@@Jdman5000 It’s just baffling that she joined the conversation half way through without knowing the context of what was being said and then she kept trying to dominate the conversation. I agree 100%, these people are the worst
@@30daymissionman I think you're being overly dramatic. She was trying to ask a question the whole time (why argue over which cruel act is worse instead of trying to get rid of all), and because she wasn't as loud as the rest, she didn't get to start that conversation.

U wild, bro. Right in their faces. I'll always will applaud you. I'm vegan for life. Most of my life vegetarian. Finally realized the dairy being as bad and unhealthy a number of years ago. I'm behind being a vegan activist as well. May God be with U
I can't stand that lady that barged into the conversation and proceeded to not only virtue signal but also completely ignore everything Joey said. Unbelievable.
I actually thought she offered some points which actually helped Joey's argument tbh which he then kinda ruined by not appreciating that most people really don't understand speciesism, and don't see human, and non-human lives as equally in need of protecting.
@@DiahRhiaJones It by definition is 🤣 and you call me a moron. Veganism is a set of subjective morality. Slaughtering animals for food isn’t immoral and never has been.
Two life philosophies: Either the world is a shitty place therefore I'll be shitty too, or this world is completely F up but lets try to make it better the best way I can.
Even if owning a telephone was immoral his logic is basically "I am entitled to do immoral things because you also do other immoral things". In other words: as long as others do unethical things, so shall I.
Well, it's like, if 1 immortal thing exists, then everything is fair game and severity doesn't matter. Because someone cussed at someone else, genocide is ok, both are "immoral", right ? Apparently one justifies the other. It is also appealing to, you have to be impossibly perfect, if not, then every negative action is acceptable. The usual mindsets that try to stifle progress.
That's not the guy's position at all. Him eating meat and Joey owning a phone are unrelated. He eats meat because he likes it. He accepts that it is immoral and that he doesn't live in accord with his morality. Similarly, he pointed out that Joey does not live in accord with _his_ morality either because he knowingly buys goods that are the product of human (and animal) exploitation himself. He's not saying two wrongs make a right or that anything goes because Joey does one immoral thing. He's just pointing out that (nearly) everyone condones immoral acts and is therefore a hypocrite to some extent.
@@PureExile then why did he ask joey to stop buying phones (?) so that he would also stop eating meat? Besides, Joey said many times he didn't find it unethical to own a phone, so your premise is wrong to begin with
PS - aren't we all? Those of us who are on the same sane, empathetic side and then we hear the childish, regressive remarks of this one or that one. We do need patience and understanding in order to be able to cope with all the gratuitous anger and cruelty that you can hear from some people. And that is what makes one grow in a healthy manner. Pax
I used to take grievances with Joey and his form of activism, and almost resented them but after watching his videos and following Earthling Ed's activism and reading up and informing myself, I became vegan yesterday, my consciousness was being plagued with guilt, so therfore I took the step and became vegan, I joined the vegan society and Veganuary amongst others. I regret the things I've said about Joey, but I was more ashamed of my actions so I projected that anger upon him 😔 my apologies Joey if you are watching.
