Purton Ships Graveyard | Gloucestershire

29th June 2023. After parking in Purton, it's a short walk along the Gloucester Sharpness Canal to the ships’ graveyard. Between 1909 and 1965 redundant vessels were beached on the foreshore and allowed to fill with silt. These formed a barrier to prevent the River Severn from eroding into the canal embankment.
