Terminator 3 was NOT the most expensive movie at the time of release, given that Titanic had already come out in 1997.

I think I know the reason why the T-X has the liquid metal over its metal endoskeleton. I think the writer's theory was that the T-1000 from Terminator 2 was slowed down by excessive gunfire, whereas the T-800 from the first film wasn't as easily slowed down by smaller arms fire. I would guess that the screenwriters felt that it could have the easy imitation ability of the T-1000 while being as sturdy as the T-800.

One of my personal bugbears is films having their credits play over something in the film. A lot of films do it, it always feels like a TV show, and it kills immersion. A movie should have a credits sequence with music to build you up into the cinematic experience. What does anyone else think?

Best Terminator film that isn't T1 or T2 is No Country For Old Men, which features no robots, but an almost superhuman scary unstoppable pursuer, and a guy doing his best at every turn to evade him, and staying in grimy motels. It's even set about the same time period as T1. Coens play of tension is A1, great performances, lines, and stunning cinematography.

I loved the bit in Breakdown when Kurt Russell is being pursued and in desperation he drives his Jeep down a steep bank and floats away down rapids, just to escape. It did make me think of the fight or flight reaction in a Terminator film. Obviously the producers too.

I was incredibly dubious abt this film when it was announced because A) T2 ended the damn story and B) Cameron's involvement just drove home this was only getting made for the marquee value.
I still gave it a fair go, and when the painfully unfunny early scene in the strip joint was pinched out, my heart sank like another object of Cameron's desire.

I was hyped to see Terminator 3 but as soon as that scene with the star shaped sunglasses came on I just rolled my eyes as I knew straight away that this was setting the tone for the humor in the film. I kind of liked the idea that the T-X is supposed to be a Terminator designed for taking out other Terminators that the resistance have captured and re-programmed, that made it sound like it was going to be a pretty threatening villain but it felt weak. The part where she enlarges her breasts, the part where she licks the blood, the part where her finger turns into a worm and she's controlling cars... UGGGHHHH! The look of disappointment on my face after viewing it in the cinema was so clear that my Girlfriend at the time's first words to me after it ended were "You didn't like that did you?" ..
You're so right about the tv movie look to it too. Where did that budget go?

According to one of the writers he and his writing partner were not even fans of the first two Terminator movies, he said "The original "Terminator" was lean and mean, a juiced rip-off of "Westworld" and Harlan Ellison, unapologetically B and delightfully paradoxical." and for T2 "I stood in line at the Cinerama Dome for the opening night of "T2: Judgment Day." For all the cool digital morphs, the movie was a sprawling mess, bloated and self-important. On multiple levels, it was a betrayal of the original. I couldn't stand it." Here what he wrote on a blog it also mentions an idea of John Connor being turned into a Terminator, which was toyed around for Terminator Salvation and Terminator Genisys. johnbrancato.blogspot.com/2009/10/how-to-beat-twice-dead-horse.html

Nice run down on T3 btw. I’m looking forward to T6! There’s a film that could never go wrong. It’ll flesh out and fully rubber stamp all the elements about the Terminator universe we never wanted to know featuring no doubt old Arnold as a designer of the T-800. Whose likeness was used as the basis ofoh who cares. It’ll be Timmy toilet and the best possible outcome is that they’ll show Dr Silberman/Silverman as a 140yr old man running away from a Terminator with his tissue paper ankles and we can all have a good giggle.
I’ve never asked for a review/retrospective before, but dear God please do the ‘Arnold does carnival in Rio’ promo video. The very second he does the ‘binocular glasses’ motion is possibly the defining of himself as the ultimate man, and the time I’ve most wet my pants laughing in a puddle of joy and disbelief.

Terminator 3: ROTM is a single movie.
But... Terminator Salvation is a start of a trilogy & Terminator Genisys is a start of a trilogy. And the both are a duology of screwed up trilogy plans.

