The scene with Sephiroth at the Edge of Creation is interesting because it starts off with him staring at the ground, lost in thought, as if reminiscing about his past. Perhaps this is a visual representation of the moment in On the Way to a Smile where Sephiroth is about to cast away the memories of his life. He takes one last internal stroll down memory lane, then looks up at the Universe of Death, ready to move on to his new form. Also, if the Sephiroth that we see at the Edge of Creation is the one that still has his memories, that might explain why he uses "ore" in the Japanese version of the scene.
Interesting thought. I do think the Edge of Creation Sephiroth is related to the memories of his more human side that he cast away into the lifestream going against Meteor as he mentions in the book.
Brother you are doing the lords work 🙏 Not many people can address the power creep but the fact that you have makes you one of the few privy to the details of Ever Crisis, solidifying you a seat to discussions leading up to part 3 remake. I look forward to the next time you all gather around to talk theories
Sephiroth is dealing with a lot of regret now. I think perhaps he believes that what they did in Rhadore was wrong and regrets his actions and especially after hearing Rosen's words still resonating with him to this day and will probably haunt him until his last days. With all of this coming about I'm starting to feel the bubble of Redemption return for Sephiroth. One way that may truly stop Sephiorth is to discover his past and confront him with it. My guess would be how the trilogy could potentially end is Sephiroth overcoming Jenova's control and looking over the wasted years of all the sins he has committed and in a lucid break from Jenova he decides he will stop Jenova once and for all even if it kills him thus atoning for his sins and being able to finally be accepted back into the lifestream. The potential for his old buddies Genesis and Angeal to help him in his last attempt may also happen. Ultimately I think the final job of sealing the deal will fall on Cloud and Zack with their friends. How it will all end is anyone's guess but now this is where I'm leaning. I know the devs said they would link to Advent Children but right now I just don't see how it plays out the exact same way.
I agree, I want a redemption arc so bad for him, he deserves so much better! So many people are against it and I will never understand that. And perhaps I'm wrong, but I think the devs said that advent children is linked to remake trilogy, so it doesn't necessary mean it leads into it. They wanted people to watch the movie before rebirth by bringing it back in theater, so why do that? I personally think remake trilogy happens after advent children, but I could be wrong.
@@bonni4493 I don't think you're wrong, I think the trilogy is a sequel, it happens after Dirge of Cerebus in my opinon. I wouldn't mind a Redemption arc but they would need to do it near the end and it would have to be carefuly written.
Sephiroth in the Edge of Creation is interesting. Canonically Sephiroth lost most of his memories when he fell into the lifestream, like he literally had to fixate on one particular memory in order to bring himself back, which seems to have been both his fear of death and his hatred of Cloud for killing him. This suggests Sephiroth is using the Edge of Creation to bring back his lost memories, or rather sort out which of the memories he absorbed from the lifestream were originally his vs which belonged to other people. I’m also wondering if he could be using that to influence his own choices in the past, like we see him going back to influence Cloud in Remake. Perhaps originally Sephiroth had abandoned Glenn and the others due to receiving orders to return but had regretted that and influenced his past self to stick with them and save them. This could be one reason one of the major deviations in Remake’s history involves Glenn and his group taking over Wutai. I think the Edge of Creation may functionally exist outside of time, in the same way Chrono Trigger’s Darkness Beyond Time’s Eclipse does. That would explain how Sephiroth, who seems to be a post Advent Children Sephiroth, seems to be going back and influencing things in FF7R.
Very interesting. Sephiroth at the Edge of Creation seemed like a redeemable character...in Remake at least. Supposedly in Japanese even the way he referred to himself was different than his evil self, more like the way he used to be when he still had his humanity. But the Sephiroth in Rebirth seemed like the same old evil bastard we've been fighting against. Weird.
The best part about Crisis Core was, for me, the whole Sephiroth Angeal and Genesis stuff. Exploring that friendship is best thing they could do. I've always wanted to see how bad the three of them could wreck shit in a fight if they worked together.Hoping in Part 3 we get a flashback from Sephiroths POV where we play as him fighting alongside Angeal and Genesis. Would be the coolest shit ever. I've seen some saying they think they are setting up a redemption arc but I don't see that. I think what they are setting up is when we beat Sephiroth at the end of part 3 sephiroth will be rebound to all the memories and feelings he threw away, which is why they are showing us all this stuff, and will willingly join the lifestream and finally be gone. Angeal and Genesis going with him, the three winged friends reunited. I'm starting to think Genesis is gonna lead Sephiroth to Lucrecias cave. In Crisis Core he mocks Sephiroth for not knowing his real mother so him making up for it and getting back his SOLDIER honor by showing him his real mother would be kinda sweet and a little redemption for a divisive character. I think Sephiroth will kill Genesis though but in doing so it will slightly spark a emotinal responce from Sephiroth and seeing Lucrecia will spark a even bigger reaction and that's when shit gets real plot change time. I personally feel Genesis is overhated but that's a rant for another time lol
From what we are seeing as we saw a younger Angeal, I think it's safe to assume we will see a younger Genesis too and we will get to see them wreck shit together. I would love to see a mini chapter for instance let's say Shinra discovers a huge 7 headed hydra dragon in a cave which is blocking access to a mako point and so Sephiroth, Angeal, and Genesis are called upon to slay it. It would be nice to see some banter between the three as they travel to the location and perhaps fight a few monsters along the way. Then once they arrive Sephiroth leads them in with vicious denizens of the underdark they fight along the way showing more of their swordsmanship but displaying each of their signature moves. Then once they come upon this huge monster, it actually puts all three on their tows as they are each trying to out-show the other, but it gets to a point to where it almost cost them dearly. In a final display of their power Sephiroth gets his partners to follow his lead in an ultimate Tri-Tech attack with their powers combined to defeat this denizen from the ancient world that still existed.
