Hey ZY,
What a downer! So much great but what a mess with the video.
The 8K mode loses the whole point of having a medium format camera.
The restrictions of some modes to not even get to 25p, do they not realise that most of the world is PAL/
50 hertz?
The 4K 60p does look great and the AF improvements are hugely welcomed. Not having full sensor open gate 4K up to 30p is a massively missed opportunity. It’s my favourite thing about the Xh2s!
Let’s be honest here though, the GFX 100 was overpriced compared to the 50s and this was shown with the 100s price being almost half. Is this worth £2000 more than the 100s for video? That’s the big question. If it had open gate or 8k full width then yes. For photographers I would say yes. For filmmakers it’s so close to being there but just misses.
I could be wrong and would love the chance to test it!
Thanks for the video and great meeting you last month!
Thanks for dropping by Philip! That’s a really good point you brought up about the original GFX100 being overpriced - I remember the 100s being announced and it was almost like a prank on everyone who paid full ticket for a GFX100!
Hope you get your hands on one soon! Real nice meeting you earlier - do take care!
They could probably make bigger camera with 2 processors fans and stronger battery that would alow them to exploit full potential of this sensor but they chosen not to. Because everyone was bitching on how big and expensive original was. This is what you get then.
@@adokapo that’s why they chose not to? Sure mate.
@@philipbloom i think so. It kind of looks like they listened to custumers. Why would they otherwise make small cheap version of the first 1 to begin with? This just building upon that. I am sure that sensor is capable for more if they had more processing cooling and more battery. They can and probably will fix many of the problems with firmware updates as they usualy do. But wouldnt be surprised if they make bigger camera again for 10k if enough people make noise about it.
@philipbloom totally get the disappointment. BUT: 4k 60 fps flog 2 internal 10 bit apple pro res codec in a medium format still seems like a gamechanger, don't you think?
You are a breeze to listen to
And stays informative and entertaining. I can't stand Kai W or Peter McKinnon... Kai just blabbers on with snippets of useful info while PM is just rich & pretentious...
Honestly I can't wait to try this out for weddings. I've shot weddings on the GFX 100s and it did well but it was just a tad slow. I think the 100ii is going to be PERFECT for styles of photography with more movement and speed involved.
Buuut file sizes?
One step ahead of ya buddy. :)
@@vpr5562 They're actually not that bad. Shoot in compressed RAW and also not in 16bit color and you're getting amazing results without massive files.
@@vpr5562 maybe not shooting an entire wedding with the gfx but a second body to couples portrait, maybe details etc etc, could be nice to pair with a XH2, for moments you need a little bit more speed
@@catbread2585 but you pay such a huge price for shooting a little in the wedding.
Excellent video! I love how you demonstrate the size of the cropped video modes to give us an idea of how large it is.
Love your storytelling, humour, sound effects! Very nice video!
The most precise video about GFX 100 II I've watched so far.
This is pretty awesome, I hope Waveform, the new AF and Anamorphic support comes to my XH-2s with firmware...
I love the GFX100, shot with it a few times and have created stunning images (product photography).
The fact that it has video is an extra in my eyes.
When I have a serious film job I'm not going to use a hybrid camera...
On set reliability is the most important factor in a shoot. Resolution is chosen before hand (exception to documentary) and framerate is also chosen beforehand.
Love that fuji created this beast of a stills camera and added some good film features to it for the fun of it.
When I get the chance I'll try it out.
(I've worked with Hasselblad and Phase One and Fuji Medium format and all of them produce amazing images. My only comlaint with Fuji was the delay when pressing the shutter... But thats a the processor, maybe it's better with this new one)
Thanks for the review and feedback 🤝
I think this camera is everything i've always wanted. Now i have to wait 5 years to afford one 👌
True! Same here
Wonderfully concise breakdown! Thank you for sharing
This camera looks so futuristioc, i love it
A great and balanced review, no over hype. Thanks!
You're very good at this man, I always enjoy to watch your concise analysis towards gear. I agree that is hard to complain at this price point. It's probably a hardware limitation. Still, I'm glad there's a brand that i love pushing boundaries of imagery.
Hey, what's the intro music? Shazam couldn't find it.
Fantastic introduction, very nicely done, thanks
Great video. Really insightful points. Thanks
Love the lighting here
Very insightful take on this.
That is beautiful video quality. Wow.
An informative camera review with a fantastic literature !
Used the GFX 100 II for my first wedding. Image quality is amazing! Auto focus is a lot better than it's predecessors, but does need getting use to.
Great video 👍🏼

Awesome video! It looks like with a few future firmware updates (which I know Fujifilm will do) this will be the ultimate medium format camera!
Badass review
WOW 😲
Talk about a great upgrade.
Love that they made it without grip and thet the kept the evf detachable.
