Struggle to Feel/Activate Your Glutes?

It’s actually really a common thing and can be caused by a few different reasons, but before you reach for a list of glute isolation exercises, one of the best ways to build glute awareness is most important things to do is to PLAY around with certain positions! See can you increase your mind-butt connection!
Try not to overthink about muscles being “switched off” if your glutes were actually “off” you would just fall over everytime you tried to stand up.
Lack of awareness is more likely the issue, and simply practicing contracting them and using exercises with a glute focus you can really increase your confidence.
Another issue you might encounter is working so hard, always doing your glute accessory exercises but never seeming to make any progress or improving your glute function. This is almost certainly due to doing your accessory exercises incorrectly. You shouldn't just “do exercises” for the sake of doing them - actually break everything down and ask yourself what should you be getting from an exercise and what has to work in order to actually be doing the exercise properly!
Sometimes slowing things down and even closing your eyes is all you need, not new fancy exercises.
Also take note if one side is a champion and the other side is more like a cheerleader, that’s when you can start to run into pelvis twists, overly dominant sides and back pain - and you’d be surprised how many are not aware of if they have a stronger glute on one side or not!
Take some time to increase your glute connection and remember muscles don’t just work in isolation, for some it’s just easier to sense your quads or hamstrings more, it does not mean your butt isn’t working.

No idea how someone gave a thumbs down as everything here makes complete mechanical sense and if more people in the gym understood this, people would have far more efficient workouts

Your intro to this video is totally spot on! I'm noticing the same thing in myself that it isn't that my body is really weak, its that I have lost awareness and the mind/ muscle connection to certain muscles including the glutes and stabilizing muscles which then affects the mobility and function of everything else. I had no idea how important it is to focus on muscle imbalances.

Great video... Doesn't make sense why my R glute struggles compared to my left yet it is my left hamstring that has the issues?! Haha!

Not only do you have all same side issues you also have opposing sides so for the likes of contralateral movements your weak glute side could be being heavily compensated by the other side. So your left hamstring is picking up the slack of the right glute, potentially you could have calve weakness on your right side too if you haven’t tested it

Hey anything on activation, of only 1 glute ? I try but my active glutes seems to take on all the work?

you can basically do all the exercises in this video, but as a single leg version! Focus on the side that struggles, especially with the standing/kneeling squeezes, until you can start to get some activation 💪🏻

Great info. Stick to front facing camera work. Side view adds nothing.

Such great advice. Especially for band technique. So many people arching their backs

Oh yeah! Something I totally didn’t really grasp an understanding of until I injured my back and could really really feel the difference!

What's the best way of making one glute stronger If it's currently weaker than the other?

Awesome!! Yeah it’s really just getting your brain to realise all that’s going on down there then it’s able to organise things better as you’re actually training! 😄😄
