Very detailed explanation! Well documented as well. Is Gyroscope really that intuitive? I've had been using inverted Y achse and been switching back to "normal" achse. Also been enjoying Battlefield 1 quite a bit. It runs insanely good on the Deck with Cryo 2.0, Proton GE & "DXVK_asnyc=1 %commandline%". I'm not exactly sure what dxvk async does but for whatever reason it increases fps tremendously in most games.
Gyro imo is the answer to aim assist. On Apex Legends Mobile it was essential for having fast and accurate aim, and almost everybody used it. I really wish Respawn would implement gyro natively om PC, PS5 and Switch. (Microsoft needs to get with the program and update their Xbox controller with a hardware gyroscope) My steam input method works well, but it’s still a bit of a DIY hack. It’s not as consistent and accurate compared to games that have native gyro controls implemented engine-side (CoD MW2/WZ2 has really great native gyro support on PC and PS5) Regarding DXVK. As I understand it that launch option tells proton to keep compiling shaders in the background as you play, instead of compiling each shader only when it’s needed during gameplay (that’s what often causes stutter in some games.) I’m not sure if -or how much Apex Legends benefits from this launch option, since it comes with community pre-compiled shaders on SteamOS that are automatically updated before launching the game each time new shaders are required.
@@zerocore_Seems like that gyro may be officially the future some time? In a sense, that's what the wii u and past generations were stoked for in gaming in general, to move in an "immersive way". I suppose arcades from the 90s and whatnot too had gyroscope technologies in those guns at the machines and the tilt bikes. Perhaps with the surge of handhelds now, gyro may become an essential option in the game settings the same way as inverted controls are for gamepads. I still don'√ quite understand how to utilize gyro though. Like, i can't decide how to use them, do i look around with the the sticks or with the gyro and all that jazz.
The Wii actually didn’t have gyro controls out of the box. It’s similar in that you use movement to interact with the game, but it uses infrared to determine the position of the Wii remote (I believe most arcade shooters did something similar). That meant that without the sensor bar in front of the TV the Wii mote can’t do motion controls, and they only work as long as the sensor bar can see the controller. The Wii seems to have created a lot of stigma around gyro, as well as Sony’s poor software implementation and support for most their own gyro supported games since the PS3 days. (Somewhat ironically Nintendo also has one of the best implementations of gyro in the biz with Splatoon on the Switch) Because of this a lot of people think it’s a gimmick that requires you to fling your arms around the whole time. It’s a real shame, be because it could really solve the AA debate. It’s also clear that veteran controller players really don’t like a big change like gyro. They will defend AA to the death I think 😂
@@VinnyUnion regarding your issue getting used to gyro. In my experience the best way to use gyro if you’re experienced with thumb sticks is to have the gyro always on, but at a very low sensitivity. That way you play the way you’re used to, but you now also have the gyro to help you make those small adjustments that are almost impossible on joystick, by faintly turning you controller left or right during shootouts. (You should see the gyro for turning like a steering wheel) I started with gyro like this in CS:GO. I still did all the looking around and aiming with RS, but since the game has no AA the gyro was perfect for making those small adjustments to hit headshots. Over time I slowly started increasing my gyro sensitivity, simply because I became better and better with it. Nowadays RS has more of a support role when it comes to my aiming. I use the gyro for doing almost all aiming, but that doesn’t necessarily have to be a goal of yours. Just like mouse and keyboard, everyone has their own preferences. JibbSmart, the guy who arguably popularised gyro on PC, has a really active discord sever with a very friendly community. Might be a good place to start. :)

I play on ps5 but I want to buy a steam deck just bc I want to have a hand held for when I don’t feel like playing on the ps5. Do you think the deck is worth it for just apex???

I opted for gyro as joystick because of Apex’s extreme visual clutter. on such a small screen with limited performance you really need that aim assist. if you take the Finals for example, visibility is so much better that it’s much nicer to play with gyro-to-mouse. Rule of thumb with the new gyro-to-mouse (BETA) feature is to find the sensitivity value that makes 1 turn IRL match 1 turn in-game. Then multiply to your preference.