Now it can pass for a compact camera and a sony A7C alternative 😅😅
GOD DAMN IT FUJI.... Just make a box style medium format cinema camera for video only :P and when you are at it, put all your film emulations in it please :D hehe
Just purchased this beast, unbelievable coming from gfx50s 😮
I'll take the 4K60 in 16x9 any day of the week, honestly. 15ms rolling shutter is INCREDIBLE.
I saw that Blackmagic video assist is now supporting the GFX100 II for shooting Blackmagic Raw. Any idea if it will read the full sensor?
I’ve been binging all the initial videos about this camera this morning and you’re the only person to point out the massive 8K crop which effectively renders the medium format cinema appeal useless
Useless? You need 8k that bad? Color me shocked.
Do you really need 8k at that point buy a RED or another true cinema camera. While I also find it a pointless resolution thats only included for more headlines I think the fact that the 8k not being able to render out the entire sensor is a benefit imagine the file sizes, heating issue, rolling shutter, and lenses you would need.
Very interesting camera.
... super video ! I wonder how much bigger the GFX 100 II is compared to the GFX 100s? I understand it is slightly heavier, I saw the numbers, but I would like to know how it feels holding both cameras in hand ...
such an interesting video about this great camera. A canon r5 or r6 fits my needs and budget more. As much as i'd like a medium format, i can probably only afford one every 10 years where as a r5 or r6 i can upgrade every other year without any issues. oh well first world problems, great channel! new sub here!
Go with Canon; you can’t even get Medium Format for video in any resolution/option on this camera anyways. So it gets cropped down to full frame, and even Super35 (for 8K).
Hey - talking about stills only would you choose the mark 2 vs the 100s?
Thanks!!
Warmest regards, Bogi
On the GFX 100 mark 1 the EVF would briefly go dark when taking a picture. Is that still the case?
how is rolling shutter compared to a A7r5?
All other UA-camrs out there that review equipment should be taking lessons from you. Great indepth analysis.
Hello Mr. Cheng! Thank you for this excellent intro to the Fuji GFX 100 II. As a Nikon Z System landscape, product and macro photographer, I have been quite satisfied with the image sharpness and detail I obtain from the Nikon Z System (Z7, Z8 and several lenses). However, as I do on occasion produce very large prints (30"x40" and up), I've always had an interest in medium format. So, in your opinion, do you feel that this GFX100 II would give me a very substantial improvement in image quality (particularly image sharpness and detail rendition) in the large prints, over either my Nikon Z System or the Hasselblad X2D? (Also, as I don’t shoot video, that’s another reason the X2D appeals to me, as well as the NCS of the Hasselblad files, since I’m somewhat colorblind, and I've heard other reviewers state that color-correcting the Fuji files would be a nightmare, and for me in particular!) Thank you!
I hope they bring some of those video tools to the XH2S!
Unlike full frame thats better suited for hybrid and enthusiast and pro user. Medium format better for commercial photography. In the future i plan on getting one myself.
Is it possible and how fast is wireless tethering to Capture One? Thanks! :)
Now we wait for anamorphic de-squeeze on the X-H2s, nice!
despite what the spec sheet from fuji says.... one youtube video mentioned that the 100II can shoot 20fps stills in 35mm crop mode (electronic shutter). Is there any way you could tell us if this is true?? Spec sheet says 8.7fps in that mode. Did you/can you test this??
Does it have Autofocus on Interval shooting?
please make a low light video test!!
Insane how the size is there too. Costs keep getting closer to FF. Just think in 10 years I can afford as used. Fujifilm has major respect from me. Who goes from APS-C to Medium Format? I always loved this company but certain quirks kept me away. But my these Medium Format is so much more. Not sure I would ever take full advantage of it. I would love to try one though.
Does it have ibis stabilization?
Extra points awarded for nearly pissing yourself
sad the video doesn't use the hardware yet - hopefully they drop a 50mp version with refined video usability. I'd buy that on launch day.
I imagine it's only one generation away from perfecting this camera for video. I hope that they can invest in releasing a cinema camera around the next generation with all its convinience, inputs, processing and cooling. Imagine being able to shoot films on medium format even for a couple minutes at a time. That'd be like having an imax camera available to consumers for 10-12k dollars. Oh and Fujifilm's film emulation would change the game.
it's fine. JUst think it's a medium format photography camera that has a buillt in fullframe video camera. If you are mostly a photographer at least you won't have to cary an extra camera with yo just for proper video.
Your vid confirmed my belief that MF is way slower than a FF like Sony a7iv or the R6ii, not only about the AF but also the responsiveness.
this camera with an 40mp sensor would be my dream
Man so disappointed to hear about the crop factors in video. I truly appreciate your insight into how that sensor and codecs are utilized. Truly hope the firmware will maybe update to fully realize the sensor in the future
the problem is... this is not a real medium format it was slightly bigger than full frame and smaller than the Hasselblad or phase one, i rather see Fuji can bigger their sensor instead just upgrade image processor that increasing the FPS
Such incredible camera and only 9:34 min... No AF deep test. You are complaining this camera but yourself you don't deepen into your review. Just a positive critique, nothing personal. You have great visual quality.
