Tim Dalton was brilliant as Bond, very very close to the Bond Ian Fleming wrote about, charming, shopicated, but with a cruel streak, the others all have their own qualities but TD was one of the best
I honestly don't remember Bond having a cruel streak. He was deeply affected by Della being murdered and was troubled by the fact it was done by henchmen who knew Lighter was on to them. He was also concerned about the remaining CIA operative who probably would be killed without him being involved.
I liked Tim Dalton the best and Living Daylights is my favourite Bond Movie. I didn't have the same interest in James Bond after Tim left the franchise.
Unfortunetly Dalton quit. He apparently decided to go back to acting in the style he was trained for....it was his call...but he was a great 007...since Brosnans contract with Remington Steele was up and Broccoli was waiting for him , he got the part. It all worked out that way. However, The Living Daylights is my favorite 007 film to date. The chemistry between Dalton and Maryam D'abo is priceless....
Sean Connery: The Classic Bond. Roger Moore: The Great Bond. Timothy Dalton: The Underrated and Outstanding Bond. We miss you TD. 007 fan and collector since 1981.
No he didnt.....critics and fans were very skeptical of Dalton....his movies only brought in 300 million....Bronsan brought the franchise 750 million (in his 1st two movies)......
BigdogH201 But that was after nearly a five year hiatus and a huge merchandise launch along side the release of Golden Eye. Golden Eye for the new N64 was one of the most successful first person shooting games in history.
***** True......but Ive seen commericals in the late 80s with a more convincing James Bond than Dalton.......Dalton failed at the box office (ans as Bond) because he wasnt convinvcing enough......Bronsan was the better actor and star.....with or without the video games.....
BigdogH201 Brosnan played the role of Bond to light and to a degree of silliness (The World is Not Enough, Die Another Day), Dalton brought back the true Bond essence from Fleming's books however fans were used to the campiness of Roger Moore once Dalton took over and didn't want change which is a shame.
BigdogH201 People had becomed accustomed to Moore's comedy Bond and weren't prepared for seriousness. Given a few more films, people would've warmed to Dalton.
Ian Leszczynski It pissed me off for a long time . I have always felt he was underrated. He had that Bond DNA and I don't know what happened ?! Maybe he wasn't kiss ass enough to the Broccoli family , Who knows ! But he did Excellent in this movie and others ! ( Too me ) .
@@craigpatterson1547 On the contrary. Tim and Broccoli by all accounts had a very good working relationship, he was actually asked back for Goldeneye on the condition he would do a few more films after, but Timothy decided to decline the offer, feeling it had been too long and that future films would take up too much of his career.
I fantasize that in a parallel universe not too different from ours, Timothy Dalton continued making Bond films. Oh what I wouldn´t give to see another Tim Dalton Bond film. Simply magic.
I don’t care what the critics or the fans say - Dalton was criminally underrated as Bond. He singlehandedly brought the character back to reality after the camp excesses of the Moore era and the comedy elements that audiences were getting far too comfortable with. And he had the right blend of ruthlessness and charm to match. Though he only did two outings, Living Daylights and Licence to Kill were miles better than the last 4 Moore outings, where he essentially became a parody of himself. Had the legal issues not happened in the 90’s, Dalton would of done Property of a Lady/Whisper of Terror and then signed off with GoldenEye. What could of been, eh?
Timothy Dalton's 2 Bond films were the last ones that felt magical to me. Bond films from the beginning through License To Kill always felt like kid on Christmas morning special occasions where you were transported to a wonderful world of escapism and adventure. I still like the ones after Dalton's era, but they just haven't felt "special" since then. Dalton's and Connery's Bonds were guys you wanted to be. Moore's Bond was fun & the stunt work, locales, and ladies were superb. Great times!
"Kheista - it means beautiful in Afghan" =) The Living Daylights will always be my favourite Bond film because of the really nice feel of it all especially the actors and music. RIP JohnBarry, you and your music will be missed.