I am vegan from 5 months now, watching Joey videos over a year , frankly felt he was pushing too much, but when I saw the footage, I couldn’t handle it. Overnight, I turned vegan. I think he is an angel on earth for animals. Imagine one thousand people became vegan because of his activism, that turns saving millions of life
You are so right. Becoming a vegan means really holding up a mirror to yourself and asking that big question: are you happy being a hypocrite? It's a massive pivot for most people for three reasons, and I include myself here: 1) meat, chicken and fish taste unbelievably good, for most people; 2) having to give up something so delicious makes us resentful; 3) when we realise this resentment is actually directed inwards it makes us angry toward the person who made us feel this way. How many smokers voluntarily quit smoking? It usually takes a doctor reading you your last rites before you realise you have to quit the thing that gives you so much pleasure. Same with quitting meat. In this case, people like Joey and Ed are the doctor. It's no mean feat quitting meat!
@@girlplanetboy so true. Well said! I was not a big meat eater before becoming vegan - only had meat a couple of tines per week and did include lots of vegan options in my diet, plus only had plant milk. But every time I’ve eaten meat for years now it has played on my conscience more and more. I have a vegan friend who was sometimes a bit “guilt trippy” about me eating meat and I 100% agreed with her views, and wanted to defend her in social situations, and yet I wasn’t practicing what my inner morals were telling me, essentially making me a hypocrite, and I resented her when she’d kinda drop things into the conversation to make me feel bad - or so I saw it at the time. But in reality I was just resenting myself and holding that resentment and anger inward, because I knew it was wrong. So this veganuary I decided to go for it, and watched a ton of documentaries about all aspects of veganism along with loads of Joey’s and Ed’s debates (also read Ed’s book) and there’s no going back now. The veil of cognitive dissonance is fully broken. I can’t be a hypocrite anymore and be an “animal lover” who’s complicit in those barbaric industries. There are so many great alternatives now too… I know I have no excuse. None of us do. Yes I do miss meat a bit, and still have cravings for cheese…but a moment on our lips is a lifetime of suffering for innocent beings. I feel freer knowing nothing I consume causes pain for them. I now understand why my friend chose to speak up about it and it was largely because of her that I did this and educated myself on all this. She’s delighted that I’ve become vegan. As Ed says… we are on the right side of history 💚🌱
So he's not going vegan because the people in the congo mines working for $1/hr aren't going to lose their best opportunity for a wage to an electronics boycott... Yeah, totally makes sense. Also, having a phone is an outright necessity in the developed world, but choosing to buy animal products is just that, a choice.
@@Nicky_Dore It's about as much of a choice as any other technological necessity in the modern world. Owning a vehicle is also a choice. Having a phone or a vehicle is a necessity to function properly in modern society. It's kind of baffling that I have to explain this. And in many cases, a phone might even be more of a necessity than a vehicle.
@@Nicky_Dore well, if I had a choice between this phone and a completely ethical one, or one that minimises suffering and exploitation, I would happily choose that. Yet this guy has an extremely easy choice to make between chicken and plant based food and he makes the wrong choice 3 times a day.
@@GandalfTheSilver who says I have to “function properly” in your view of society. Seems subjective to me. So people without cell phones aren’t functioning properly? Seems rather elitist. But you agree it’s a choice, which was my only point.

