First Bengali i got to know about was Subhash chandra bose. I have different prospective of Bengali's. When time will come people will see. Large number Revolutionaries were from Bengal. This is what too much dose of western education does.

Bengal contributed more revolutionaries for freedom struggle than any other state. In fact Bengal and Punjab were the two states which had organized groups of revolutionaries. Sachin sanyal, Bagha jatin, Khudiram bose, Surya sen, Prafulla chaki, Jatindra nath das, Barindra ghosh and many more were from Bengal only. Two very famous organizations Anushilan and Jugantar were active in Bengal Only.

The first techno park was planned to be built in Kolkata because it was the second most developed city and human resources there were skillful as well as available in plenty, but CPM prevented it to be made by organizing mass protests under the notion that one computer can do the job of 10 personnel and thus we'll be unemployed. Then Mamata ensured Exodus of Tata. There are numerous other policies which destroyed Bengal, but these were the main reasons. The Biharis aren't to be blamed in the downfall of Bengal.

The average stereotype ridicules punjabi intellect mercilessly when in fact, in spite of being perpetually busy in wars and islamic imposition, that curtailed their movement in performing arts and music, we managed to create a rich literature with the most intricate ideas. We are passionate artists, thinkers, scientists and intellectuals.
But, we are cool with being made fun of because it is okay to be made of. One needs tremendous intelligence and sense of security to have this kind of sense of humour.

I am Bengali myself. I accept that we are the most fearful and laziest people in India. And yes we have opinion on everything which is not bad. Rather I would say it is a good thing. We need to learn from from Punjabi (for warrior quality) and try to be gradually more courageous. Along with that they should try to be more broadminded/kinder/loving person.

Just go to cellular jail and check out the list of people who died fighting British. 85% of that list is filled with names you have never even heard of and all of them are bengalis.
@Abhi Kumar we had pal, sen and other dynasty. You just don't know enough history. And for mughal and brits they enslaved whole India, your place was not out of the list. And for 'jai shree ram', well it is the slogan of north Indian people. We are Shakti pujari, our slogan is 'jai ma durga, jai ma kali, jai ma tara'. And we shout them openly with loud voice in every Durga puja. Apart from that we usually perfer to say 'Namaskar' when we meet people.
@Abhi Kumar we are not also denying north-western people's contribution. In the end all of us are Indian. But there is a stereotype that bengalis are lazy and coward. It is a misconception. Yes, we are usually peaceful and not loud. What else can you expect from a community who prefer education over everything!!! Study can give you mental strenght, not physical. But one thing people don't know about us, we are passionate and stubborn people, if we believe in something we will do it at any cost or die trying. This mental strength makes us anything but coward.

I feel pity for this particular pal jester..... a standup comedian should have a vivid knowledge of history and facts before making people laugh, poor guy might have no idea about this. He must have been highly influenced by amit Tandon shows ..... but sadly very much unlike Amit. This particular jester is so so poor trying to perform a serious art.... all his jokes fall flat and I found him laughing most at himself.He must be trying to please his punjabi boss somewhere in the audience so that he gets a reasonable appraisal by the year end.

The largest army that the British East India raised before the Sepoy mutiny came from the Eastern region. The army was later disbanded as the sepoy mutiny was believed to have started because of disaffection amongst the sepoys and sowars of the Army of Bengal. In independent India, the Central government was really not interested in raising the Bengali regiment to score political points in spite of several requests that came from the State. Also, do not forgot the Naxal Badi andolan in the 1970s where best of the intelligentsia class joined the movement to fight for the landless, to work in factories so that they could organise the workers. Later on most of these bright students were either hunted down and shot like an animal or allowed to rot in jails.
