The skill of MSD is while catching the ball, his hands don't recoil. It is practiced. Most other wicketkeepers naturally move hands back about 5-6 inches before they start the forward movement to stumps. Dhoni saves precious microseconds and takes his scalp. That's a true genius.

You can stand anywhere. Over the line, behind the line, on the line, wherever you want. But you will get out if you are over the line when the keeper/fielder hits the wicket with the ball. Batsman move out of the line to counter the length at which the ball is going to pitch and to get into the correct head and feet position to play a shot.

You can stand anywhere. You can hit from anywhere. As long as you do not get out. The type of delivery from the bowler determines the position of the batsman as he attempts to defend his wicket and possibly score some runs from it.

  • @adityaunde4134
    @adityaunde4134 Рік тому +6

    The line is called crease.
The batsman has to stand at least having his one foot inside the crease. After the bowler throws his delivery, its batsman's choice to step forward or play backfoot. He decides it by the type of the ball he receives.
Stepping forward can give you extra power for hitting big shots but it comes with a risk of getting stumped by the wicket keeper.
Fun fact - Dhoni was a good goalkeeper in Soccer during his school time but the sports teacher suggest him to do wicket keeping instead.

To your question, the batter does not have to be outside the line to hit. The reason they get out is to bring the momentum to the ball. I guess that in baseball the speeds are around 100 mph so the ball has enough momentum. But for the spinners, the speeds are around 50mph. So to hit the ball farther, the batter charges outside the line to get enough momentum. Also the action of hitting the ball itself might get your feet outside the line with the momentum of the body.

When the baller releases the ball, as a Batter, you can
    1) Stand inside the line (the line is called Crease)
    2) Stand straddling the crease (most common stance)
    3) Stand totally outside the crease (sometimes as a power move to scare the baller)
But... Once the ball is released and is 'live' ,if you are outside the crease, the fielder (wicketkeeper is a special kind of fielder only) can hit the wickets causing you to get 'run out' (called 'stumping' if done by the wicketkeeper immediately after you miss the ball and it goes to him).
Batters also come forward to get the momentum for the swing, allow the ball less time to spin or even to catch the ball before it hits the ground. In fact it's one of the recommended ways to tackle a 'yorker' delivery where the ball that was coming for the batter's toes is hit as a 'fulltoss' around knee level i.e. before it reaches 'toe' level. It's a high risk high reward move.

The box is called a popping crease which is around 1.2 meters parallel to the stump line. A batsman can hit the ball from anywhere on the pitch. However, If they miss or when they run runs, they need to be inside the crease before the wicketkeeper or the fielders hit the stumps in order to be called not out.

The batsman does not have to be over the line to hit the ball. All of these are the instances of wickets, so obviously you will see them crossing the line. Usually batsman stands inside the line and the reason they step out or lean forward is to reach the ball where it lands so that u can meet the ball before it starts to spin or swing.

A batter uses his footwork based on where the ball is pitched by the bowler. Stumpings are “mostly” done when a spinner is bowling. The batsman always try to be within the line against a spinner. Cricket is a lot about footwork. Sometimes batsmen lose balance while hitting the ball on front foot. And in the process if they miss the ball, the keeper can collect the ball and dislodge the stumps with the ball in his hands. If some part of the foot of batter is inside the white line then he/she is not out. If foot is outside or on the line, it is out.
Against fast bowlers usually batsmen stand outside the white line as keeper doesn’t stand near to the stumps. So chances of stumping is almost zero.
But as you can see in the video Dhoni stood up to the stumps against a pace bowler as well.

  • @jeevnandhin28687

8:59 the batsman can be anywhere from the line within the batting pitch area while playing the ball be it behind or over the line but he needs to ne behind the line before anyone could clean the stumps. Good question! The reason they go over the line sometimes is science. They go over the line mostly for big shots so When u go for a big shot u accelerate urself just like pace bowlers and steo forward a but more than usual.

