Arjun Raman imagine being a 2× world champion who beat Michael Schumacher (the most successful f1 driver ever) early in your career to then move on knowing how good you are but never having the car to win you another world championship and being at the back of the grid for almost half a decade - you'd be mad too
@@jamesw1940 his fault for leaving Ferrari to go to McLaren with an unproven Honda engine that was absent from F1 for years! He took a gamble and he lost he only has himself to blame
Let's not throw all the blame on Mclaren. EVERYBODY uses the same chassis, aero, gearbox. Engines are homologated as well. On Sunday they even got help from Andretti with dampers & Penske with setup. Fernando also crashed the car by himself costing himself practice time. Mclaren's biggest fuck up was taking too long to rebuild the car after the crash costing way too much practice time
I hope he dedicates himself to a full season, preferably with Penske or (If they can mend bridges) Andretti. Everyone in the in the series know he’s an amazing driver, he proved that in 2017, Plus the PR boost just from having him will be well worth the cost for of those teams. As long as he’s willing to take a pay cut (though I don’t know what he’s making now that he’s not actually driving from McLaren) as Indy pays much less than F1. I’ll be paying close attention during the next few months and hoping Something positive comes for the next year.
If he wants to win the Triple Crown he should drive full time Indycar for a year or so (and not only the Indy500). He is f*cking Fernando Alonso, a lot of teams would be proud if they can work with him for a year. Even if he leaves McLaren in this trouble.
Kyle Kaiser has in fact raced in the Indy 500 before. This isn’t his first time. He raced at least 1 or 2 previous years with Juncos Racing. I personally am not surprised he didn’t make the race due to the Mclarens lack of preparation
I predict Alonso will either be in a Penske or Andretti car in 2020. It's not certain if Helio is coming back to the 3 car after this year, so Penske might have an opening. Also keep in mind that the first McLaren to ever win the Indy 500 was operated by Team Penske. If Alonso maintains his McLaren-ties, there's already history to draw from. Once Alonso is out of the Toyota LMP1-program, he won't be prohibited from driving Honda-powered cars anymore. That's an opening for Andretti. Penske and Andretti have traded Indianapolis 500 wins since 2014. They obviously have the best shot at going for a win.
A couple corrections and notes. 1. Kaiser is in his 2nd Indy 500 now. 2. Let's not act like Alonso didn't have an unfair advantage compared to O'Ward and Chilton. He had Andretti dampers and a Penske setup on. All Andretti cars made the race and a Penske car won the pole position. O'Ward and Kaiser were literally running a road course car with an oval aero kit while Alonso's car was a car built for ovals. Also not mentioned is the fact that Charlie Kimball, Carlin's best entry qualified 20th, easily in the race. 3. Kaiser two days before qualifying flipped in a practice crash. The next day he was back out there. On Sunday morning practice, neither driver got much practice, Kaiser got none at all. Why does everyone try to keep making McLaren and Carlin look like amateurs? This is not completely on them.
The Andretti shocks and Penske setup went on Alonso's car last Saturday night. Zak and Gil told Alonso that this was going to go really well or go south in a hurry. Not sure if you read the AP interview with Zak Brown after the last row shoot out. It was a series of comedy of errors that sank McLaren before they even got to Indy. Carlin was ill-equipped to run three cars and provide technical assistance to a fourth car (McLaren). McLaren, from my understanding, attempted to forge an alliance with ECR but Ed Carpenter's asking price was too high which blew my mind. McLaren did come off looking like complete amateurs when you hear all the stories that went on with them.
Paul O I did read that article and it was absolutely hilarious. I still think McLaren is mostly to blame, but it’s hard to believe that a world-class driver with all the resources he had to miss the race. They had a 20 minute practice the morning of Bump Day and it took them like 10 minutes to get out there. I don’t understand that either. Badly prepared team pairs with a driver that is a sucky leader=Bumped.

He should definitely do Indy full time. That would also mean he could do Sebring, which several Indy drivers do. And he would come to Detroit where I live. Then he could do Formula E but I know I'm just dreaming there lol.
I was thinking about this yesterday, before I knew he failed to Qualify. With ''only'' Indy 500 left to round up his Triple Crown goal that he should try and get a seat in Indycar Series to get more experience with those cars and be close to the action
Because that worked out so well when he joined McLaren. Alonso is not that good at developing cars. He won both of his titles while driving a car that was developed by a test driver.
From what I read, the reason the backup wasn't ready was McLaren wasn't happy with the orange on the car so it was actually being painted. Not going to give it any speed, but having a car to actually work on goes a long way in actually racing in the 500.