My favourite Bond movie is License to Kill and Timothy Dalton is one of the best only behind Sean Connery and followed very near by the third best Bond, the sadly now defunct Roger Moore. RIP Mr. Bond.
Timothy Dalton was IMHO the best of the Bonds and (Again IMHO) Maryam D'abo comes first before all the Bond girls. The music in this song is indisputably the best of John Berry's love themes and the Pretenders fit it perfectly. Living Daylights may not of been the best of the Bond stories but it certainly had a lot of other things going for it.
Whenever I hear this song, my heart just goes into meltdown..... I mean there are so many beautiful songs out there, some by Teena Marie, yet this just encapsulates feelings that you can't get from her songs. The words and the voice of Ms Hinds truly in the words of Roy Ayers just simply "Sends Me."
Ah, the last John Barry bond. Oh my goodness, this music carries a unique place in the canon of Bond music, the man who wrote Goldfinger's last connection with 007. I remember seeing this at Westwood Villiage in 87 and thinking, Barry's still got so much more beautiful music left for Bond, little did I know then this was the last.
The musical version of this song is so Beautiful. It's played when they are riding into vienna via horse carriage. I would love that so much! Any takers?... Thanx for posting...
Dalton sort of thought the franchise had lost their way during moores era because of a loss of sense of reality.Daltonm when he got the role , sort of went back in time trying to emulate Ian Flemings James Bond(the one in the novel) and boy wasnt he successful. One of the most handsome actors and im sure he would appeal more to the "real and true" james bond fans , absolutely love him. I grew up with Moore but his time ended. I really don t understand Bond fans in Germany who said that Dalton was the worst. In Hauch des Todes "Living daylights" he was so underrated just like the song If there was a man.
i loved watching this in the cinema as a 12 year old with my brother, we both admired and respected Timothy Dalton's Bond, reminds me of slightly better times ,and agree with daytripper, back in the days when Bond could treat a lady well, and have great chemistry with his female star. The Living Daylights was a welcome change after the fun but flippancy of Roger Moore, himself a good actor, too,.
Dalton´s third Bond instalment was set for 1991 and was rumored to be named "The Property of a Lady". I recommend you to read the novel and you can imagine Timothy being there. :-)
@daytripper231 I think the problem was that internal problems at MGM put a pause period on the Bond franchise that lasted so long that by the time the film that would have been his 3rd (which became GoldenEye), Dalton felt he was too old and that too much time had passed. It's really unfortunate. If only Dalton had stepped in (and Roger Moore had stepped out) with "For Your Eyes Only" we could have had five Bond films from him.
Timothy Dalton was by far the best Bond. He played him in very believable stories of Russian double agent and the second film was about a South American drugs lord. What a dammed shame it was because for me Timothy was the best Bond of them all but as it is we only have the two films to enjoy but enjoy we do.
Brosnan's bond was great without question he was the bond I grew up with! But Dalton just had more of an edge to him. The living daylight's and license to kill are actually my favorite bond films along with golden eye , Casino royal and Goldfinger. Dalton's bond is so underrated due to him only doing two bond film's but he played the role how it should be played. I am happy however with Craig's bond as he comes very close to Dalton's! Aggressive , cold , Little remorse and not as cheesy!!

I SO agree. IN SOME things Danial Craig is pretty OK, but not as Bond. For the Bond movies not to seem silly, it always works best when there is humor and he can laugh at himself. But between the dead dialog, and lack of clever action (not just shooting but FUN action scenes) and Craig's (funeral parlor director) presentation of Bond I have literally gone to sleep during them. I just do not bother with them anymore. So I patiently wait for someone with a sexy fun pulse again to replace him. ;)
Last week Daniel Craig announced the he almost quit the franchise after 3 years without news. One more year and the second 'hard edge' Bond would repeat the first, quitting after just 2 movies. Fortunately, the new movie will start production next year, at least.