And that’s a lot to take in 😂
The grip texture looks EXACTLY like a GOYARD BAG 😭
Love this review as only you and guys from petapixel told about video crop factors but not loudly saying features vithout true picture
All what left is, making the menu simplified and straight forward
How feasable is it that Fuji will make a 12mp GFX video monster?
Pretty sure the engineering team on fuji are gritting their teeth at how much they can push the 5th gen processor before the camera has a meltdown.
thx for your insight but I have to say for $8000 its video performance is not good enough, I mean when it comes to video both the Nikon Z8&9 blow it GFX100ii out of the park and that's disappointing I'd say and defiantly better value for money is to get the 100sii and just film in 1080, but my question is how does say 1080 or 4k on a full frame caomare to medium format of say the 100ii thx
While this is great and all. I'm still waiting for Fuji to make a 35mm rangefinder style camera.
My cat pictures need something a bit more expensive to get the most out of my shoots to be fair
The grip looks like goyard 😂
So I own the original GFX 100…..the Auto Eye Focus Feature, in my opinion, really needs improvement…….am I the only one??
I had the first 50s and the first 100. The 50s was pretty good and better in image quality than the 100 probably because the lenses resolved better. I have no interest in the 100 2. It does not stand vs a Phase on quality, nor on the other hand, does it vs a Z9 or it’s Sony or Canon’s equivalents. Fuji is going after wedding photographers, and maybe their product with the image stabilization and the video fits well in the needs of that segment -where other more classical Mf cameras would not-.
.......but that 1/125 flash sync and 1/4000 max shutter - not great at all
This thing is beautiful. Sony, takes some notes.
X-H2s >
I thought it was a large format camera?
A high quality sports car, which stucks in traffic on rush hour.
anything larger than 35mm is medium format by definition
It crops less then Sony a7Rv. Knowing Fujifilms history they will probably polish it up with firmware updates in coming months and probably years to come. RIP Sony 😅
If they do not add the touch tracking autofocus in video mode to the X-H2s via Firmware, i am losing hope in fuji :/ number one feature the camera is missing
Frustratingly close. What they should do is to make a slightly cheaper version with maybe a 24mpx medium format sensor and then have really good rollingshutter and full Open gate options.
For wedding it’s way overkill… seriously.
For funeral its underkill.
It depends on who's wedding it is...
The thing is an animal of a camera but I won't trust the AF for a moment saying how bad my XH2s is
Fujifilm releases a better product with significantly less price.
Apple release a slightly better product with significantly more price each year.
The stabilization of the Hasselblad X2D is even better. Like: 1s = sharp.
the slow menu is UNFORGIVABLE.
this is NOT fuji's first camera.
How could they ruin this.
Its not medium format. Its crop sensor media
dunno why I am even watching this. I do not intend to buy this camera other than for photography. I do not do films. I do have to say though, I wish it had a flip out screen so I can close it or turn it around so I can take a huge selfie
lol, I was waiting for some images that will blow me away so I can put my trust in you to listen to the rest of the video, then I see crappy images of cats.
$10K for a huge beast so UA-camrs can show us average looks stills of cats.
First 😁
12.9.23
The music is very irritating when trying to listen to you
I do not want any kind of video functions, so the camera should be able to shut off all video functions and hide those in the menu system. Further the sensor should have been the Sony 153 megapixels sensor !
Who buys a 100mp stills focused camera to shoot video? It would have been so much better if Fuji omitted ALL video functionality and dropped the price by 30%. They would sell truck loads more IMO.
Why is Fuji developing every camera in the wrong direction? X-T series: second fiddle to X-H. X-Pro series: gimmick screen and no more magnifier in the OVF. GFX series: Video and less and less direct knobs and dials, instead more screens and add-ons....
This camera for sure do not worth 7500+$. Is overpriced. Video capabilities not as good as they asking the price.
Well... let me check my pocket.... to see is there $7,499? Nope...
pretentious
I stopped viewing and left a thumbs down at 2 mins. You seem to me to be articulate enough not to need reference your toileting mishaps. I'm really disappointed.
There are so many options for video capabilities in other brand camars also ... WHY MEDIUM FORMAT CAMARA TO BE NEEDED WITH SO HUGE MEGAPIXELS? ALL RUBBISH & EMOTIONAL MISLEADING IN THE NAME OF ADVANCE TECHNOLOGY...
It's a medium format camera and no one buys it to shoot videos, so complaining about these features is probably a bit idiotic
No photographer who has been on the market for several dozen years, 20-40, would be ashamed to talk such nonsense about video.
All these kids would like to have Christmas in the summer time.
top lcd was useful in the days when camera's didn't have rotating screens, now it's just useless tbh