I doubt it. Penske doesn't seem to want to run more than 3 cars full time, and the fourth at Indy is for Castroneves as long as he wants it. And even if one of the full time drivers got the boot, Penske has better options that have IndyCar experience, like Rossi.

Alonso is all about him, I only found out about McLaren's partnership with Carlin to be honest but Carlin themselves are at the back so there is no surprise Alonso didn't qualify. However, not having a chance to work with Andretti again was all his own doing. He was the one that consistently complained about Honda power units in F1. No team is willing to work with him but Carlin who had Lando Norris as their F2 driver last year so McLaren just decides to put that partnership together hoping for the best
Kimi Raikkonen in the tyre war from 2002-2006 was the fastest driver in F1. Lewis beat Fernando too. Alonso is overrated. Massively. Remember, he CRASHED in practice for the Indy 500. It's his fault too.
What do I think Alonso should do next? Stop being so arrogant. Yes he's one of motorsport's legends but his attitude has cost a lot and shut many options down in his career. His driving skill can only help on the track, his attitude is what has hampered his career.

Answer to your question from an English Indycar fan, he has to go full time if he wants to compete and McLaren has to go full time if they want to compete they need to learnt he car more as a group
Alonso is just too overconfident and cocky. He thinks it's just too easy. He can just jump into whatever car and win. He doesn't want to put any time or effort (relatively speaking) into the team. I have started having the feeling that he ruined McLaren even further than they had, themselves. He might have brought in sponsorship, but he ruined the team's direction by interfering and his impatience and consequently ruined Vandorne's career too. I'm happy McLaren is doing well without him. He's just after glory after his lack luster career post 2006 (Of course, there were standout moments and I'm not questioning his talent and speed). He should probably find something he genuinely enjoys racing in and stick with it. Find a good team and just drive. If not, just retire altogether and be a brand ambassador or something like that.
I reckon Alonso should have a crack at the Bathurst track, here in Australia. If it’s in the Supercars for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000. His best bet is with Walkenshaw Andretti United (I’m a Ford guy but he knows Zac and Andretti who part own the team, btw it’s a Holden team or even yet with DJR TEAM PENSKE, which is a Ford team) or its in the Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour in a GT3 car. There are talks of a Bathurst 24 hour. Either way Bathurst.
Team up with Penske. Great Indycar team, great in NASCAR, great in IMSA, great in V8 Supercars (which Alonso has mentioned participating in), and I believe Penske has ties with the Geox Dragon team and Fernando would be incredible to watch in Formula E
The McLaren car also spent two days in a paint shop becuase it turned up and was "the wrong shade of orange". So instead of testing at Texas they lost two days getting the car resprayed.

@@MX304 They said that about Montoya too before he joined them.
DefNotJake reading between the lines of his WEC announcement, Alonso has no interest in going full-time in Indycar for a 16 round season.

Alonso deserves this defeat after how he treated honda
Arjun Raman imagine being a 2× world champion who beat Michael Schumacher (the most successful f1 driver ever) early in your career to then move on knowing how good you are but never having the car to win you another world championship and being at the back of the grid for almost half a decade - you'd be mad too
@@Sebastian_Torr 'after how he treated Honda'
You mean like shit as it is?
@@jamesw1940 his fault for leaving Ferrari to go to McLaren with an unproven Honda engine that was absent from F1 for years! He took a gamble and he lost he only has himself to blame
Let's not throw all the blame on Mclaren. EVERYBODY uses the same chassis, aero, gearbox. Engines are homologated as well. On Sunday they even got help from Andretti with dampers & Penske with setup. Fernando also crashed the car by himself costing himself practice time. Mclaren's biggest fuck up was taking too long to rebuild the car after the crash costing way too much practice time
It's only a minor mistake, but Kyle Kaiser did compete in last year's Indy 500 with Juncos racing.
JuggernautDE Alonso, reading between the lines of his WEC announcement, has no interest in a 16 round season.
@@Ewane i think that just like you, but i think this would be the best and easiest way
I would love to see him compete in the WRC, like what Kimi Räikkönen did years ago.
He mentioned he wants to do a few WRC rounds with Toyota in addition to his Dakar bid next year.
"I think we should pit and look at the conditions. Even if you put a rocket ship we will still be 11th"
Kyle Kaiser has in fact raced in the Indy 500 before. This isn’t his first time. He raced at least 1 or 2 previous years with Juncos Racing. I personally am not surprised he didn’t make the race due to the Mclarens lack of preparation
The reason is simple
The car is secretly powered by a sandbagging WILLIAMS engine
But the Williams engine is the same that powers Mercedes' car...
William's engine ? Wtf is that 😂
And yeh it's a Mercedes engine dickhead
Zak Brown needs to go ASAP
McLaren is Alonso’s kryptonite. Get out of there Fernando!!!

