Beautifil plane in a perfect condition. In WW2 very silent and precision night bomber. Pilot Mikhalenko K. made 995 kombat mission on this plane.

With only 100hp, I imagine it makes the Tiger Moth feel like a hot ship. Stall speed is much the same, and so is the weight. Roll's probably a bit sharper, with ailerons on top and bottom. The cockpit's likely draughtier, given the absence of doors.

I've never seen one of these in the flesh before, but I've flown a Tiger Moth and a Stearman, how does this compare in handling and performance?

Flown in combat by women pilots in WWII, amazingly. Called the "Night Witches".
See July 14, 2013 NYTimes, Europe section, "Nadezhda Popova, WWII ‘Night Witch,’ Dies at 91"

Was the compressed air bottle the way it was started when it was built in the 1930s, or was this added later?

Its funny how these planes gave the americans a real good pounding in Korea during middle of the night they would glide and and drop a good payload over the enemy who expected nothing else, these were the drones of their day.
Almost impossible to detect on the radar back then too because of its wooden structure.

soviet era specifications for this aircraft as reported to stalin
shvetstov r119 7 cyl radial rated at "just under 100 metric tons of thrust"
    takeoff roll mtow..1foot
max rate of climb 45000 ft per min, 51000 when patriotic zeal of pilot is factored in
fuel.. 87 octane petrol, once air born switches to to "total and unwavering adherence to party doctrine and the completion of the five year plan"
    max speed ..in a dive 87 knots w/o zeal, w/zeal 1385 mph,
landing speed / not relevant or calculated
glide ratio../falls like a brick unless at full throttle
handling characteristics = elevons rudder and trip unresponsive at all airspeeds, rated top 2 best handling soviet aircraft by test pilot nikolai illushin.."she flew like a brick..but she was a good soviet brick"..(translated through speaking tube)
please feel free to correct me if im incorrect on any of these specs
