You're right, those crotches, knots and generally gnarly bits can take a lot of effort, slicing them with the saw makes it so much easier. Also your Ash is so much cleaner than mine, for some reason my two trees are absolutely covered in lichen, moss and general green slime, never seen trees so bad.
Mr. Wooly, do you still like the Husqvarna S2800 over the Fiskars X25? I like them both a lot, but I like the wider profile of the X25, I think it splits a little better.
I bought recently similar cheap, made in taiwan axe like yours husqvarna, its looks very similar profile to fiskars, and its sharp, light plastic handle, i love it, so far my favourite splitting axe for sure... 🪓
Some fine firewood there. Nothing like ash to burn in stove. The blocks actually glow white. There's something satisfying about splitting it as well.
