Knowing the literary genius: Prof.MARGOOB - Part 1 ( A spiritually and socially conscious Poet.)

Ghulam Mohammed, popularly known by his pen name Prof. Marghoob Banihali (5 March 1937 - 27 April 2021) born in the prosperous Giri family in Bankoot area of Banihal in J&K’s Ramban district, has authored more than fifty books. In his academic career spanning decades, he was initially posted as Tehsil Education Officer before he joined Kashmiri University’s Persian Department as a professor. Dr Marghoob was the head of University’s Kashmiri Department even as he also served in various other departments in different capacities. His was a multifaceted persona who encompassed the quality of head and heart apart from being an erudite linguist, celebrated researcher and outstanding academic. After his retirement, Dr. Marghoob as a versatile scholar dedicated his life to literature and research work that was greatly recongnised both at the national as well as international level. The depth of imagination, creativeness and lucidity of his writings garnered him laurels and accolades. As a spiritually and socially conscious poet his perspective on life holds the sentiment of Oneness of the creator in high esteem. The resonance of his poems and writings will continue to enthrall the present and the coming generations.