  • @gauthamvadlamudi3500

The batsman can stand wherever they want. But at their own risk of getting stumpedout.
They can even stand at any position, any angle, any posture they want, even block the view of the wickets as well, as long as they take care they don't block the ball trajectory, before the wickets, with their body and let the ball hit their body while being in the trajectory of hitting the wickets (LBW out).
They can be anywhere on or over or inside the crease while hitting.
And when the bowlers bowl the ball, based on the trajectory, length (location of the bounce of the ball) the batsman has to navigate to a suitable position to hit the ball properly, with an appropriate shot suitable for that type of ball (spin, speed, bouncing length, line etc).
So the footwork in cricket is very much important for a batsman as even before hitting the ball, the batsman moves to a position to hit the ball, with foot movements like front foot, back foot, sideways etc.
That's for gaining advantage in hitting the ball.
Also this free movement of the batsman makes the lives of the bowlers difficult as the batsman can move anywhere to hit the ball.. unlike stationary batter in baseball.
But good bowlers also use it to their advantage by tricking the batsmen by luring them frontfoot (outside the crease) and having an unexpected spin or swing on the ball to make it miss the bat and get the batsman stumped out.
Even the same reason hitting the ball is very different from baseball, as the bowler can legally throw the ball anywhere infront of the batsman within one {arm + bat } length... And bounce the ball anywhere in any trajectory, in any line, at any height, even towards the body of the batsman... Which makes it challenging for batsman not only scoring runs bur simultaneously defending the wickets behind and their own bodies as well.

  • @divineaccess2437

The batsman can stand anywhere he wants - inside the crease, on the crease, outside the crease. The position/stance the batsman takes is based on how he thinks he is going to counter a certain delivery. For example a batsman can go deep inside the crease or stand outside to counter a yorker. There is no such rule that batsman has to step out of the line to hit a ball. Front foot shots, where batsman steps out is done generally to reach the pitch of the ball for best timing on the shot or to counter spin. Similarly there are backfoot shots, where the batsman goes deep inside the crease to allow more time to play a short delivery.

A batsman can stand anywhere. But when a spinner or a medium pacer bowls the wicket keeper comes up to the stump hence its always sensible for a batsman to stand behind or have one foot behind the crease to avoid stumping. In case of a fast bowler the wicket keeper's are far away from the stumps hence the batsmen have an option of standing outside the crease. The batsman also opts for it depending on the condition of the pitch- whether its bouncy or staying low.

There is no such rules like batsman has come out of the line necessarily to hit the ball , but batsman do this so that they can get the better elevation and power and momentum so that they can score more , when batman plan to get agressive they step out of the line so that they can get to the ball where pitching to avoid turn

It's not mandatory to cross the line to hit the ball. You can hit the ball as you can, but if you cross the line you must back into the line before keeper hit the wicket with the ball. You can hit the ball staying in the box or crossing the line, it's batsman's choice how he wants to hit the ball. But whenever you cross the line you must return to the line otherwise opponent players can hit the wickets and then you are out.
Even in "RUN OUT" batsman must cross the line before opponent players hit the wicket with the ball..

Hope you also get the fact that the person supposed to tell if the batsman is OUT or not doesn't gets his answer and also does not gives his decision right away instead he takes a review on it, Only MS Dhoni tells he's OUT on that speed. 😂

The batsman can always be inside the line, they move out to get a better opportunity to hit a ball, and sometimes gets stumped.

You can stand anywhere and hit from anymore. But u should be back behind the line if u miss and the catcher does collect it on the follow through

At least one foot behind or on the line to be safe. Standing in front of the wickets is a must. And wickets should be visible to the bowler.

There's no rigid rule about where a batsman should stand. Before the ball is bowled, he can stand between the stumps and that line, or on that line, or even outside the line. However once the ball is bowled and it reaches a fielder/wicketkeeper he should be behind the line otherwise the fielder/wicketkeeper can break his stumps to dismiss him.

No rules about where they can stand. Batsmen can stand anywhere but needs to be behind the line(called Crease) before a fielder can take the bails off.

You have to be in the line,
They step over the line to hit a big shot but it may go wrong, like this stumping.
