  • In this video, we take a quick snippet from an interview we did with Steve Sherk Jr.
He discusses his strategy to hunting scrapes in hill country and how he tries to find the 'magic' scrape every year.
Pennsylvania deer hunting is not an easy task for even the most seasoned hunter, but the public land opportunities in PA are too big to not be ignored. That's why we had to meet up with Steve Sherk and talk about hunting big woods bucks at his family's historic PA deer hunting camp.
Steve has been hunting Pennsylvania public land in the Allegheny National Forest for many years with a strong level of success.
Finding and hunting PA public land bucks is no easy task, but Steve has proven his ability of finding high caliber bucks in the big woods of Pennsylvania.
    In the video we discuss:
    - Hunting Scrapes on Public Land in Late October
    - Finding Bucks in the PA mountains
    - Using Trail Cameras to Find Bucks on Public Land

Staging/Bedding scrapes are worth hunting over just about any time. Field edge scrapes or scrapes on a old logging trail, majority of activity is being made during the night.

Safety is key for a buck to hit scrapes during the day. They don't go fully nocturnal they just stay away from the pressured areas and keep their core area tighter and will one hundred percent move to a different spot if they leave that area and danger is present near it they will run for miles at night because they smelled something dangerous near their core area and they will find a new one

At 8:10. He said he hit a giant. A 150 160 and never found it. But hunted the next day and shot a big 8... Does anyone see a problem with that? I'd think someone should spend more time looking for the first buck.

This year on October 8th cold front shot a mature buck hitting a scrape he came in 25 yards stopped and checked that scrape then walked about 19 yards to hit it and worked till his death! Right next to thick heavy bedding cover he got up and came right to it. I heard him get up out of bed

Is it possible to get a response back on some issues with my Render cameras? I have sent several emails, texts and calls but the voicemail box is full. It’s been over a month that I have tried reaching out. It’s a bit frustrating to see returns to comments on UA-cam within the hour but us customers with non working cameras wait months for service.

I'm hunting a small public parcel right now and then deer have been pressured they literately are using the edge of the river that is not about 8 inches wide between water and a 40 foot wall of clay roots and vines. They are using that to travel now. Id be naive to think I'm the only one that knows this is but it won't be long before the guys out there heading in with a west wind at their back scare them all off the parcel and into Private. I set up on a nice funnel where the drain ends into the river so I'm hoping for some good north west wind and a slight drizzle with a massive temp drop here very soon.

He said that it has never been that good again. Funny he says that bc I found a spot like that almost identical story ... walked in there it was being hammered with rubs so I put a cam up and when I pulled that card I about crapped myself ... the amount of bucks and quality was unreal . I hunted that spot a few times couldnt connect due to lack of knowledge that I know now . But the reason. It hasn't been that good again is human intrusion. Atleast that's what I beleive . I'm going to try to stay out of that area for a year or two and see what happens. But love the content .

That spot isn't as good as it was before you found it because you started going there more often leaving scent all the way there. They pattern you and they remember danger.

He ain't wrong I've been hard-core for 24 years. Last year starting the 15th of October scrapes were on fire almost shot a 160 10pt hitting a scrape then got a shot at a 145 9 ptr hitting a scrape few days later. Didn't kill a buck last year but man I had alot of monster buck encounters all on public. I'll start posting more shorts check my channel fellas. Indiana public
