Hi! My name is Christopher Odd and I’ve been playing video games on the internet for a few years. I really enjoy a variety of games but generally lean towards games with a unique and engaging story (Bioshock, The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of Us etc), strategy/roguelike games (XCOM 2 War of the Chosen, Darkest Dungeon, etc), and RPGs (Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Dragon Age, etc). Of course, I am always looking for great indie games too!

eh the fixed narrative kind of was what put me off the game. don't really care about my stuff when it's scripted to get destroyed.

This game is bloody excellent I Bought it on sat and have already clocked up 20 hrs in it, yeah there are some annoying bugs and some real weird physics, like sometimes the trucks drive upside down 4 wheels in the air in reverse but hey what's not too love about that. good to see you starting a run through of this Odd
If trucks are driving upside down, it's a 10 outta 10.

Oh man, I was hoping you might play this. The game looks great, and the story of the Czech Legion is a fascinating one, that's long overdue for some treatment in media.
I've been eyeing this game for a while. Looks really good. I'm glad you're playing it, and I hope for a full series.
Glad you also picked up the Aliens: Dark Descent feel. I also loved that game and as I was playing this one the entire time I was just thinking how much they had the same feeling. Also loved what I’ve played of this one so far too.

Gameplay has almost nostalgic vibe, the controls, visual. Looks great, looking forward to this
Word of advise: Prioritize upgrading your troop compartments with extra bunks. Max them out cause your gonna pick up a lot of troops early on and you don't want to be forced to leave some behind.

Double Edit: Aight, the game itself sets it straight, lol.
The intro to the video (the historian) is somewhat historically inaccurate. When the Russian civil war began, the Czechoslovak Legion sided with the White forces and fought the bolsheviks. It was only after one of the White generals declared a dictatorship that the Czechoslovaks decided that they weren't really committed to either side and left to Vladivostok. Both Red and White forces committed significant atrocities in the Russian civil war - between 7 and 12 million people died overall.
Man, the opening play with the 4 soldiers reminded me of the mmorpg Granado Espada for some reason - the game where you could control 3 different characters operating as one unit. I really miss that mechanic.

How they handle the end of the game and the betrayal of Admiral Kolchak is going to be... interesting. Obviously the studio making this game considers the Czech Legion the protagonists here and has them as the playable faction, but in history, the Legion turned Kolchak over to the Red Army as a bargaining chip for safe passage to Vladivostok to get on the ships that would carry them home. This is widely considered to have essentially de facto ended the Russian Civil War by killing off the leader of the Whites as well as handing over the last of the gold reserves in the Whites' hands to the Red Army.
The developers made up a fictional story that doesn't mention Kolchak or any other real things in order to portray the Czechs better than they were in the real life - the filthy communist collaborators.
I was burned out on RTS games long ago (last one I ever played was Tiberian Sun) and this one doesn’t strongly change my mind about diving back into the genre. However, I do like that it includes historical content not portrayed in most media. At the very least, the setting has made me curious enough to read up on the Czechoslovak Legion. Seems like their involvement in World War I and the Russian civil war was based on a calculated gamble- winning the support of the Entente powers for an independent homeland- when they otherwise could have stayed neutral. Was the outcome worth their sacrifice?

Thanks for the content. Really glad for no face cam, I find it ruins any kind of immersion. Also naming characters from your sub is nice for them, but names like “fister” “ddrrrs” and such really take away from games as well.
You might be new here but I almost never use face cam and submitted names are always vetted. I wouldn’t allow or use names like that 😂

I wonder if historical events also started west of Moscow. Because if you think about it - returning to Czechoslovakia through Vladivostok is thousands of kilometers and an entire continent literally in opposite direction. I wonder how bad the situation at the front was not to attempt to use Baltic/Black sea ports or even land routes.

Really don’t love how they make the English accents British. At least make them sound vaguely Slavic. HBO did the same thing with Chernobyl and it hugely lowered the immersion there, too