Yup, one of the most interesting concepts in CC was sephiroth having friends. It kinda sucks that angeal and genesis were poorly written in the majorities first impressions, hopefully they at least have a character in this episode 2 of first soldier.
@@TravaillesDuChanson I think, from a game play viewpoint, Angeal and Genesis should be kinda linked together in their attacks since neither are truly on Sephiroths level in sheer strength so we play as Sephiroth and Angeal and Genesis kinda play like Nanaki at the end of Remake. I don't think they will get the fully playable treatment. But yeah, the potential for the banter and being able to see the friendship blossom would be so damn cool and fill a void I Feel CC always left with not really giving us more of that friendship. Ohh imagine if they let us play out that training room Junon fight scene haha fan service brain overload.
i appreciate you for these videos so much 🙏 as a huge ffvii fan with little tolerance for mobile games you are allowing people like me to still enjoy the additional lore in a digestible way
I am so enjoying these videos. I don't do games like this - my pension won't stretch to them - so I really appreciate your detailed examinations. I wish Square-Enix would make an anime on something like Netflix to explain all the episodes that happened before FFVII started. I want to learn the history of AVALANCHE. I'd watch that!
I kind of like this retcon of Sephiroth being a broken hero, it's messy but it's nice. It's like Sephiroth, Glenn and co become like equivalent of Lagoona and party in FF8. Can't wait for the PC version of Rebirth and someone to mod it so I can have Sephiroth, Zack, Cloud battle party on the main map lol.
Well,Is not a retcon....Just a development based on elements already present in the OG...actually the devs have technology, time and money to create the things they really wanted to do since the OG...and this Trilogy Is the result
So in advent children when aerith heals the stigma, that means he still won't in the lifestream or basically rebirth can't happen If cloud dies naturally, with no jenova cells, will sephiroth?
Ooo that Hojo tease is super interesting. In the library scene Sephiroth gets a brief Jenova flash of Hojo and I've been very intrigued to see if they're going somewhere with that.
I was thinking the man holdong the camera could be a younger hollander, and thay the black cloak is someone else, more of a memetic contrast from the past SOLDIERS to Sephiroth now, alone with his puppets
I think that Chapter 8 is indeed taking place during the same mission with Zack taking down Fort Tamblin in Crisis Core. That is the mission where Genesis defects and he makes the other SOLDIERs join him.
Sephiroth being at the edge of creation is in his/clouds subconscious, he is in the northern crater physically and remember he states I will not end. Because of jenova cells making him rejected from the lifestream. Cloud also has jenova cells which is why he wasn’t basically disintegrated by the lifestream. Hence why in rebirth sephiroth shows cloud the nature of things…mic drop 🎤 Also he tells cloud nor will you end. Edge of creation sephiroth is the real sephiroth while all the others were jenova essentially
I honestly think Sephiroth is having a Thanos effect. I honestly think this Sephiroth means well but what he's doing no one is gonna agree with, which is he has to destroy everything to save everyone. That's why he keeps saying I will save everyone if I can and Jenova is in his head as well. The true mystery as well is why does he need Cloud? 🤔
Thanks for doing this. I cannot stand gatcha/gotcha games and could not see myself even playing this one for story tie ins. I owe you a beer or few if we ever meet irl.

Ooo Jenova impacting Sephiroth in the early days
Anyone else peep at 5:30, the cloud behind Sephiroth looks like his wing?? 🫨

I think the EoC scene is the present Sephiroth, or at least his consciousness, the one currently in the crystallized Mako in Northern Crater
Yeah thats definitely one of my main thoughts on it lately.
Fantastic analysis. Thank you.
So in advent children when aerith heals the stigma, that means he still won't in the lifestream or basically rebirth can't happen
If cloud dies naturally, with no jenova cells, will sephiroth?
Yes. Sephiroth and Cloud are connected by DNA. If Cloud dies, Sephiroth does too.
This story is amazing. Can't wait to see the rest, and thanks for the breakdown!
