I looked everywhere for this cartoon; I even started to wonder if I had dreamed it up!! I had "Timmy No Tail" stuck in my head, which didn't help! XD

This was one of my childhood favourites! I am now enjoying it again decades later with my 4 year old daughter. Glad she loves it as much as I did. Thank you :)

My childhood favourite. But oh god yes, I thought that just now, the music is sinister as well...
Also I never realised the cartoon is Swedish and all that "Blaming the Russians". Stuff you just wouldn't notice as a kid.

The opening sequence and tune to this movie are just as I remember them from when I watched it as a kid on the Disney Channel around 1989 or 1990. I'm an adult now but if that channel was now still like it was then I'd still be watching it since (as countless other youtube reviewers have pointed out) the channel was worthwhile then unlike now and it offered things for ALL ages and personalities!
I used to watch this show on Disney Channel in the U.S. during the 80’s. Such memories! 💕

I remember renting this when I was around 4 years old. It was a good show at least for a 4 year old perspective to tell the truth I can't remember anything other the snake helping him with the numbers and I think a race at the end.

I remember HBO played this movie all the time back in the early 1980's. Peter actually does has a tail, he is a bobtail kitty :D

Odd film but eerily enigmatically enjoyable
This was my favorite cartoon movie when I was a kid but the character voices are different voice actors.
When the man Ask what happened to the kittens tail the farmer said I think the rats got it the other man said and chuckled the rats got it!
OHHH!!! I saw this one with my sister when we were little!!!!! Course, we saw it in Danish, but regardless *high pitch squeal!* Thank you for sharing!!!

i remember peter no tail it was one of my favorite movies as a kid it came on every 4th of july but i don't remember this version the one i saw all the cats walked and talked ane peter was trying to find a way to make his tail grow

@MrSchweden I read the books in Finnish when I was kid. I used to borrow a high pile of books from the library bus visiting our school. Books about cats (and Pekka Töpöhäntä (Pelle Svanslös/Peter No-Tail)) on the top of it. Any movies I don't remember to see before I was about a teenager, when I saw the Finnish dub of that Cat Olympics movie.

I seem to remember an American cast dub that played on the Disney channel around 1990-92.
You can buy this on ebay and the sequel as well on DVD! It's only a couple of quid as well...

Oh I loved this as a child! I'd worn the tape out from watching it again and again. I had the American localization though, so the British voices, dialog and song lyrics don't match up with my memories.... which is actually more disorienting then I'd have expected. Still a fantastic memory trip to a more innocent time.

@ACruelPicture No, I think the translator(s) made lyrics about the family father going home from the countryside place. I have seen the movie in Swedish many times before, and I can tell that they messed up the English version, considering the script. However, the voices aren't that bad.

@simonstadin What is the song about in the Swedish version? The American English version is about how Peter wants a tail! And the overall movie is more politically correct while being Amero-centric (giving no indication that it takes place in Sweden!). Was this movie popular in Sweden?
