  • This is a very important sketchbook, because this is the first one that I have fully completed after 8 years. Not since art school! And it is because I switched completely to digital art during my career and lost my skills in sketching.
However, as I mentioned in previous videos, last year I decided to learn to traditionally paint. One of my goals was to also commit to drawing in a sketchbook as a way to ease myself into the world of traditional art.
This sketchbook was an outlet for me to make mistakes, explore my new style, and figure out the world of traditional art. Because of it, I am now illustrating picturebooks traditionally!
I hope you enjoy this little tour of my art!

So refreshing to hear you didn’t finish a sketchbook for 10 years! I work in a lot of different ones simultaneously and have yet to finish one!

Congrats! I love your sketchbook and your digital art. I think your very talented. And Id like to reach some of your books.
I like how down to earth you are, and how you were willing to also share pictures you were not too pleased with.
I really like your art with the little girls and pretty women and yoir flowers and buses and architecture etc. Especially since they are so unique looking and Im not use to seeing them. It takes guts pishing past your comfort zone and I applaud you.
Im an 80s baby and I loved to sketch, draw and paint traditionally. I did this mainly from when I was a young kid before I could read until my teen years I even made picture books that told a story.
I also had a old type writer I used to write short story, plays or poems.
I had many sketchbooks filled and completed.
I had tons of paintings over the years. You only needed to look at my hands and see I was an artist who did it regularly.
But then I got more into music ballet, jazz tap, theater cheerleading etc and sort of lost touch with art. Snd as time passed. Lost my confidence.
Ive never went to art school or took any course's.
    I was self taught.
Although it was nice to have alot of shades of paint. I was cool with mixing paints to get the color I wanted. I was a tradirion amateur artist back in the day.
But now I find myself wanting to recapture an old hobby of mine.
I dont know anything at all about digital art.
Though it does look way more easier than the traditional painting and sketching I use to do.
I am interested in leaening more about it and what programs are best for digital art.
Ive heard of Proceate but I know there is others.
Truth is, I would love to kearn how to become a amateur writer an illustrator for chikdrens books and what options are out their for us?
Ive heard of KDP Amazon self publishwrs and book baby self publisher.
Ive heard its important to get an editor and market yoir book before you publish.
But for an amateur, what would any of you suggest.
I dont have the means right now to foek out hours and thousands of dollars.
Though ot would be nice to know regardless about the buisness. But is their a cheaper way to go about this kf I can do as mich of it as possible on my own?
I want to first practice my art and get back into painti g and sketching.
So much has changed over the years. And I would really like some advice on what sketch books both large and medium size are the best with white or ywllow pages that dont bleed into the next page.
And what suggestions of pens etc do you suggest for each Sketchbook?
I truly want all of yalls suggestions so I can write them down and search for your suggestions when I go to the store to get a couple.
I also want suggestions on what ipads work the best for illistrating chikdrens pocture books for digital art.
And is there any available course to take or pay for to grow and learn both about digital art or traditional art.
And when it comes ro painting and colors. If yall have any suggestions or youtube video links to share with me that gives info I might find helpful. Please share it with me.
The past 10 years have been really hard for me since my mother passed away back in 2013.
She was my best friend and comrade. Over the years the rest of my family i was closest too since birth has also passed away.
I just about loss the will to live because I missed them so much.
But Im a fightwr and Im still here. I lived on autopilot for a long time but Ive started to gain a new appreciation for life. I want to live again more fully. And maybe get to know my old self again. The artist I let go of years ago. I want to make my mother in heaven proud and do something I not only would enjoy. But if I could some how gain the skills and learn how to go about creating a chikdrens picture book novel and how to get it out there in childrens hands, Id really live to reach out and help and inspire children in many ways.
I just dont know how to take these desires and make them happen.
Does anybody have any advice for me?

As someone who normally works digitally I understand not finishing a sketchbook for a while 😅 But that's just cos I'm drawing on a screen usually. I DO regularly finish my physical sketchbooks whenever I am struck with the "traditional art bug" - because my aim is never to make my sketchbook a diary or an artbook where the paper must be perfect and everything must be beautiful... My sketchbooks are for working out ideas, some messy some good, cos it's just paper! If I run out of paper I buy another and work out more ideas 😊 It MAY have diary moments in it if I take it out an about.. It may have indulgent artwork and 'finished' stuff in it too! But usually, I'm trying out different ideas for stuff in different media so I always buy mixed media sketchbook so I can be free in it and use whatever I feel like, or whatever I have to hand.. If I have a pen, I use it. If pencils, I use them. If watercolour or gouache, I use that! Whatever I'm feeling like. Cos... It's a "sketch-book" 😁 And cos art is fun!! Haha❤
On that note, does videoing or photographing your sketchbook make you put unconscious pressure on yourself for stuff to be 'good' (to your standards?)

@@AnooshaSyed I have a "messy" sketchbook for jotting down ideas and quick sketches (though I have finished a couple of those).
1 that's bigger than I'd like so I use it for practicing from references.
1 with pages relating to different artists, with some masters studies and notes on learning I want to take away from them.
1 is supposed to be a travel sketchbook book but is currently empty despite going on several trips.
1 that's nearly full that has more "finished" pieces in it.
And I'm just starting a new one that's very small and square. I'm going to use it for Peachtober (Furry Little Peach's October prompt list)
