FYI. Back in SF V, that young man got 3rd place at VSFighting X (offline tourney) and won one of the biggest premiere offline tourney in UK called Ultimate Fighting Arena by beating pros like Punk, Mr Crimson, and Valmaster. He also qualified for Capcom Cup IX and got 5th/6th place only lost to Idom and MenaRD. For SF 6, he got 4th place at VSFighting XI and won 2 World Warrior events.
So EndingWalker not just some online warrior but he really have potential to win EVO.

Ending really leveled up! After gamers8 i was saying maybe ryu isn't for him, the birds always 7-0 him and stuff like that but now he really playing amazing! Happy for him
Ending Ryu reminds me of two Ryu players back in SF4, Jyubin, and Solid.. they had completely crazy / solid ryu play.. they were more entertaining to watch than Daigo's Ryu.
I was sad to see that Ryu was dropped by his "step" dad Daigo for the sake to play a top tier, but this kid just revived this character from tierlist-bullshitting ashes. GG for Life.

I remember seeing Ending Walker in MDZ_jimmY's SFV chat, then later on seeing his Ed and sometimes Ryu. Seeing him beast with Ryu now just tells me he wanted to main Ryu in SFV but knew he could only go so far with him. If Ed is even better this game, which I'm sure he will be, I wonder if he'll switch back or stick with Ryu, or do both.
I believe ending walker has said he will play Ed if hes fun, he doesn't really care which is better

BigBird's Rashid is very offensively heavy (whereas Gachikun's Rashid can sometimes be too defensive). Bird needs to play better defensive and baiting. He kept getting hit by wakeup uppercuts (every single time!). He could have baited wakeup uppercuts instead of just go go go.

While it's fun to see Ryu played at a high level, it's hard to ignore what a waste of a top player that is. Like watching iDom try to make Manon work. I get it-lots of players will only play the character that they feel comfortable with, and if that character is low tier... tough. But EndingWalker mentioned switching to Ken. Now I'm starting to think maybe he was just pulling our leg.
It's a top player that has HIS character. Why switch to Ken when they are a million Kens right now. A million JP's right now. Take your character as far as you can go.

When it comes to the concrete vindication of that kind of decision making, I need only point to any of the major offline SF6 events, even including the invitational whose potential for character upsets was inherently hamstrung by its format. Given how the top 4s have played out in those stacked tournaments, I would say the only reasonable argument _against_ picking a top character is that Capcom is likely to adjust the power of one or another characters. (That having been said, I'm confident that JP will be shielded from any nerfs, because of who uses him.)
I don't really like how you phrased it ("waste of a top player") but I do get the perspective. It's coming from the assumption that all top players care about is winning though. If winning is all that matters, then picking a top tier is definitely the way to go. However, there's a good portion of people who want to win on their own terms and that's why character specialists and low tier players exist. I'm also one of those types and I know it's not the most logically sound decision making but it's just how we are as people. If you do want another sound reason besides trying to dodge nerfs though, there's also the consideration that if you're one of only a few players playing the character, other people are going to be less familiar with the match up. Even at the top level, I believe this to be true, though not as extremely as in general ranked play.
A waste of top player??? Ending just won CPT World Warrior with Ryu and he also had fun with the character. That’s why he still playing Ryu. So i don’t understand your take here.
EndingWalker explained that he has a Ken for Ryu's hard MUs. He likes playing Ryu more but he thinks the character is too reliant on perfect parries and has a too tight margin for error compared to top tier characters who are more forgiving on timings and spacing.
