    Sunspot Cycle 25 continues to provide good propagation, between the solar flare disruptions. The 10-meter band repeaters have been active lately. In this video I listen to a 10-meter repeater in Canada, while checking which of my antennas provides the best coverage for that repeater.
    Note that most of the operating techniques I show and teach on my channel can be applied to other transceivers, even other brands of transceivers. Some knobs or buttons might be labeled differently but he function is the same. I have no allegiance to Yaesu. No manufacturer makes a perfect radio. They all have strengths and they all have weaknesses. I like to point those out. Yaesu thinks that I am targeting them, but I am not. In fact, they generally have the fewest weaknesses. It’s just that I want my viewers to know the good, the bad, and the ugly, so they can make informed purchase decisions. I am able to be objective because I have no allegiance to a particular manufacturer. My work is supported by private donations, via www.PATREON.com/N4HNH.
    At the end of this video, you will be able to see a listing of some of the supporters of this channel who made this video possible. There are 4 levels of Patreon membership, including S5 (Associate), S7 (Executive), S9 (VIP), and S9+ (VIP+). S9+ (VIP+) denotes an S9 (VIP) member who voluntarily chooses to give over and above the amount for S9 (VIP) membership. They help me continue to produce videos even though most people do not contribute toward the cost of my mission. Without their support, I cannot bring my viewers uncensored content.

Visibility of premium content is determined by the level of membership you choose. The higher the membership level, the more content you have access to. VIP members are invited to participate in periodic Zoom meetings.
    Most videos are visible to the Patreon team members long before they are released for public viewing. Some videos are never released for public viewing. Yearly S7 (Executive) and S9 (VIP) members have access to the menu optimizations PDFs I’ve written for the FT-891, FT-991A, FTdx5000MP, FTdx101D/MP, FTdx10, and FT-710 AESS. Yearly S7 (Executive) members can receive one menu optimizations PDF while yearly S9 (VIP) members can receive multiple menu optimizations documents, plus my FT8 configuration guide for either the FTdx10 or the FT-710 AESS. Future radios might be added. The documents are copyrighted. They shall not be divulged to anyone else without written permission from Doug McAlexander, callsign N4HNH.

    It's great that ham radio operators have options! Great radios and antennas.

      I agree! I have had a fulfilling 42 years thus far, without breaking the bank. No tower, no beam. But great wire antennas. And finally, as of my 2019 purchase of the FTdx5000MP, a great radio.

    Incredible, I will have to turn the radio on and see. Never heard that in my years of radio 📻. Thanks 👍

      You should! 10m FM is fun. I like the simplex operation as well as the repeater operation.

    I know this was mostly a discussion on antennas. But, I have heard that repeater. I haven't been able to open the squelch on it, but I have heard it. It's fun to be able to hear some of those 10 meter repeaters.

      Video #97 in the FTdx10 collection covers it. And thanks for helping keep the channel up. Lost 6 members this month. Your support is crucial. You are recognized in several videos. Maybe more than several.

    Imagine the signal strength if your antenna was a 5 element Yagi! Or a vertical and a horizontal ant using diversity! Thanks for the video! 73.

      The doublet has gain at this frequency similar to a 3-element Yagi. I just cannot rotate my doublet. But the ZS6BKW (also in the doublet family) had the best lobe to Ontario.

      I’ve never owned a tower or an amateur radio beam. I couldn’t even afford the radios that I repaired when I was a Motorola technician. $1,200 to $2,200 HTs in the 1980s.

    Do you have a list of reccomended frequencies for known repeaters?

      @n4hnhradio  3 місяці тому +1

      Hi Jerry! Not a list. I have covered them in several videos, in the various radio collections. Look for videos with something about HF FM Repeaters in the title. Here is a link to one in the FTdx5000MP playlist: ua-cam.com/video/DtzSRjn7cAc/v-deo.htmlsi=Mamre4XnV5FrSjyE

    Thanks for all your helpful videos. Sorry to comment here but can’t find your email address. I saw your post about the FTDx10 10-pin DIN port. Can the cable you showed split my Tuner port to two devices with RCA female ports. One goes to my LDG tuner and the other to my MFJ-1708B to switch transmit / receive from my LOG to my doublet. 73 W4NDK Nate

    Hi whats the reason for using Ladder line I believe its high impedance so at some point it will have to come down to 50 ohms? thanks

    • @n4hnhradio
      @n4hnhradio  3 місяці тому

      Ladder line exhibits very low loss, versus coax. A 4:1 BalUn can transform the impedance to a low enough value that an antenna matching unit can match it to the radio. I’ve covered this in numerous videos. Watch the videos in my Doublet Antenna System playlist.
