Hurricane Debby Damaged my workshop

  • Watch the aftermath of Hurricane Debbie and see real footage from my farm taken with a Drone.
    Some items floated away. But everything can be replaced or rebuilt. No live was lost and I'm staying positive on what's to come. I got a new fan to dry the things that got wet ;-)
    I also got my lawnmower back and started cutting the grass. All items I built stood strong during the rain and are well off. The soil is not fully dried yet, and using the tractor just makes a big mess, so I'm cleaning up by hand. Watch all the updates in the Video.

    I finally found use for the Hardwood that I cut while using my chainsaw a while back. It’s an exotic hardwood from the elephant ear pod tree. It look like a redish walnut. It has live edge all around it since it’s a cookie. I used resin and coffee bean to fill the imside crack for a unique look. Then I attached table legs.
    The naked/transparent Woodworker- naked? Because i show all of mt mistake i make along the way so you can learn and dont make the same, saving you time and money.
    FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSE ONLY- a women showing woodworking techniques In everyday clothing made for women. Sanding lumber while doing light hip movements for fun. Everybody is encouraged to copy the movements to enjoy the task of sanding a bit more. You might be surprised and start smiling. Not for sexual gratification!

    Hi Meike! Oh my! It's so sad to see all of the damage, flooding, and over-growth to your property. Having lived in Florida for 17 years, I've seen this more times than I care to count. I'm happy however to see that smile on your face, even with all of the clean up and work ahead of you. Be careful with all of that standing water since it harbors ... snakes! Take care my dear! 😉

    Just completely admire your attitude after finding that mess. To many it would have disheartening to come home to that. Debby did a ton of damage all the way up here in NY, we had flooding, bridges washed away, railroad tracks destroyed by dirt washing out under them and houses moved off their foundations.

    Bonjour Meike. Olivier.

      @@WhatMeikeMakes it's all good to look into for sure, the only drawback is that perennial grass may or may not tolerate the heat in your area, but they have all that info on the sales sites.
      perennial dwarf grass also makes it almost impossible, due to the deep and thick roots, for weeds to take hold!

    I didn't realize you would be away with no one looking after the property for months...Probably a good idea to make sure you secure the plants/trees in pots by using concrete blocks to keep them from turning over with the wind. The water, you probably figured it out, you will need to dig a small drain ditch around the planting areas and buildings to allow flow...Wouldn't have helped with the flood but it would have let the water move off after. it will be back to normal soon...until the next hurricane....

    • @WhatMeikeMakes
      @WhatMeikeMakes  Місяць тому +2

      I didn't plan to stay away for that long but the trip kept extending and I definitely did not prepare the property to be away for that long. I also wasn't prepared for the flooding. But I learned out of it. Will do better next time

    From the opening shots of the video i was wondering how the honeybees were doing . We end up with everything storm related that comes up the coast or across Canada here in Nova Scotia. This seems to be the place where flooding is common, and all storms release their final furry. But don't take me wrong it is a beautiful moderate climate here with ocean all around and a excellent growing season even if it's shorter than down south.

      Yes, they are doing great. The honey tastes so different from commercial honey. In Germany flooding was very common too. So I'm kind of used to it. Maybe I wasn't as prepared as I should be, but I will work on that

      @WhatMeikeMakes most commercial honey has some form of sugar add because sugar is cheap and most people don't know what real honey tastes like. It's also same here with maple syrup .