    • @woody8060
      @woody8060 6 років тому +1

Actually t3 and t4 were originally planned to be the next Duology similar to how t1 and t2 are considered a duology. And were going to be shot back to back. But they couldn't get Arnold to sign up. Tedi sarafian was hired to write t3 ( but turned in an awful script, you can find it online,) and David C. Wilson was going to write the possible 4th installment. This was all before Johnathan mostow was hired and brought in his writers.
But after the mixed reception of t3 , t4 had to be put on hold . And by the time Johnathan Mostow had finished most of his work on "Surrogates" The writers, michael ferris and john brancato had already written the original t4 script toward the end of 2005.
By the time mostow and crew got anything going, the rights were sold in 2007 to Halcyon. And Derek Anderson and Victor kubicek ( a discount version of Mario Kassar and Andrew Vanja) the owners of Halcyon got their hands on the Terminator rights. They wanted to fast-track a sequel. So they took all the work that the last crew had started working on and jumbled it together ,throwing random talent in , hoping for a good product to come out. With a horrible production , what we know as Terminator: Salvation was released. And in post production it was decided that this was to be the start of a new trillogy. (William wisher actually came in and wrote treatments for t5 and t6 in order to "close the loop" he called it.) But that didn't work and Halcyon had to file for bankruptcy and sell the rights again.
And after a game of fucking hot-potato with the rights from 2010-2013 . David Ellison got the rights from his sister Megan Ellison. And they along with their terrible writters room and producers,( ignoring William wisher's ideas and giving him "the boot") made the shit-Sandwich we know as Terminator: Genisys. And before the movie was even done shooting , they announced it would be the start of a trilogy and they would have a conpanion TV show to go along with the films.
So you really can say that this was a trilogy of failed franchise continuations. Let's fucking hope T6 doesn't get fucked up as well , or i will loose all respect for this franchise as a whole. I've tried to forgive and respect T3 & T4 as much as possible. But there was NO EXCUSE for what happened with Genisys! This is the last straw with T6!

T3 is one of the biggest let downs in cinema. John Connor's whiney attitude in the movie is like PTSD flashbacks from episodes 2 and 3 of Star Wars. And the female terminator orgasm when she finds (and tastes?!) John's blood is a complete gaff in understanding the concept of the terminator as a machine.

Terminator 3 is the Ghostbusters 2 to Terminator 2's Ghostbusters.

That's insulting to Ghostbusters 2, try the reboot. GB2 has humor and a horror movie tension, and a legit scary villain. T3 is as soulless as the recent ones.

True, but I meant more in terms of it being a cash-in or victory lap after a hugely successful predecessor, with a thrown-together story and wildly inconsistent tone. GB2 is a much better movie, but it's inspiration comes from the same place.

    Good review guys!
I’ve always hated terminator 3, a retread of what we have already seen, except it sucks.
It’s probably only good for the fun that’s made of it.

Terminator 3 suffered from a director with no particular visual flair, and a script that didn't really endear you to any of the characters. In T2 John Connor is just as much a whiny twat, but during the movie you develop empathy towards him regarding his upbringing. In T3 John is just bitching a lot, and generally gets on your nerves. I remember going to see this diarrhoea (T3) at the cinema, and disliking the hell out of the strip club's piss poor nod to T2's biker bar, and everything that followed was just as average. Terminator 3 : Rise of my blood pressure. All this being said, at least it didn't have the Sgt Candy scene's in the final film.

The only thing going for Terminator 3 is that it is the most violent and profane 12 cert film I've seen.

Also, mates (sorry for another comment), I think u said in "the other place" that you never experienced the T2 3-D attraction at Universal....I went to film school in central Florida and saw it many times. It was phenomenal and I'm sorry it closed.
It is the only time I've seen 70mm projected and it was amazing, and the 3-D was great and made the picture look like you are looking through a window instead of a big screen.
Since the show was inly abt 15-20 minutes, it was quick and action-packed and just spectacular. I almost wish Cameron would do one of the Avatar sequels in 70mm 3-D instead of digital.
Sorry about the rant, but it felt like the only possible 3rd Terminator film........even though it did kinda fumble some of the lore.

Never seen T3. Never will. All ended at T2 for me.
I recommend Schwarzenegger's autobiography. He had an amazing and eventful life. He even calls himself a super acheiver. To be fair he is. He is fucking loaded thanks to body building, movies, real estate and politics. However, the more I read the more I disliked Arnie.

Why is Duncan surprised that a bodybuilder is obsessed with body parts? 🤔

If I remember correctly, the most disturbing thing Arnie says on the commentary is on the subject of throwing the female Terminator around in the bathroom fight scene. He says something like he *got to*, or was *allowed to* beat up a woman, as if it was something he'd always wanted to do but could never get away with. There's just something creepy about the way he makes the point, that's always stuck in my head O.o