If most animals were bigger and more intelligent and a more Dominant breed than humans would they eat us yes and exploit us yes they would and I’m not saying we’re physically more dominant because obviously we would get killed by a gorilla or a shark but we are more intelligent which makes us the higher breed hence why we kill Animals it’s natural and just because something is natural doesn’t mean it’s moral but unfortunately are world isn’t one sided bad and good ying and yang, being vegan doesn’t even solve the solution infact it just creates another problem and kills even more animals because when you eat tofu weat and a lot of other products animals have to die so it kinda defeats the whole point of veganism because you’re still harming and killing animals the worlds not perfect but trying to make the whole world go vegan isn’t practical or sustainable nor is it going to happen. I know this is gunna get a lot of people triggered I don’t care because this is my outlook
The difference here is you joey are out trying to make a difference, that guy isn’t and if he really felt strongly about the phone stuff he would! The trouble is until people face up and actually research and watch your videos, they turn a blind eye and carry on, I see it when I show people your videos. Some people take it in and every single one who does is a good accomplishment. It’s the best thing I ever did and it’s because of you, I’ve never felt healthier and let’s face it - it’s easy nowadays and I know I’ve made a difference already.
So annoying when people talk over others, just shut up when someone else is talking. These continuous interruptions, the interaction became so very chaotic. Well done Joey for handling this like a pro
Well done for standing your ground. It takes a strong minded unique individual to do what you do and never give up especially when 95 percent of the world doesn't care but keep spreading the message hopefully 1 day we can end it
When you get old enough you see that people you come across just try to do the bare minimum and get away with as much as they think no one will ever notice. Most people like to put on the image of being a good person while trying to get away with as many nasty things as long as no one ever finds out.
This whole argument would have been avoided if he'd stated he'd bought his phone second hand, thus not supporting the continued mining of coltan. People use this excuse to say that electric cars are less carbon efficient, but the C02 necessary just to produce 1 litre of gasoline before being sold, is equivalent to the offset of going 20 miles in an electric car. I think people need to start combining these issues together some more. I know many people are apathetic about the environment within their own doubltethink, but things like the fact that a single cows methane emissions are equivalent to the carbon emissions created by the average UK home over 3 weeks, might give people more pause about the whole 'buy local' myth, when trasportation of animals accounts for 0.5% of their net C02 emissions. People will always come at vegans with similar tactics, and they get more sophisticated and nuanced through the conflation of ethical veganism and other less laudable reasons like personal health etc. Heres some quickies, 80% of soya grown is used to feed livestock anyway, so going vegan still means on average you're responsible for less consumption of soya. Only 0.16% of fruit and veg is imported via aviation, and 35% of beef is imported anyway into the UK. To make 1kg of beef, 60kg of C02 emissions are created, and the average cow is around 720kg, compared to the highest vegan C)2 offset item being olive oil at 1.5kg per 1 kg produced and rice at 1.6-1kg. Aviation each year accounts for only 2% of carbon emissions globally, whereas animal agriculture alone is conservatively estimated at 14%. All of the crops required to feed livestock requires deforestation and disruption to natural fauna, making animal agriculture extremely deleterious for biodiversity. Humans make around 0.5-2 litres of methane a day, compared to 250-500 from cows(if people make the farting argument) and methane is 80x more 'potent' as a greenhouse gas than C02. The carbon cost to create an electric car battery(which lasts 3-4x longer than a regular car battery) is equivalent to the average emissions from running a diesel car for 2+1/2 years, and most people own cars from typically 9.7-11.4 years. Electric cars are simply and obviously better for the earth. Don't get me wrong, I went vegan for the animals 3 years ago and wont go back. But intelligent people always have ways round to create casuistry, so giving them straightup facts and then getting into the empathic reasons to go vegan, I've found to be more fruitful and garners further conversation.
You did great Joey. But that lady was interrupting you so much and she made it difficult for you to get your message across. I love how you speak up for the animals with integrity and bravery. I hate how that guy tried to compare human animal suffering with non human animal suffering. Human suffering pales in comparison to non human suffering. Thank you for keeping the fight for animal rights going, Joey Carbstrong. You, Natasha Peterson, Earthling Ed, Lifting Vegan Logic, and Vegan Gaze are among some of my favorite animal rights activists. You guys are leading the charge for animal liberation. They won't be able to stop us.
I love how everyone tries to deflect rather than admit they're paying for animal abuse. Trying to find faults in vegans for bringing awareness and defending the helpless. Vegan practice do no harm. Kind of hard to call someone a hypocrite when they're selflessly trying to help others with no personal agenda
Not only does buying a phone ONE TIME cause WAY less suffering than paying for animal products multiple times a day, but having a phone is basically a necessity now. Eating a cheeseburger is not. There is a massive difference. Calling a vegan out for owning an iPhone is like calling a vegan out for living in a house. Building a house results in some animal suffering in some way like taking up land where an animal lived for example. But a house is a necessity not a cheeseburger. These people will reach so far just to not feel guilty about eating animal products it’s insane
I admire your courage, tenacity and discussion skills, Joey! I try to make people more aware whenever the opportunity arises, but you truly are on boss level!
Joey: Billions of animals are exploited and killed every year, look at the suffering these chickens experience for your fleeting pleasure. This guy: But the Congo! Way to evade responsibility by pointing out irrelevent injustices.
