this very basic things which are the very foundation that first timers will build on.

    So bizarre: would be nice to know how to switch to Simulated trading; your vid starts out w/o that explanation and there is NO option on the main app to switch.

      Happy to clarify! When you first launch thinkorswim Desktop, you can choose "paperMoney" at the bottom of the login pop-up screen before entering your security credentials. Thanks for watching! ^CM

    So, if one has acquired TOS under TDA, do we now have to delete that and upgrade to the same tool under CS?
    Personally, I have lost the login and password anyway so thought that would be the way to proceed.

      You can download the most-recent version of thinkorswim from the Trade tab in your Schwab online account, and then just log in using your Schwab username and password. That should do it! Enjoy! ^CM

    Hi. I'm new to TOS and working my way through the desk top version of the app. I'm noticing things I can do on the live side of the app that you can't do on the paper trade side. Is there a place that details the differences and also is there a place that explains the values required for the scan engine. So far I'm enjoying your videos. Thanks. George

      Welcome to the thinkorswim experience, George. I'm certainly happy to help. 1. Yep, there are a few differences between the live platform and paperMoney, but I'm not aware of a video that explicitly addresses each of these distinctions. I may need to add that to my Future Webcast Ideas list. 2. As for the Scan tool, you may want to check out my video, "Understanding the thinkorswim Scan Tab": ua-cam.com/video/2pamlISNOmU/v-deo.html. Enjoy! ^CM

    does the thinkorswim paper trading account allow you to practice extended hours trading?

    • @tradertalkswebcasts
      @tradertalkswebcasts  5 місяців тому

      Happy to clarify! The PaperMoney platform permits practice trading with almost all of thinkorswim's normal functions, but this is one of the rare exceptions: Simulated trading of extended hours markets is not available. I hope this helps, and thanks for watching! ^CM

      Very sorry to hear this. Real-time information is available on thinkorswim, and I do not experience regular slowness while using it. You may want to call Support at 800-435-4000 if the issue persists. And in any event, thanks for watching! ^CM

      Thanks for the suggestion! I always try to proceed at a pace that everyone can follow, but I do sometimes fall short of the preferences of some viewers. With that said, you may be able to adjust for this with a tweak of UA-cam's playback speed for my video. To do this, just point at the video display while watching the archive, click the gear/Settings icon in the lower right, click "Playback speed," and select a speed less than 1. And if I ever talk too slowly, just speed me up! I hope this helps, and thanks for watching! ^CM
