    South Australia has been doing it for almost a decade. Let me assure the rest of Australia that the world keeps spinning. It's a small sacrifice that everyone can make to help protect the environment and wildlife.

      Better yet, don't use the plastic bags at all. Get the other ones that don't break and save money.

      The multiple-use plastic bags don't break, that's the whole point... 15c for a bag that will last for a couple of years at minimum.

      South Australians now buy bin liners instead of reusing the so called single use plastic bags for their garbage.

      Matthew Camerlengo - Same with Tasmania. It's probably the Melbourne and Sydney suburban types who are freaking out over trivial problems.

      Other states don't get it, it is not the same change occuring in NSW. In SA, the government banned them, so companies had to change, that's great! But In NSW, the government has not banned them at all. Coles and Woolworths are banning single use bags because they want to save money for their companies, and charge us for the alternative. Its genius for their profits! Also, genius for marketing as it makes ppl think they care about the environment.
      That's why ppl are angry.
      Oh and btw.. the multiple use bags, what happens with them when they're no good? They will not break down either they're even worse for the environment. We should have gone back to paper!

    I think we should all mass in front of the store, with placards and bullhorns, and let them know how we feel!
    Better wear a plastic bag on our heads to hide our identity, though..
    Oh, and it'll be windy tomorrow, so tie them up tight.

    Woolies in SA only provides the green multiple-use plastic bags for somewhere around 15c, or you can buy one of the more expensive fabric bags. The green bags are stronger than single-use bags and can hold more stuff. You pay 15c for a bag that pretty much lasts forever.

  • @michah321

    The problem is the single use bags cam be brought back for recycling. The " permanent bags" last about a year amd they're harder to break down

  • @oo0Spyder0oo
    @oo0Spyder0oo 6 років тому +11

    And what of the real problem? The silly packaging that all the stuff on the shelves comes in? Even individual chocolates inside of boxes is insane. The yanks have used paper bags for ages haven't they? Why didn't we go that way years ago?

    I love Kitty, but the UK has had a plastic bag ban for a few years now, you either pay 5-10p for a new bag or bring your own, and trust me, people do remember to bring them when they have a large shop

  • @thedeathofme4131

    All the supermarkets should just copy Aldi. They don’t give you plastic bags, either you bring your own bag or buy one of theirs, otherwise just struggle to carry all your shopping. People still shop there, so it seems to work

    In most of Western Europe, you have to pay if you want a plastic bag. It's not a huge amount, but people do remember, or use discarded boxes.

    We see less comedy but how dumb are the reality shows omg I don't watch them at all they are severely defect I wish they were banned.
    Bring back re-runs of all comedy serious going way back to the 1980s. Fast forward

    If you order an online delivery you get just as much one use plastic if not more than before because guess what the brainiacs use to keep items together inside the reusable plastic bags, yes more plastic!

    I'm for environment and want my plastic bags at the same time. So I took a step back and really tried to comprehend the bag ban.
    I could write a whole lot of stuff here that I have found but in short. This move will not reduce the amount of bags that end up in the tip or the ocean, because people are still going to line there bins with plastic bags. The only difference is. They will purchase them.
    My solution would be that Woolworths and other Supermarkets supply biodegradable bags for free.
    If they really care about the environment and want to make customers happy at the same time. They could have vending machines that take in plastic bottles in exchange for 15c credit to use in store. This will lead to no bottles on the street, customers will get a discount on their purchases and a big win for the environment.
    How do you like them apples?

    • @UnitSe7en
      @UnitSe7en 6 років тому

      Exactly. The myopic cries of "The environment!" are just that - Insanely ignorant, self-rightous and short-sighted. This will in NO WAY reduce the amount of plastic in the environment. What's more, proper bin bags are stronger, thicker and a different type of plastic than your disposable shopping bag, taking longer to break down.

  • @TheAazah
    @TheAazah 6 років тому +12

    So these plastic bags are stronger than the orginal ones i get that also bigger but how do they protect the planet? They still gonna end up in water way. Their stronger than ever now so i don't understand

    • @OriginalPiMan

      The idea is that you use fewer of them at a time and use them more times. Use them enough times (with "enough" depending on the bag type) and it is better on average than the once or twice you are likely to use the free bags.

    • @SM-bh5dy
      @SM-bh5dy 6 років тому +3

      If anything we should be using brown paper bags that are easily dissolved and burned. Or the hessian and material bags because people will be less inclined to throw them away

    Ah yes the signage in the store that not many people paid attention to because they were busy shopping with their little so n' so's or busy watching their pennies or just wanted to get in and out. Black text on darkish green isn't that communicative. Ads in newspapers, who reads whose. Nup, the whole changeover should've happened over a month to give the non anal a chance to adapt. I also bought a roll of mini bags to use as waste bin liners for the kitchen to replace the "free" ones we used to get.

    • @Mububban23
      @Mububban23 6 років тому

      If someone has somehow avoided print media, TV, radio and the internet, then maybe perhaps they would not have known this ban was coming. Most people in modern life however regularly access at least one of those forms of communication so no excuses for not knowing really. Forgetting the reusable bags at home, or having them in the other car - now that is realistically going to happen to everyone at some point!
      And yes, sales of plastic bin liners goes way up whenever plastic bags are phased out. So the shopping centre will profit from the move.

    • @markc65
      @markc65 6 років тому

      Blackheathenly People have not known that it has been coming for years, only the anal retentive have. This was poorly executed by the supermarkets - more so by Woolworths. In fact ten years ago the supermarkets, target, etc, etc had green bags, canvas/calico bags for customers to buy. When you see your customers walking out of your store with hand/armfuls of groceries (a dangerous act I might add), it shows the supermarkets have failed with their bag ban publicity.