Thank you for explaining so clearly
Alonso should run ALL the oval speedway races with McLaren to get as much delicious data and experience as possible. Not doing so will mean a repeat if/when he comes back next year.
While he shares responsibility.. he didnt say the car was the wrong shade of orange.
His contract with Toyota ended for the WEC, but some people say that he might compete in the Dakar the next year with Toyota, and with a friend that is a 2 time WRC and 2 time Dakar winner (Carlos sainz) giving him some tips, he might actually do quite well, even the mechanics Toyota uses in the Dakar said that they have never ever seen someone going so fast on his first attempt in a Dakar competing vehicle
INDY LIGHTS ENGINE.... WAAAHH
He should definitely do Indy full time. That would also mean he could do Sebring, which several Indy drivers do. And he would come to Detroit where I live. Then he could do Formula E but I know I'm just dreaming there lol.
I'm first something I won't be able to say about Nando at Indy:(
I was thinking about this yesterday, before I knew he failed to Qualify. With ''only'' Indy 500 left to round up his Triple Crown goal that he should try and get a seat in Indycar Series to get more experience with those cars and be close to the action
Mclaren took 2 whole days painting the back up car instead of practicing

Lets go back to "Run what you brung" Oh the good old days and the sweet sound of the Turbine Cars.
Even if he qualified he was not getting the triple crown by winning indy
That car is slower than Williams
Great explanation
Alonso should join first join and then leave Williams so that they become good again.
Because that worked out so well when he joined McLaren. Alonso is not that good at developing cars. He won both of his titles while driving a car that was developed by a test driver.
Are you stating a truth or doing irony on me?
@@rajkumarirangwani2739 First sentence is doing the irony ;)
I think that he will do many indy races this year to be very confident for next year's indy 500
Welp at least we have Ericcson driving
From what I read, the reason the backup wasn't ready was McLaren wasn't happy with the orange on the car so it was actually being painted. Not going to give it any speed, but having a car to actually work on goes a long way in actually racing in the 500.
only thing to say... never disrespect the Japanese Engine
If it doesn't respect you, you should be disrespectful to an object.
I agree so much because if Alonso wants to win he has to be with a good team that runs at all races not just the Indy 500

Yes, but he was in a patched together car with no sponsor... He's raced before but still, he knocked out a 2 time F1 champ and a big team.
Hey, at least the P1 exists to make up for F1.
Come on, no arguing with that, Matt.
The difference in lap times, this year, between the pole sitter and the back marker is 1.8 seconds.
He should go to NASCAR and race in the Daytona 500
There's an interview with Jeff Gordon. That he said he isn't interested in doing NASCAR or Daytona 500. He said he didn't like it
I think Roger Penske will give Alonso a car for next year's race and bring him in full time for 2021
I doubt it. Penske doesn't seem to want to run more than 3 cars full time, and the fourth at Indy is for Castroneves as long as he wants it. And even if one of the full time drivers got the boot, Penske has better options that have IndyCar experience, like Rossi.

I Wonder if we should still call this : McLaren. What a shame for this Historic Racing Team
He should try and do formula e for the rest of 2019 and go to Indy at full time 2020
Alonso is all about him, I only found out about McLaren's partnership with Carlin to be honest but Carlin themselves are at the back so there is no surprise Alonso didn't qualify. However, not having a chance to work with Andretti again was all his own doing. He was the one that consistently complained about Honda power units in F1. No team is willing to work with him but Carlin who had Lando Norris as their F2 driver last year so McLaren just decides to put that partnership together hoping for the best
Ideal Future:

This was terrible, Alonso deserves so much better.
Team up with Penske. Great Indycar team, great in NASCAR, great in IMSA, great in V8 Supercars (which Alonso has mentioned participating in), and I believe Penske has ties with the Geox Dragon team and Fernando would be incredible to watch in Formula E
He failed to qualify because others' time were faster than his..
The McLaren car also spent two days in a paint shop becuase it turned up and was "the wrong shade of orange". So instead of testing at Texas they lost two days getting the car resprayed.