I see your point, but I also don’t think that the point about the Congo is irrelevant. I suppose that a true vegan might boycott phones as well since they are produced by cruel means. I think it’s food for thought, and we, vegans, ought to listen to this appeals, though they may be deflections. How else can we convince people than by meeting them where they are? I’m a teacher and this is the number one thing we learn in the profession: use what people give you.
@@Gooby1303 It's a common rebuttal to any vegan argument with a insidious goal of silencing the message by taking away all forms of modern communication. No cell phone or computer effectively mutes the vegan message, which is what a carnist wants in an argument with a vegan. Personally, I use second-hand tech and that should be enough on a practical level to minimize my contribution to that abuse.
@@Gooby1303 Good and fair point, that we should have a broad view and not overly concentrate on only one injustice and turn a blind eye to other issues. But it is beneficial for some individuals to give great energy to one particular issue as they can be more effective in creating change. Almost all of the most positive cultural changes have required some individuals to concentrate with great diligence on that issue. Re: the phone, is not teally practical to boycott phones, and it would make it very difficult to organise any kind of campaigning. But it is possible to buy more ethical phones using more ethically sourced materials or buy second hand.
The Congo phone argument is similar to like, hey a million people die from car crashes every year, so if you own a car you vaguely contribute to human deaths, so I can kill and eat 1 animal a day by directly buying their flesh. There is benefit to finding the value in these things. Perhaps the real solution to the Congo thing would be every time we buy a phone, donate 5% of the value you pay, to a charity that gives money, food or healthcare to the workers of Congo. Thay would do so much more good than not buying a phone. However not buying a chicken directly means a chicken doesn't need to be killed to replace it on the shelf.
Joey, I also sent an email about a week ago to thank you ! Thanks for doing what you do! I hope I see you in London some day, shake your hand, and thank you! ❤️ Farid
Dude if I was in this situation I'd get worn out, disheartened, depressed, and just go home and sleep. Not only was the guy loud and simple-minded (not to be offensive, but even before I went vegan I knew better. His arguments held no weight.), the uncompassionate people eating pork that followed saying "I don't care about animals" "so what they taste good", and the mom with her child being arrogant were all just as disheartening. Idk how you stay composed, and logical in such heat. No joke, when no one around me seems to care, but you and Ed keep the sadness at bay. Bless you man.
The woman is enjoying trying to be the 'white saviour' during this whole exchange. She doesn't actually express her view on the topic they are discussing, she's just adding to the aggro whilst pretending to be the 'peace keeper' telling them they shouldn't be arguing which one is worse. Joey was trying to express the moral differences which he still did very well over her rambling. Great work Joey, another articulate debate in tribute to these exploited beings 👏🏼
Fellow activists: just get all of your technology used. It will shut down the "you have a phone tho" crap, and it's better for the planet, you save money, and you won't miss out on anything. Just do it!!!!!!
And after you explain that you get everything used, ask them what they're doing to avoid contributing to the ethical issues of technology. You will 99 percent likely get crickets, then you can move back to animal rights. Easy!
Joey, you always say the right thing in those debates and i really enjoy watching them. But it is always frustrating to see people comparing animals to carrots and the iphone excuse. I think there should be a better argument against those excuses. In the Congo argument I would ask what do you think will happen to the people if we boycot products from this country. This might make the rethink. It is interesting how most of the meat eaters are experts about carrots feelings and slavery in Africa. Probably its because they know they are doing something wrong.
There actually is an argument to made here about veganism and how it logically leads to consumption changes outside of veganism, like avoiding products produced by unethical practices. This guy isn't making that argument however. He's just gesturing at vague hypocrisies.
The industry of mining elements for phones isn't inherently exploitive nor does it HAVE to lead to abuses or death. Yes, let's remedy those systems so people have better working conditions and will be paid for the value of their labor. The animal industry is inherently cruel. There is no way around abusing, exploiting, and killing animals for meat, leather, fur and dairy and eggs. There is no way to correct these industries to avoid murder.
Wait, it might not inherently be cruel to produce cellphones, but if it is currently cruel then shouldn't we morally have an obligation to avoid products produced by cruelty?
Well atleast we show that we care about animals by not harming them.. But this guy says he cares about the mine workers and goes on telling other people not to use phones while he himself uses a phone. So who's the hypocrite here???
They say, "chickens are stupid" yet they're the ones who're stupid when they claimed they didn't realised what happens to their "food". How can you not realised how your food is made!
@@pacmanmcgavin7847 i don't blame you, we made mistakes in the past but we learned from them. Here's an example, everytime anyone buys fur, a furry animal is skinned alive, why alive, so the fur can be easily removed from the body while it's still warm.
I don't get it a few peopel actually stop and say that is horrific but they don't stop enabling the torture. What does it take for people to finally wake up and take amoral stance against animal cruelty. without animals we wouldn't have survive throughout the early stages of our existence and now it is time we do something in return for them and most look away like they do not care at all.
It's fascinating how rationality is tossed out the window the moment you make people realize that what they enjoy doing is immoral. The defense mechanism is amazing. Why don't we see criminals arguing their actions like this?

