Brian is the best! He did my checkout in a J a couple of years ago. Super great guy with loads of knowledge and experience. Circumnavigate the globe in a single engine plane? Heck yes.
I typically use some rudder in the flare in my Mooneys and let the rudder out when she starts to settle for a nice smooth touchdown. I think the reason it works is that it splits the touch between wheels and relieving the pressure increases lift slightly. The Rocket likes to lose airspeed in a hurry when you get down below 80kias. I recommend getting an O2D2 unit for your oxygen. My O2 lasts 5-10x as long with it.
it will run LOP...once through peak EGT keep leaning until about 50 degrees LOP. If he TIT starts to climb again..this is called the "Second Peak"...that is the point where the engine is TOO lean and must be slightly richened. The TIT starts to climb because the mixture is so lean that one of the two plugs can no longer ignite it...the effect is the same as shutting down one of the mags which causes EGT's and TIT's to rise
TSIO 520 NB doesn't like lean of peak, fly it like continental recommends & you will make it to OH, you will get burned valves otherwise . Also all the area around the turbo will be burned .

Yeah he's pretty awesome. He knows every rivet on the M20K - probably better than some of the engineers that worked at Mooney!
I just bought a Mooney and my first landing was nerve racking. Sweet job landing that biscuit.
Your Rocket is a fabulous thing... what an asset to you Sir!
Thanks! It's a beast for sure!! When it's not in the shop...:)

"Gear down, full stop." I get the feeling this guy was a military aviator. :)
Nope. Just a pro CFII.
"I'll get your flaps for ya" ... "No thanks" would have been my answer.
lol

GAMI proved that is not true, all engines can with proper technique.
Nice landing!
Thanks - very fun airplane to fly!
