Loved this game. Had it for C64 and it is one of my all time favorites.

I agree, for the time this came out there was nothing that could compare to it short of actual live D&D.

I played this on C64 as a kid in 1990-91. Then again as an adult around 2002. I just started Pool of Radiance again last week due to Covid-19 isolation. Curse will be next!
On C64 I used to copy the characters with the best weapons, hand the weapon to another character, then delete the character and reload his original save with a copy of the item still, thus giving me a way to duplicate magic items. Ended up with everyone having +5 swords.

I've got the same idea, great game to play while the world ends.

Flawless, entertaining critique of this oft-overlooked computer gemstone

Remember playing this on the C64 a lot. It swept you along with its story, unlike Pool of Radiance, which was not very plot driven. I think I got to the fourth sigil and then kept getting killed by hordes of salamanders! Thanks for the memories

This was helpful. I'm buying a commodore 64 maxi for this game.

I remember this was a game I enjoyed a lot, I remember Myth Dranor being the hardest part in the whole game and I loved every second of it! Thanks for reviewing such a classic game, one that has been my favorite SSI game

Thanks for posting this interesting video. With this game the programmers cheated big time. D&D is a written rules based game and the dungeon master is supposed to be an impartial referee and not the ruler of Hades. Despite this the coders decided to unilaterally remove the players gear and have them awake naked in an inn. There is nothing in the rule book that would allow this. Players that used a disk editor to restore their gear and added a few more bottles of Dust of Dissapearance as compensation were just responding to the company's massive cheating. Gameplay was much smoother after the illegally stolen gear was righfully restored.

Watch overusing the "haste" spell lol, I remember when I first realized my human wizard had aged to decrepit in no time!

Thanks DOSBoxMom! Well, "Let's Plays" have a different expectation level since there really isn't any editing. I enjoy watching your playthroughs when I have the time!
Wow, that is interesting that the C64 version of POR included a demo. I never did have a C64, just PCs. Luckily there are plenty of DOS games to go around!

Since you're awesome with the hex editor, do you think it would be just a matter of changing a value for each character so it would tell the game that your characters have been through Hillsfar? I've been reading that Curse features several extra journal entries as well as some extra help in a couple battles if it detects Hillsfar characters. Unfortunately, due to the Amiga version of Hillsfar coming out prior to the Amiga versions of Pool and Curse, I was not able to transfer any characters to or from Hillsfar. I imagine it would be a simple hex edit to unlock that stuff. A request for a future hex adventure!

Thanks, Shot97! Hmmmm, very interesting concept. It probably is a simple flag somewhere. I'll definitely look in to that, as I've never heard of this. Thanks for the idea/request!

Loved Curse, though after the grand adventure of Pool,I thought it ended much too soon. But then Silver Blades dragged on too long. Was not a fan of the overhead static map, which many of the games adopted.I really liked the zoomed overhead in Pool the best,or Blades where there is no map.Interesting, used to think the Amiga version was a straight port of DOS,since it wasent as pretty as Pool, but it did look better then DOS,just not as polished.Always preferred the Amiga versions of Gold Box games