hey joey, great work! i find a good question is "can an iphone be made without without causing unnecessary violence to others?" the answer is yes. then ask "can animal products be made without causing unnecessary violence to others?" the answer is no. then just explain that veganism is about not contributing to things that you know will cause direct violence and that you cannot reasonably control the indirect violence you may cause. if a product can be made without causing violence then we have to trust the manufacturer/supplier to do it in that way. the same way that we have to trust the government to do the right things with our taxes and we cannot control if they use our money to invade countries or anything like that.

Plants don't have pain receptors... Case closed... When plants react to sunlight that doesn't mean it feels the same a sentient creature does. It doesn't even get out of danger if something is in it's way, like being stomped up or catching on fire. Unlike plants, Sentient creatures have developed an entire neurvous system in order to protect themselves from danger and that is the reason why they feel fear and pain! How would you feel if a cannibal is preparing you to be slaughtered so that he may eat you up later?! You would feel genuine fear right?! Even if in the cannibal's mind, that he will try to slaughter you as merciful as he can, would you still willingly want to be his dinner?! God... have some empathy for your fellow sentient beings...

Hey Joey. Videos like these are so infuriating to me. How these people are attempting to take the focus of the conversation to something irrelevant is insane. With that being said, the man was right about the Congo mining and stuff. We should always try to be ethical especially when we are trying to be the ones who do the right thing. Currently on the market there is only one phone that is ethical and thats the Fairphone 4. I'm currently looking into it and it's definetly not a top tier phone but it's of respectable performance. I think I'm going to replace mine to that one so nobody can tell me that my phone is unethical haha.
I appreciate the guys ability to debate. He was very polite and respectful. He was giving a voice to the exploited children just like you were giving a voice for the animals. Both need to stop.
Never realized you came to Bristol, would really love to have met you! I just wanted to say, the guy said you can't get vegan jerk chicken, there's a place that's been in Bristol for years (literally a five minute walk from where you were) that does vegan/veggie Caribbean food called Fi Real. It'd be a proper good idea to be able to suggest vegan restaurants nearby when you go to different cities to make it more personal? Just a thought, keep planting them seeds!
I rarely comment but I actually agree with the woman who jumped in. I'm vegan and I absolutely stand up for the vegan philosophy by this is honest a little surprising what Joey is saying here. As Earthling Ed said, the atrocity of Auschwitz and the horrific slaughter of billions of animals a year can't be compared and shouldn't be compared. It demeans both events and suggests that is somehow important to compare them, which isn't the point at all. If a building is burning and there was a chicken inside and a human inside, of course, the person is of top priority. However, we live in a world where you can choose to hurt the human, hurt the chicken or hurt neither and THAT is the right choice. With that being said, slavery cannot be downplayed or treated like it is less severe of an issue than animal mistreatment. All suffering needs to be diminished, and I'm still processing why Joey attempted to kind of push down and compare the suffering of animals in factory farms with people whose lives are forsaken for slavery.
Whataboutism don’t apply. The topic is cruelty to chickens. Better luck next time. Save yourself the time and energy and don’t bother with a rambling response.

Animal exploitation is one of the most horrible things in the world.
And humans attempting to justify those atrocities is just another horrible thing.
Heres some quickies,
80% of soya grown is used to feed livestock anyway, so going vegan still means on average you're responsible for less consumption of soya.

Do you meditate or something Joey? I truly admire how calmed you remained during the whole conversation.
You handled this complex situation masterfully, optimally emphasizing the critical points for resistant listeners, taking care to never compromise the animals with an equivocation as the person who interrupted you tried to force. Thank you for posting this, such a beautiful demonstration in how to handle tu quoque.
Go Joey!
Thanks for sharing. Great conversations in difficult circumstances with multiple people trying to talk over you with disingenuous arguments. Happy Birthday for the other day too!💥💥🙏🏽💚🌱🤙🏽😎🌩🐃
_Protein tho_
Animals are full of protein because that's what they eat all the time - plants
We are full of protein because that's what we eat all the time - plants
Logic
Animal protein is higher quality and easier to digest.
If u can't even look at it, u probably shouldn't be eating it...Also, anyone who gets mad, defensive and angry when faced with the truth it is simply bc they hate being called a terrible person even though that is exactly what they are! 100% Hypocrites
🌱 I haven't missed eating any part of Animals in three years last August 💚
Give it two more.. that's when my degeneration kicked in. Even whole foods and chronometer couldn't save me! Funny.. The animal products did.
Lions don't breed creatures into existence for food.
They would if they could.
@@JESUSLOVESYOU219 Let me know when they do.
@@pajguitar you want me to let you know when something that will never happen happens? 😂

Non vegan always get on defensive and are aggressive 🙄joey i love your activism, always thank you 🙏
must be the all the meat making them angry
Joey is a TOP NOTCH debater and protector of The Animals- We Love You!!!!! Jenxoxoxo!
This selfhired " attorney " is beyond annoying.
This guy is doing OK on his own keeping the conversation, so woman, get f....ing lost!
Wow the people at the end.....
Thank you for watching to the end.
It’s impossible to wake someone who is pretending to be asleep.

Thank you Joey 🌺
I really liked what you did where you paused the video to clarify or address some other point that did not come up during the debate.
You should do that more often.
Really needed to say that he actually has an iPhone and forgot to say it at the time because it was so heated. But you’re right I will do this more often!
@@JoeyCarbstrong Found that man quite irritating when he then went on about rubber... I bet that doesn't stop him using it.
