It's hard to call yourself a grown man when this song forces a tear. I own every album released. I almost feel like I would've offed myself without artists like this. Battling depression is no bullshit ladies and gentlemen. It can crush an individual. Songs like this help people to better understand that they are not alone. Dislike because I could f*ckin care less. THANK YOU DALLAS GREEN for helping me better understand what I am going through. That's all. Thanks for posting this video WFUVRADIO
⚠️LYRICS⚠️ I fear I'm dying of complications Complications due to things I've left undone That all my debts will be left unpaid Feel like a cripple without a cane I'm like a jack of all trades Who's a master of none Then there's my father He's always looking on the bright side Saying things like "Son, life just ain't that hard" He is the grand optimist I am the world's poor pessimist You give him burdensome times And he will escape unscarred I guess I take after my mother I guess I take after my mother I used to be quite resilient Gain no strength from counting the beads on a rosary And now the wound has begun to turn Another lesson that has gone unlearned But this is not a cry for pity or for sympathy I guess I take after my mother I guess I take after my mother I guess I take after my mother I guess I take after my mother
this has literally always been one of my favourite city and colour songs and for some reason I've never listened to an acoustic version until now. It never really occurred to me, this is brilliant.
Dallas deserves more than he gets. People don't know real music anymore, the only music that succeeds in todays day and age is songs that have some repetitive beat or autotune. This guy can sing, play the banjo, the harmonica, the piano, the drums, percussion and all different types of guitars, he is talent and pure genius.
This song brings tears to my eyes for the past 10 years. When this man say wooooo I guess I take after my mother I break. Thanks for such a great song.
I will do my very best to make my child take after me in finding such artists and experience such joy and amazement time and time again. Outstanding. Perhaps I will show him/her this.
Dallas Green pours so much emotion into his songs. Makes me tear up every time I hear one of his songs hearing the power and emotion woven throughout the whole song
There is no difference when true talent is involved, yet Dallas is above that. His live performances are not only as good as his studio recordings, but much much better. Pure Beauty.
I saw him in North Bay my hometown last year a few hours from Toronto. You are very true to say Canada recognizes and loves him more here. But i personally believe from personal experience and ive heard from other people that we appreciate our Canadian musicians and those who visit alot more then most places.
There's a kid who plays this in my street along with other Dallas green songs, been doing it since last year. He sounds exactly like him. So I guess I kinda know what it's like to stand in front of Dallas green and listen to him live for a few songs.
Ok it’s 2022 and this guy is playing in St. Catharines this weekend with his old band a.o.f I can hear them from my building I’m soo jealous there’s nothing like this guy he is music
his life mustve not been that good at one point, all his songs are depressing as fuck, but at the same time they pick you up when youre depressed. his music is truly a life saver
This man is awesome, not the awesome we use today like "man this burrito is awesome" but truly awesome in the traditional sense of the word, a word that should be reserved for things that leave us going fuuuuuccckkk. Thank you Dallas
Dallas is a Musician. He was a punk back in the day and liked the heavy stuff; didn't we all? Point is he pumps out great songs and I expect he will keep doing so for a long time to come.
one of the few artists that actually sounds better live than on the record
Amen!
he's best doing his thing with his guitar and voice alone!
Confirmed
Wet Bandits is another
He is amazed
So many years have passed… still makes an impact. Thank you Dallas. Peace to all of you that commented now decades ago. ❤
the first time I ever heard a City and Colour song I thought "So this is the kind of music that musicians listen to"
Very good, grasshopper.
you have become a wise and deadly hornet with a hard shell
His voice is just perfect to me and I don't know why.
It makes me smile and feel good. I would turn into a blubbering idiot if someone sang like that to me...
because it's perfect

⚠️LYRICS⚠️
I fear I'm dying of complications
Complications due to things I've left undone
That all my debts will be left unpaid
Feel like a cripple without a cane
I'm like a jack of all trades
Who's a master of none
Then there's my father
He's always looking on the bright side
Saying things like
"Son, life just ain't that hard"
He is the grand optimist
I am the world's poor pessimist
You give him burdensome times
And he will escape unscarred
I guess I take after my mother
I guess I take after my mother
I used to be quite resilient
Gain no strength from counting the beads on a rosary
And now the wound has begun to turn
Another lesson that has gone unlearned
But this is not a cry for pity or for sympathy
I guess I take after my mother
I guess I take after my mother
I guess I take after my mother
I guess I take after my mother

I seen them with my son at red rocks amphitheater, amazing show , beautiful venue , unforgettable memories
This is just too good, I always have to come back and give it a listen
It's funny to think that he was the singer of a hardcore metal band and he can still sing like and angel
Yeah, but he still sings like this in alexisonfire , george does the screaming
*Post hardcore*, not hardcore metal

21 people have issues with their musical tastes, this is amazing
Most incredible voice.
Still my favorite Folk Acoustic Artist of all time. Most of my music is inspired by this man.
There is no difference when true talent is involved, yet Dallas is above that. His live performances are not only as good as his studio recordings, but much much better. Pure Beauty.
When he branched off on his own it really impressed me. He’s an excellent musician and great writer.
Dallas Green has such a beautiful voice and talent, everyone should love this, its truly amazing.
